    Hi Jeremy, just came across your channel yesterday & I love you and your family, especially for keeping it so real. Your family’s reactions remind of my own sometimes. I got a suggestion for an awesome cookbook for you to review and feed your family for a week. My kids are not fully vegan and absolutely love the recipes in this book.
    “Practically Vegan” by Nisha Melvani. She uses minimal oil but can easily be substituted with water. I’m in Mississauga btw👋🏻

      Greetings neighbour!!! Adding this book to the list! My kids aren't fully vegan either - they're pescatarian for the most part, but all our meals are vegan - unless they make their own (sometimes they'll add cheese to what I make)
      Thanks for the kind words!!

    A couple of tips for the pudding. 1. To keep the skin from forming put a layer of plastic wrap loosely but directly on the top of the pudding. Don’t put in the fridge until it has cooled down. That helps it not have the layer of condensation on top. 2. When using cornstarch or arrowroot to thicken it needs to be cooked for about 10 min to completely activate the cornstarch.

    First time watching your channel and really enjoying it. We've been a long time fan of Kiki and I get it when you talk about it being simple and Kiki is all about the simple but also these are recipes that helped her loose 70 pounds and keeping it off for years. I don't mind the water in the pancakes instead of milk because it's more weight loss friendly, that kind of thing. I will be checking out your recipes too !

    • @pbwithjeremy

      Appreciate all of this - and you're right about why she makes certain choices. I just know that as someone who lost 170 pounds eating this way, there's way to add flavour without adding calories. the 30 calories per cup of non-dairy milk is nothing in the grand scheme, especially when it's split up over several servings. It's the difference of 5-10 calories per person, etc... Appreciate this feedback!

    I haven't tried the pudding recipe yet, but now I need to try it to see how mine turns out. I've been following Kiki for a long time now.... You didn't mention that She always adds a little box on the recipes that says 'Make sure to pair with a vegetable or fruit side for your 50/50 plate. Don't forget to eat your veggies first!'.... ALSO, the southwest ranch recipe is 20 servings. Not 2.

    The lack of vegetables in the recipes is understandable for the way she eats… she makes a 50/50 plate with half of the starchy recipe, and half fresh veg of her choice. So you might have an enchilada, and lots of steamed broccoli… I love many of her recipes! They’re simple, easy, and tasty!

    Thanks Jeremy for another fun video. Love your family, they’re so honest. Your review basically agrees with reviews I’ve read about this book. It’s lovely but very basic for those of us that have been following this lifestyle for awhile. I enjoy Kiki’s videos, they’re beautifully done. She shares about her family, their life on their homestead, maintaining her weight loss, inner beauty, etc. I haven’t tried many of her recipes. I would enjoy seeing what your family thinks about some of the recipes in Dreena’s Kind Kitchen, by Dreena Burton. Have a great weekend!

    I love Kiki's recipes! She has a TON on her website if you're wanting to try some out before buying the book. I have the book on my wishlist for now.
    RE: Oat flour pancakes... yeah that's just how they are. I am wheat free (migraine trigger) so I don't have the option to use wheat and sub with oat flour a lot. It's nice because it's easy and cheap (just blend up some oats) but it's VERY dense and sits like a rock. I find flours with corn in them are tastier but significantly more expensive. Anything labeled "gluten free" is expensive just because of the label, it's so annoying! Like we get a brown rice pasta and it's almost 4x more expensive than whole wheat pasta. WTF?
    RE: Her cheese sauce, I actually use only potatoes in mine. I like carrots, but I find that in the cheese sauce it makes it too... earthy? I also add more seasoning than she does but I think I make a larger bath over all. I also find a TBSP of hemp seeds is a good replacement for the cashews if you're trying to lower the fat/calories for weight loss.

    • @pbwithjeremy
      @pbwithjeremy  11 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for all this - try the gluten-free pancake mix I posted of my own in the description below - it might be the ticket for you!
      Thanks for all your thoughts on this! Luckily where we live the brown rice pasta isn't too bad price wise.

    Omg I looove your channel! Just came by it today and now I'm gonna use the rest of my day to watch every video! By the way, I love Kikis book, and use it a lot. But I agree that some of the measures seems wrong. I make the southwest ranch and the regular ranch ALL the time and I have to use half the amount of milk, or else it's runny soup. So I have subscribed to your channel! I love the real life of it. :) I will say that it seems your family is used to more "everyday" food flavors that you find on cooking shows, television and real life. I think there is a whole population of plant-based eaters (like Kiki) that focus more on health and therefore more simple tasting, lower fat foods taste much better. Once you change your taste buds to less salt, less sugar, no oil, the "hyper-palatable" foods are not so good anymore. (I can eat chickpea cookies and LOVE them, my husband cannot.) Thanks for all you content and for caring about the delicate condition of our planet. We need more families like yours!!

    • @pbwithjeremy
      @pbwithjeremy  Год назад +1

      Thanks for subscribing and watching! My wife and I generally eat WFPB - which is not at all in line with "everyday" eating from most people in the world for sure. We don't use oil, use minimal salt and when it comes to sugars we use either maple syrup or dates - and we usually reduce whatever the recipe calls for by half. I firmly believe that healthy fats are part of a balanced diets, so nut butters, coconut milk, avocado, etc... are used in healthy portions. I lost 170 pounds eating this way, so it's achievable for weight loss to eat WFPB without skimping on flavour and still be very very healthy.
      Hope I'm not coming off as defending myself - just wanted to let you know how we are.

      He put a twist on the recipes and didn't follow them exactly. I feel it's not a good review since Kiki's book is to help with weight loss. And he's telling people to add almond butter for "more fat".

    • @pbwithjeremy
      @pbwithjeremy  Год назад +2

      To clarify - I believe I mentioned why she had the recipe as she did - for people who were looking for weightloss, and was merely suggesting that if that wasn't someone's goal and they wanted to add more flavour, that was a way to do it.
      That said - I appreciate the criticism - I believe that recipes for books to be made by home cooks aren't to be written in stone - they get modified by the person making it, but the idea stays in tact. If that's not your thing then I understand. Appreciate you checking out the video either way!

    I like Kiki's recipe book. I call her recipes "idea recipes" for learning how to put your favorite meal together, yet keeping it weight-loss friendly. The ranch dressing really thickens up in the fridge. So, if you make it the day before you intend to eat it, it's the perfect consistency. I love enchiladas, but I hate enchilada sauce, whether it's store-bought or homemade. It's too" earthy and dirty" tasting for hubby and me. That's the best way to describe it. We make our own sauce that is much lighter in taste. And we double the corn tortillas, using a thicker brand. We feel like the tortillas disintegrate and get lost during the cook time. So we like the thick corn tortillas - they're called "street style." (Plus I'm a lazy cook, and she admittedly says she hates to cook, so I feel like she addresses that in the way she prepares her meals.)

    • @pbwithjeremy
      @pbwithjeremy  Год назад +1

      Love this! And yes, totally get the idea of a lazy person cookbook. I think you've described the way to use this book perfectly - and thanks for the insight into your own kitchen habits! @@sarahkeanewellness That's awesome! (and fair) - hot tip for the little ones - let the sausages mingle with the maple syrup from the pancakes a little - adds to the flavour for them (and you!) - thanks for letting me know!!!

    You should make a video of how you remedy fails. Like what did you do with the cookies? Maybe you could crumble it up, add maple syrup and then sprinkle it on some other dessert thing. So basically, what happens to to the food? I'm pretty sure you're not throwing it out, right?

    Maybe you could do a show about east simple recipes with not a lot of ingredients for those of us who work long hours and don’t have much time or energy left to cook. Thanks!

    I have a book suggestion! Thug Kitchen - it is vegan and it’s actually fun to read the instructions because of the language and i think you’ll get a kick out of it.

      I LOVE that series - I own them all. They've rebranded as Bad Manners - but I'll get to one of these books for sure. Should I do the original or the newest? (they have another one coming this fall)
