- Cameron Garrity is a Graphic Designer and Puppeteer who recently graduated from Daemen College. Garrity has studied alongside the country's most influential contemporary puppeteers at the National Puppetry Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. He also specializes in graphic design for puppet festivals and events, including Buffalo's own Geppetto Festival: A Day of Puppetry, an annual event at Daemen College, which Garrity created.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
When I was a kid, like early teens maybe, I so wanted to make my own Muppet style puppet. I found them a bit more difficult to construct than I originally thought as you'd imagine. But what I did manage to piece together was a totally different kind of difficulty, bringing it to life and giving it a personality. But it didn't take me long at all to get it down once I found my family responding to it rather than to me. Even though I was the one talking and moving it's mouth and head with my hand. And ever since then, I've had a lasting love and respect for the art of puppetry. This video so brought me back to that time in my life again. Hadn't thought about that in years. So glad this popped up in my feed. :D
My comedy career was built on muppets & stand up. And funny enough puppets help me convey feelings on stage that are otherwise difficult.
Awesome work dude! I have loved the muppets ever since I was a child. I too had a Big Bird doll or stuff toy (as I like to call it) but unfortunate my dad threw it away only cause it was falling apart but my mom wishes so much that she would have kept him only to have given him to me years later but I did find one years later on Ebay but it isn't the same knowing it wasn't mine.
