Definitely a yes on the journals video! My new thing is asking myself before eating/drinking anything is “will this help my body heal or hurt?”. So far this is helping my decision making. @@IsidoraSage I have to admit it’s helping me. I haven’t had any type of drink other than water and green/chamomile tea since thanksgiving. Hurt or heal is my new mantra. 🤗
Guess what? I spent Veganuary on a whole food plant based diet (Even cheated with the occasional chips or vegan cookie) and my LDL cholesterol dropped 89 POINTS!!!! In one month!!!! I am whole food plant based for life❤

As for the meal prep, I personally like the idea of associating some meals to a particular day. For example: Monday pasta , Tuesday some kind of burger, Wednesday a casserole, Thursdays vegetables in the oven, Friday a chili, Saturday pizza, Sunday vegan meat loaf with potatoes ....

She also mentioned the same can be done for breakfast (Mondays always overnight oats for example, Tuesdays pancakes etc.) and for dinner.

When my husband I first went vegan, we ate 1 starch and 2 types of vegetables, some leftover until eaten up. Our kids did not eat vegan then. Now the whole family eats vegan and I make more whole meal type vegan dishes.

Angie B from Peoria, IL here. My celebrations from last year is ALL my bloodwork is NORMAL! My triglycerides were high and the doctor wanted me on a statin. I took it for a while, but didn’t like the way it made me feel. I stopped taking it two months ago and had my triglycerides measured yesterday. NORMAL!!! All I did was concentrate on my diet. While I have not been 100% animal free, I have really concentrated on eating very little and most of what I eat is from a plant. This year’s goal is to become 100% plant based once and for all.

One habit I want to get back to is eating at least 30 different plants a week. Our health begins in our gut and feeding all the good buggies is the start. I learned of this from a PCRM interview with Dr. Robynne Chutkan. It sounds daunting and in the beginning it takes time shopping and chopping but like any good habit once you get going eventually you're on autopilot.
I love spreadsheets so I made one with all the plants that are available to me. I sorted them by type and color to better 'eat a rainbow'. The goal is to cross off the whole sheet in a month. I've gotten pretty close.
Sometimes people think it's not possible but it's pretty easy. A 6 grain porridge with flax. berries, walnuts and soy milk is 10. Mixed green salad with tomatoes, cukes, red onion, apple, sweet peppers and chickpeas. You're at 20 and it's lunch on the first day. Have a veg stir fry over brown rice, eat popcorn and an orange as snacks and you're pretty much there. You get the idea. Look at each meal and see what you can add. Soups, stews, chili, curries and casseroles are all opportunities to veg up your meals.
That might not be a bad idea for a video ;)
I'll agree that the WFPB community is a great source of information and support. We're a welcoming and passionate bunch. I've learned a lot and try to pass it on when I can. Which results in long comments, sorry. You're a gracious host. Thanks for indulging my novellas.

This makes so much sense. I've noticed that when I eat crappy food then I have no energy or motivation to do anything, and I feel depressed. But when I eat and drink vegetables, fruits, nuts and whole grains, I have way more energy and feel happier too.
Right? Isn't it amazing how we can just feel that energy shift?

I have a gym setup in my living room I have a bunch of weights and bands. I had a baby in February and stopped working out. I’m planning on getting back to it because I love weight lifting. I have been a vegetarian for years, I was vegan for a year a long time ago, but the grocery store had very limited options and my partner was a meat eater. I have recently switched to vegan and I’m so happy

Hi Jeremy. I finally made your chocolate tart but I added orange zest. I made them into tartlets. My guests went totally nuts for them ! I served them with whipped aquafaba. I made a double recipe of the chocolate so I froze the rest into small pucks to be munched on as snacks !
So for the habits, I eat pretty clean and I meal prep a lot. I try to get 10 000 steps in every day with a long walk if necessary.
About hydration, if you eat a lot of raw and fruits and vegetables, you don't need to drink as much water, which is my case.
Sleep: I cannot sleep more than 6 hours... I wake up energized and ready to start my day. I also cannot fall asleep in silence so I listen to podcasts with a time limit. I usually fall asleep before the end. I guess I could try to sleep more. Maybe my memory would improve. I would add one habit for me: be more positive. I am very concerned about the state of the environment because of animal agriculture and it gnaws at me. So I want to focus more on positive things this year. Thanks for your video. Great video, thank you. My goals this year are to get back in to the weight losing mode. I have already lost quite a bit, but I still need to work on the last bit to help out a bad knee. I am also working on chopping my high GI foods and simple carbs. My body tends to hop on the glucose roller coaster a lot and it feels pretty crummy going up and down so I will work on that. Your meal recipes are just the inspiration I need. Thanks and here is to a good year!

Hola~Thank You for sharing your “game plan!” I plan on rewatching with a journal in hand in hopes of turning myself around (lost control and started over indulging early Nov) and I’m having trouble getting back on track (still (pb at least). Definitely working on goal setting-I made myself a weight loss vision board with my goals listed and pictures and affirmations all around my goal statements. Would love to learn more about how you use your bullet journal. To support my goals on weight loss really focusing on nutrition, exercise and staying in a positive mindset. I really need the latter to catch myself and be mindful of emotional eating.

I will be focusing on two things until they become habit: foregoing the sugar-laden sweets! and beginning to do meal planning (which I've already begun this week). I also plan to get back on my bicycle -- not for any high powered workout but purely to keep moving and because I used to love it so much.

Happy 2024!! Thanks for the shoutout!! My favourite exercises are rebounding and resistance bands. We bought an Aqua Tru countertop RO system in October and love it!! Bought it on Amaz on black Friday, was a good deal. A tip for absorbing the water you are drinking is to take a crystal of Celtic salt with each glass and don't drink it all at once...helps with not having to run to the bathroom all the time. A 'crystal' of salt...not a tsp. or anything crazy. The body needs some sodium to help with all the chemical processes, and to help your body absorb the water and not just flush it out. Awesome episode as usual, thanks!!

Love this video-appreciate how encouraging you are! I am new to plant based (since Jan); so have gotten over the "how do I eat?" Hurdle but am now looking closer at the "how do use this tool to help assist gentle weight loss?". I don't want to push too hard and it end up not sticking, but after losing a lot of weight quickly in the begining things have plateaued a bit recently. Wow, doing a video with your first cup of coffee, that is impressive 😂 I look like something peeled off a dumpster until cup 3 which is when I switch to Dandy Blend but I digress....
I think a membership is great! Content creators need to be compensated and rather that than a ton of advertising. I wish YT didn't take such a cut because just honestly signing up at Paetreon sounds like just enough friction to keep me from doing it. Maybe I would just tip jar more often.
And 2024 goals! Omg, I need to get back on plan. This is three years for me, I lost all the weight but this is the first year I didn't pump the breaks throughout the holiday season. Before the holidays we moved, and the whole five months combined totalled up to 10 pounds😢 So, I have to go back to very few overt fats island (dreadful place but necessary) and take the pounds back off and then my big goal is consistency re: walking and weights. Very patchy with these. So, feel free to focus on some weight loss stuff, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would appreciate it in January. I actually had gotten confident with my maintenance but pride cometh before the fall or something like that?😂

Hi! New subscriber from the UK here. I stumbled across you yesterday as am just beginning to read "How not to die" and next up is "Eat to live". I was veggie for around 30 years then turned vegan in 2018. I eat too many processed faux sausages etc and not enough greens so this is the year for it all to change and eat more WFPB (though I do have "food" in the freezer etc that I need to use up so it will be gradual). I'm constantly exhausted, have insomnia and am around 3 stone overweight. I would love to hear more about bullet journals as have always been curious about these. I would also love a 7 day plan of simple quick and frugal WFPB meals as feeling a little overwhelmed and unsure quite where to start. Just looked at your website - love it and have subbed to that too for emails. Was interesting to hear you say about carbonated water and dental issues. I would love to drink more fluids. Due to a diagnosis of congestive heart failure, I can have a maximum of 8 cups of fluid a day. I now eat snacks because I am thirsty. Am working at getting the snacking under control. Stacey from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

I'm on board with mindful eating! After each bite, I try to put the cutlery down and concentrate on chewing thoroughly.
