I've had a 3d printed stubby for exactly a year now. It is as stout as can be, has no play whatsoever, is much shorter (which is the point) w/o the need for a double piece / extension, which, IMHO, makes the OG version too long. I get, in order to maximize the upfront investment, that additional accessories may need to come along. I personally have no use for additional stubby accessories (I can go OEM for those), so I want my car drying stubby to serve one purpose and serve it well.
Waiting on my OG one and would prefer shorter as well not extra accessories. Didn’t realise until I saw this. Still be good having a shorter one so will see how it goes or if I need to modify the modified one ☝️
Did you download a STL file or purchase it somewhere?
And when you purchase something, I shouldn't have to add tape to make it work better.
@@EveryOtherDayWoodWor I actually just printed a stubby nozzle for myself over the weekend. Haven’t actually tried it to dry a car yet but initial impressions look pretty nice. Cost me a whole $3.50 in filament.
Double piece is silly considering the cost(material/production/shipping) is virtually the same whether you make it as one piece or break it up into two.
Say you want three different versions. Why have 4 pieces(1base+3acc) when you can just have 3 individual units like the original STUBBY
I think the issue is that your whole brand is the best of the best products. So when there's a perceived sloppy fit, that's not what people expect from Obsessed Garage.
Yep. Most of the complainers are just looking for me to fail. They weren’t buying anything anyway.
@@ObsessedGarage Well I am a good customer and I have not been real happy with the Presol sprayers, even the modified tip version.
@@ObsessedGarage excuses excuses. but only when it comes to your product is poor quality acceptable.
OG business model:
1) Get the market excited about a product before final variant is ready
2) Have said market pay a premium to receive a pre-production equivalent model
3) Tell market it wasn’t ready, offer no concession to customer due to your design flaw
4) Release v2, v3, etc and convince same customer to purchase multiple variants to fund your development costs
5) Make a video saying you don’t care about your customer
6) Repeat
Cue pressol bottles, stubby, microfiber towels, etc
If you’re overly cynical, you can certainly cherry pick that narrative. In between those two launches, OG released well over 500 products including detailing, audio, garage, and pressure washing solutions. OG is for people who are interested in the pursuit and discovery. If you’re interested in the final product, OG has multiple imitators who stock their stores with copies of the final product, which takes iterations of trial and error. So those sites may be a better place for you
Nailed it. The only part you are missing is that I’m the first customer of my own company, so if we lose, I lose too.
@@ObsessedGarage forget this guy. I appreciate what you do. Thanks OG Team
Thanks for the video, OG Team! I went a slightly different route than what was suggested in the video and found that I can reduce the play and still retain ease of removal. I put Tesa tape on the inside of the stubby, but only on the half opposite the latch. It helps retain the ability to use Ego’s attachments for other tasks and you don’t have to see tape on your beloved Ego blower. Hope this helps everyone! Thanks for all the hard work, OG Team!
I think it's awesome that you guys went out and had these made to satisfy what I would assume is the largest demographic of people buying frickin battery leaf blowers at this point. I also cannot believe EGO has not acknowledged this use of their product and embraced making their own accessories or even designing/releasing a unit specifically for people who primarily use it for drying their car.
I agree.
HEY, EGO!!!! Get with the program! We use your LEAF blower for other jobs so, we need accessories for those jobs!
If you have to rationalize or defend your design, while criticizing competitors, you're doing it wrong.
Take a step back and look at it from a customer perspective.
Don't be defensive of your product, it was a product of your opinion, so respect the customer's opinion.
I’m not defending anything. I’m just showing you the facts. I am the first customer of all things I sell.
@@ObsessedGarage you are defending your product.
So here is my .02. I have the Ego 530, and the stock tube is super tight, and the stubby is only very slightly loose, but in no way excessive. There is no way it will come loose and actually it is pretty good for being able to remove. No complaints.
2 piece tube was a poor design choice. Possible future attachments not valid from consumer perspective. Just my opinion.
The 650 works perfectly fine without any attachment at all. I use it mostly without the tube.
That's what i was thinking, if you want short just use it without a tube lol.
Id like a stubby to focus to be a short as possible tho
The fact that this needed a 20 minute video is hilarious.
Glad to have the product in hand and did notice a bit of a wiggle on the 765, but have used it multiple times since it was dropped off Saturday without modifying anything and it's doing great and make it much easier to dry than a stock tube. Does great blowing the driveway off too. Thanks for making these happen!
Hey Matt, perfectly acceptable that the stubby fits a little loose to accommodate the variants in the different blowers. My hope is that Milwaukee comes out with a new more powerful blower as they’ve really stepped up with their first lawnmower that thing is awesome but for now the ego is definitely the way to go have a great one as always.
I’m excited to see what Milwaukee comes out with
I think the biggest problem was not so much the wiggle, but the wiggle after 6 month (or however long) wait for them. And hearing you hype them up frequently mixed with the anxiousness of finally getting it and the result is it maybe not being 100% OG spec, but rather 98%.
Keep in mind. I believe this was OG’s first production part. I doubt they have a QA department or have an established PPAP. I agree the long wait pared with the hype was a bad combo but live and learn. I haven’t had any issues with mine and I’ve used it a few times.
Fell down a rabbit hole and ended up here. The design of this does not need to be two piece at all. You have 3 clips when all you need is one, it's overcomplicated. I know you have said it's to allow for future attachments but there is no reason why they cant be one piece too and clip on/off at the stock tube right? It would be cheaper to produce (less parts), more stable and less likely to cause damage. The reason I'm put off it is because I'm clumsy and can see those clips doing more damage to the paint should i clip it accidentally than just a totally smooth tube would.
I think they should O-ring it and get away from the clicky design and go for a slip twist desgin instead
Thanks for addressing this issue. I was one of those that sent an email. My only concerns were, was it going to fly off because it was so loose and did I get a defective one because it was so loose. Now that you have explained the reason for it being loose and it will not fly off, I have no problem with keeping it! I will most likely wait for version 2 to get another one along with another blower so I don't have to keep switching out the tube because I also use it blow leaves etc. Thanks again for another GREAT product!
Ego gutter kit includes a “stubby” and the blower band fits perfectly. One solution.
@RICARDO It's only $50
@RICARDO The entire kit is still cheaper than Obsessed Garage’s stubby and is one piece and doesn’t have the wiggle issues….
Do you have a picture of it with the blower band on it?
@@aubert25 are you sure it doesn't wobble? The original nozzle that came with the Ego wobbles. A lot.
The gutter kit is weird. I don’t want that.
There may be a bit of disconnect of the perception of OG. Some see a simple, they sell the best and expect the best (so they complain when the nozzle wiggles). Others that have been following for a while know that this is sort of providing the best available solution and a lot of times OG will get the customer 90% there but there's still a bit left for the consumer to figure out. I'm not sure how the disconnect gets resolved (or if it even matters that much) because on one hand you want to be known for providing the highest quality and best solutions, but on the other hand, you are pioneering some of these things and you have to rely on some of the consumer's common sense to make it work for them specifically. If it were me in this case, I would have just put some tape around and made it fit better without a second thought hah
Well said
You are in the majority here. It just so happens the minority of people tend to be the most vocal. Then the non buyer piggy backs onto them.
il be experimenting with mine later this week. manufacturing tolerances are a constant battle with anything today but i am sure a solution will be simple and I have already come up with two il show in a video soon
just leave the stubby tube off, it doesn't add that much in the first place. The end of the stubby attachment needs to be a smaller diameter. So just leave the stubby off and just create like a few direct connecting end pieces, the stubby just adds a piece which we can do without. It's like an converter we don't need, its adding an extra piece to an already bulky blower which serves no function cos if you add the final piece directly to it, your done. If you know what i mean.
I love how Matt is like oh this is first generation... but if he were to buy something else and it have this fit he would call it garbage even if it were 1st gen.
Why needing the attachment? Why not running the blower bare without any attachment?
Is it viable to put the tap on the ID of the stubby? That way both the Stubby and the stock tube can still be used.
Not a bad idea
WWMD...What Would Mike Do? He would have drove a self tapping screw in the union and carried on with his day.
I got mine few days ago, I wanted this thing for a while, little disappointed with fitting especially coming from someone with reputation for perfection like OG
Not going to send or ask for refund but some kinda discount on Verizon 2 would be nice for customers who bought Version 1 and having issues
Matt went out an created a bunch of other Matt's. Now everything is jank!! 🤣
This! The entire channel is about obtaining perfection so anything less will be criticized. I’m not saying it’s right but that’s the way it is. Don’t take it personal. It’s impossible to please most people.
@@blraider9724 100%! But everything we do is a great learning lesson and I'm sure Matt and team will take the feedback and apply it to future products. Small bump in the road.
If its good for Matt I bought it!!
I don’t think it needs a stronger spring. I just think that the clip needs to actually engage with the lip properly. I would look at resisting the clip itself and how it hooks on the lip on the blower.
So ego can’t even make the tolerances perfect in their production facility, but obsessed garage is supposed to?
Good grief guys, they made the best version of a product that barely existed with the intention of making it backwards compatible (and actually even forward compatible with a blower that was released during production…) and were crying over a little wiggle when the factory nozzle wiggles too..
I don’t know what to say.
Production # 1 or not, that shouldn't be an excuse for poor fitment and quality when paying ~ $75 for a blower attachment.
Can't you put on a large o-ring closer to the blower itself. Seems like a easy solution for it to be compatible through the different generations. Even including different thickness in o-ring shouldn't raise up cost.
problem is if you use the EGO everyday for other stuff putting the tape on will probably cause the OEM tube not to fit on. Perhaps on the site you should add which EGO have the most / least wobble that way people will know what to expect and if you add the tape if the OEM tube will fit on- ie I have a 530 from what you said No click when goes on to let me know it is engaged so if lots of wobble I might be concerned it will come off and hit the car
I think this is the first production part that OG has dealt with. Major production builds like this are very tricky, especially with plastic parts. Always get at least a few samples for testing. After the PPAP is approved then you can run the full production. The samples will most likely be way more expensive than the production quantities but it’s worth the investment to complete a full PPAP.
On a side note, I love mine and haven’t had any issues with it after a few washes.
People are goofy. The OEM tube wobbles like hell too.
Admittedly I bought a 3D printed one off Etsy. Guess what wobbly as hell.
My ego can't take having a stubby
This might be a stupid question but what is wrong with using no attachment to dry the car? I don’t see what’s wrong with drying the cars without any nozzle attached…
It’s doesn’t work super well without the air guided through a nozzle.
Maybe make a shim insert sell it a bit larger and stack the insert for tolerance tightness.
People will complain about anything 🙄 looks fine to me.
Everytime I touch the stubby it grows is this a stubby problem or a problem with my ego just curious…
Everyone expects perfection. It doesn’t exist in anything.
Matt, looks way better to me versus cutting up and epoxying the original tube. I would prefer a one-piece shorter specific design tube, but the two piece is nice if the accessories are better than what Ego has to offer. Looks to be some of the sloppiness is just due to the original Ego design of the outlet pipe. I mean it's not like it's machined billet aluminum you're dealing with flexible plastic to start.
Surprised to fing these blowers in my local Ace Hardware Store. Maybe never noticed until I saw you guys started selling them.
Just received mine from OG. Yes it is loose. As Matt mentioned using Tessa tape I have thin gauge felt with adhesive back. Cut two strips and added to top and bottom of the base section of stubby. Now super tight and takes two steps now to remove. Issue I think is base piece has a gray rubber ring inside. Designed to touch blower tube and base of bottom stubby piece needs to touch blower. There is 1-2mm of play now. Might be made to fit all and reason for play. I will use but also ordered 3D nozzle to try. Bigger question on my end is the high pitch sound. With end extension stubby off less noise. When both pieces on the sound pitch is high. Feels like some turbulence fins needed to break up sound barrier sound. Very high pitch. Will see when 3D piece comes. PS, Hex Member here. Will wear hearing protection no matter what I use but the pitch greatly increases with OE stubby. Might be faster air speed from stubby tightness of nozzle. I have 650.
I wonder if it’s the 2 piece design that’s causing the db increase. Or really just that lip you can see on the inside where the 2 pieces meet. Just like with exhausts you want the cleanest path for the air to follow. Any turbulence is going to change it. I’m going to see if shaving down that lip brings the db back down this weekend.
That being said, still a great product. Thanks Matt and apexaire.
Just got my stubby, same amount of play as stock tube on my 650. Love it worth the wait probably a lifetime piece, thanks Obsessed Garage!
It’s crazy that the Facebook group overly glorified this as a problem. Easy enough fix. The fit and finish of this one looks better than the Etsy that I have. May have to pick one of these up.
Good stuff Matt and Tommy.
I saw the post, and was thinking it was screwed.
Seems like a pretty minor issue. It’s an aftermarket/DIY product. Throw some electrical or duct tape on the end and call it good.
“Faking the glove like OJ.” Absolutely hilarious and totally true.
Why do I need a stubby at all? I prefer the long stock tube. It makes drying the roof, good, and trunk lid easier. When drying the front, sides, rear, I just stand back a bit further to allow for the tube length.
I honestly don't get why anyone would want a stubby tube.
If you have Milwaukee tools with Milwaukee batteries, they make a leaf blower, and you can purchase aftermarket accessories on Ebay for those, too.
y’all need to make this piece of plastic more affordable. this is well over $100 for us Canadians 😖
Hardly their fault your currency is shit. Jesus, people just write for the sake of writing
People are complaining because of a little wobble? I got mine on Saturday and didn't even notice until this video was posted. I just went out and checked it and there is some wobble but who cares? It's secured to the blower and not going anywhere.
Not to get to technical, but every 3 DB isn’t “double loud”, you are confusing this with, to increase the volume 3 DB at the same sound quality, you need double the the power.
Ah...yes. Great clarification. I've been confusing that for many years now.
Is the ego 765 too strong to blow dry a car ? I have the 650 how much of a difference is it
What kind of scissors is he using that he keeps joking about that are so expensive? 😂
Do a Second Choice of one piece no divide in 2 Parts.
I wanted to purchase one but the cost to ship to NZ was more than the unit itself so I 3d printed a variant. I would have much preferred to have purchased one of these but shipping costs need some work.
Personally I hate the two stage nozzles I wouldn't buy it just for that reason... Unfortunate I need one.
For a guy who claims to be “obsessed” with quality, perfection and detail oriented, you released a lousy product. Why hurry it.
Ego already sells a stubby gutter attachment that’s superior to this in quality. Why put your obsessed name on something inferior. 🤷♂️ no thanks.
Did you even watch the video?
@@jordanjohnson5784 I did…
I don’t care if I’m going to be the one testing product fit for something new, but charge me appropriately. Don’t charge me like you’re sending out a finished product.
Next time I’ll charge you $100 if it makes you feel better.
@@ObsessedGarage showing your true colors.
you sure the wiggle isnt there to keep the shake out of your hands? :D
F no im not gonna send it back
Just order one for my 765 CFM.
The problem is your attitude towards this thing, saying you don't understand what the issue is, that it's only V1, while charging $80 is just insulting towards your customers. You're expecting your customers to to just hand over good chunk of money like it's nothing, V1 didn't come out that good, oh well, we tested it on people with their own money, who cares. Now if you sold these for $25 for first testers, and it didn't pan out, that would be a different thing.
If you say so. I’m not an entitled customer, so I will never understand.
F the wiggle, it works.😂
I have a 2018 EGO LB5750E (575 CFM?). Is it the EU equivalent to another US-model?
Anybody?
Longing for the days of curation,
and hating the days of creation?
2 minutes in and I’m unsure the problem. Why am I watching this?
Honestly, the bigger problem seems to be them coming off on people.
For the wobble id say even shipping some tape to insulate them it would work.
isnt there a way to have a twist and click mechanism?
Appreciate you guys made a video on this. But I think people need to understand the manufacturing process and the fact that achieving these kind of tolerances with plastic is nearly impossible. Not to mention the nozzle on the blower itself wiggles around. The fact is, it’s working. Complaining because it’s a little bit loose is insane.
I’m guessing it will get better, then worse, then better again. I’ve had the same issue with pretty much every product.
@@ObsessedGarage and that’s why I’ve happily stayed in the OG community for so long (since F80 M3 days) - your pursuit of finding / making / refining everything is exactly how I am. Getting as close as you got on the first attempt is damn impressive. Keep it up!
Received the stubby yesterday
High quality….and it fits my 530 perfectly. 👍
-- weird, when I wiggle my stubby it gets bigger 🤣
Did you put tape on it
Stubby is 💯 percent worth the wait just got mine last week
I failed to notice the issue until this video. So, I guess I have to put some Tesa tape on my blower now. Ha. I dont know what people thought they would get with a first run of a product. It was a concept that works for drying the cars and much easier to work with than the long tube. I will be keeping mine. That bumper on the end looks cool. I didn't add the extra for it but I like how it looks seeing it here.
Mine works great, glad I ordered it
For those that want to go back to using their ego accessories and not have a tighter tolerance for those pieces, it may be better to add tape to the stubby rather than the machine itself, just a thought to consider.
@@peterjohnson8631 overhead. These are being manufactured in small batches in China and being air freighted here. The mold making and tooling is a significant expense. As Matt mentioned, the guy leading the effort is currently selling these at a loss, and OG has a $10 margin on them.
The cheap ones are being 3D printed in some guy's basement.
Excellent idea!
@@jeffc6832 fwiw, these are being brought over by container ships and not air freight. Air freight to here would not take 6 weeks, more like a few days on a 747 coming from China. 😁 And air freight would add about $100 to the cost (minimum) for each unit. So people would end up paying about $200 for one of these if they were air freighted over here.
Anyone else feel like the sound with the stubby is so much louder now?
It is louder now, like 2 to 3 times louder.
2-3 times louder wow. I knew something was off when I lifted it above my head and it sounded like a jet engine taking off 🤣
I like mine Matt! Thank you for making it happen.
Just get a Metro Master Blaster 8.0 Peak HP (dual motor) 400 CFM with 10" flex hose and full rubber nozzle. Blows warm air after a few minutes too and could also be hung on the wall.
I have both and they are both great tools. They are not created equal for every situation. I use the EGO blower far more because I do not have access to a power outlet.
8 peak horsepower? So it's drawing a peak of 5966 watts from the wall? 🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️
I had one about 10 years ago. I hated dragging it around.
@@Factoryseconds123 Althou
Although I'm not an electrician my understanding is that it is 2280 watts, 120 volts x 19 amps. So a dedicated 20 amp circuit would have 2400 watts and would be just fine without tripping the breaker. Each motor has its own toggle switch to start them up separately so not to have a maximum draw initially. @@Factoryseconds123
Love mine. Keep up the good work fellas!
When and where will I be able to buy a stubby? Thanks
Fred
I think we will have them in stock in about 6 weeks. We still have about 500 more preorders to fill.
OK great.so do I order them on the obsessed garage website?
Air blows through it. It doesn't need to hold pressure, so the fit can be a bit, dare I say, "janky".
I have the EGO 530 leaf blower and its great. I am knee deep into the EGO brand with the blower, line trimmer, self propelled mower and a hedge trimmer. I am not disappointed in any of them - being able to swap batteries is key. Happy to get the gas fumes out of the garage.
I will be buying the new OG Ego blower nozzle. Much safer / better alternative to using the narrower gutter cleaning extension tube on the blower.
Still quieter than my neighbor who has a Stihl backpack mounted leaf blower. That thing is uber, wake the dead, loud.
I bought mine knowing that it would wobble I just want a stubby damn it 🥴
You can't please everyone, and if someone is entitled they are going to be a loser no matter what.
I bought a $700 Vyper chair with tool tray from you guys (and its some of the best $700 I ever spent). Somewhere between FL and MN one of the ears of the tool tray got bent. Even though it wasn't your fault, if I was an entitled baby I would've bitched about it on the FB group or started whining to the support guys. Since I'm an adult, I smacked it between a dead blow hammer and a 2x4. Good as new and the powdercoat didn't crack, so I put it together and went on with my life.
I'm one of those rinseless weirdos, so I rarely use a blower on my car...but I'll pick up a stubby from the next batch. If you guys come up with a solution for it, great...but if not I'll just grab my Tesa tape from the drawer. Are you really a car guy if you don't already have that in your toolbox?
Ordered a Vyper Fan and it should be arriving today, crossing fingers it comes in one piece
It guys like you that make it all worth it. I do the exact same thing when something isn’t perfect.

You need to do a reserve your spot to grab any returns, I'm in for one
My goodness, the ones whining expecting perfection on a first run obviously have never been in manufacturing. I noticed a slight looseness but knew it would get sorted out.
may not have been the best idea to launch the nearly t0 shots. would've been smart to testa large sample size before shipping the product. that's how a reputable manufacturing would have done it.
