I do not understand what is happening in this country. I have a request for coverage of the coming chaos: ignore cheetolini. I don’t give a shit about any of his natterings. Cover the bills in Congress-what they ACTUALLY say, what they ACTUALLY mean, and who voted how. I don’t care they say. I want to know what they’re DOING.
I don't want to hear his slurring voice! I fast forward or mute the audio when it comes on. I need to know what the criminals in the White House are doing. I do not need to compare those actions to the lies that come out of his mouth.
I SO wish that the left would lock him out completely. Just look at/talk about the actual laws but don't give him any individual press. He would hate that and we'd be saner for it!
As a blue dot in a red state, My Facebook account was bombarded with mysoginyistic comments from male and female Trump supporters that I know. I was in a panic that we would be looking at a repeat of 2016. I saw the writing on the wall and could do nothing about it.
Thank you for saying this. It's driving me nuts. Even if it was a tiny fraction of voters, that is enough to be a problem when the difference is not even a few percentage points. It wasn't the only issue, but people are kidding themselves pretending misogyny is a nonissue.

So many people blamed inflation as a reason for voting for Trump while simultaneously acknowledging that their personal household financial situation was in good standing. Gas lit indeed 😊
I heard a lot of that too. People saying, “I’m OK, but everyone else is in financial trouble.” Even at trump rallies, the people who said they were worse off financially were the people who also were spending a fortune on MAGA merch and traveling to multiple rallies!

@@lorenzor124in the 2016 election, Hilary actually had experience in the white house, if it was from being the first lady, and was a political figure in general. Trump's qualifications were that he... Lemme check my notes real quick... Was a celebrity and wanted to. Wow. Definitely not sexist at all. This recent election was definitely a lot harder to say much about Trump's qualifications, but judging by all the people who called Biden "too old to do the job" then wouldn't vote for Kamala when he stepped down is kinda iffy. Trump is the oldest president elect we've had. If he lives to the end of his presidency he will be the oldest. Kamala is 60. Suspicious. Also she did have a policy, btw. She had clear things that she said she was gonna do (eg stop price gouging stuff like that) whereas Trump had "Concepts of a plan"
@ Hilary was way more qualified than trump was. She was an actual political figure and Trump was a celebrity. Kamala had actual policy. Stop price gouging. Keep fracking. Cap medicine. Etc. Trump had "concepts of a plan." There were a bunch of people who also called Biden too old to be president, which I agree with, but I haven't seen one person who said that switch to Kamala when she's 20 years younger than both of them, and Trump is on track to being our oldest sitting president.

I like his approach on CRT and indoctrination of our youth, although I do support LGBTQ adults to make their own choices. Just as kids shouldn't be allowed to get tatoos, drimk alcohol, etc - they shouldn't be allowed to pick their genders. So yeah, a lot to like about Trump.
@@nicolepasqualino6950Actually, I think we are. Channeling anger about the wealth gap into misogyny and racism has been the playbook since the ‘60s. Why do you think the previously non-political pro-life evangelicals fit so neatly into the coalition?
Eh, yes and no. I think economic pressures are used to manipulate people into fighting against one another rather than dare to criticize their capitalist overlords; however, I think the racism and misogyny (xenophobia, queerphobia, etc) needs to already be in place in order for it to work. The economic injustice just exacerbates the underlying willingness to attack and dehumanize people who are more vulnerable than you. I mean, I live in poverty, but I'm not using my situation as an excuse to scapegoat other marginalized groups, and neither is anyone else who cares about understanding / fighting against injustice.
“I don’t want a DEI hire for president.” I heard and read this all over the place. It astounds me that anyone (especially real news outlets) could say that racism and misogyny weren’t major factors in this election.
European-American people voting Republican are voting in line with our interests. We want lower taxes, safe borders, less inflation and less сrimе. Dems lost a lot of working-class voters of all racial backgrounds because they have no platform for working-class people. Voting democrat is not an option. An elderly female client of mine had told me while she didn't like Cheetolini, she did not believe a woman was emotionally capable to make a competent president. Now while that generation is on their way to the great beyond there are so many other things stacked against us, it really makes one despair.

Sorry, was that a surprise for this election, and I'd even ask was that a surprise for the first Trump win for you? The networks didn't force the millions and millions of missing voters away from the polls, EITHER! This whining about racism and misogyny is a red herring to the REAL issues, but it's guaranteed CLICK-BATE and COMFORT WHINING, taking the place of the action that NEEDS to be taken.
Can you demonstrate how the misogyny you claim to see actually exists? Simply concluding when a female candidate doesn't win that misogyny must be the reason, is not evidence. It would, however, be compelling evidence that you're not able to reason very well.
Misogyny didn't help Harris but it's bullshit to think it's the main reason she didn't win. She was cheered as a change candidate after Biden was rightfully forced to drop out. What did she go on to do? Say she's gonna be exactly like Biden, not breaking from him at all and sometimes even going further right on foreign policy. When foreign policy was one of the biggest nails in the coffin for Biden's reelection campaign, why would anyone try to say that they're gonna be exactly like their predecessor on that front? If you want to blame anyone, blame the establishment Dems like Chuck Schumer, who said they wanted to move right to capture more "centrist" votes. He said that for every left wing vote they'd lose, they'd pick up 2-3 centrist votes. How did that pan out this election?
@@wardandrew23412 That's like asking someone to describe the racism and anti-Semitism that pervades our culture. Just because someone isn't saying "people with uteruses suck" straight to your face, it doesn't mean they aren't misogynistic. That's a dog whistle for misogyny. I could come up with half a dozen other examples, both in my personal experience and online, but I'm guessing from your tone that you'll find another reason to dismiss my observations.
A simple way to help with the election night coverage is to prevent polls from publishing results until ALL polls are closed. In Canada, there is a media blackout on results until all polls are closed. The east coast doesn't get to see results until the morning. It slows the commentary down a lot.
That's how it usually plays out. Keep in mind that there was a great deal of election interference, and races were called within minutes of polls closing. This was just a tad ridiculous and obvious.
Yes, this! I think so much confusion and room for conspiratorial thinking results from the constant drip feed of "votes in" or "precincts reporting" by the news networks. Other democracies do not report results until the counts are certified.

The big issue I have with election night is with the electoral college, that system is sooo outdated and stupid, the fact that they let a handful of states decide the election is just stupid and lazy!! And I still think that there was something hinky going on because I just can't understand how he won all the swing states&the popular vote!
Putin's PsyOps campaign goes back at least to the squawks of blame at Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for attack on Benghazi embassy. Actual votes were there for drumpf due to misinfo & flat out lies, some paid in rubles, and due to partisan treatment by legacy media whose owners dread regulation and taxation above all else.
if we switch to popular vote a handful of states will also elect the president. it should be each state has 1 electoral vote and you win a state with popular vote, then both sides would be happy. whoever wins the most states becomes president
AOC's post mortem is the most telling. So many said that they didn't know what Trump was going to do but they felt Trump was going to fight for them. The populist message was the winning message.
And what was Trumps populist message? "Don't you want to go back to when *you* were on top?" Who is the *you* he is talking about? He purposely leaves it vague so everyone can fill in what they mean. Who do you think that particular message appeals to the most? Thats what a dog whistle is. It isn't about Trump. Its about America. Trump isn't the problem, he is just a symptom.
The key words are "low information voter" . We have to find them where they are at, and figure out how to inform them. In form them in a way, that they will receive it. Trump excels at this. And it is much easier for him to do it than a Dem because he is targeting their feeling and not facts. So may be that's where we start. We also can't keep thinking if we play by the rules that we will win. Where has this gotten us?
Democrats need to stop lying to themselves that they have the facts and republicans have only lies. It’s not true and it’s not productive. Inflation was very high. The border was essentially open. These were the two main facts Trump voters cited for their vote.
I’m a white woman and I am ashamed that I didn’t poll my friends and neighbors about their vote. I thought there was no way that women were going to vote for him. I figured white men were a lost cause, but I believed that women and younger voters would put Kamala over the top and so I was complacent. I am horrified that so many white women voted for him.
I'm not trying to be rude, by why did you assume that, considering what they did the last time and even on the more local level with proven child predators like Roy Moore (if I'm even remembering that ghoul's name correctly)? This is just what they do. It's partly jealousy. THEY are not in charge of running something as large as a country, so they certainly don't want to see another woman doing it. THEY can't even get their husband to stay faithful or to clean his backside properly so he stops streaking his underwear. So, why should another woman get to run the country? And they doubly or triply don't want to see a woman do it if she's a minority.

Consider this...from where I am in Canada and watching everything that has gone down...Kamala had a 107 day run while Donald never stopped campaigning. Even after he became 45, he never stopped campaigning, he continued holding rallies all through his first term and the 4 years he was out of office...he never let the American People forget about him, not for a minute...That kind of self promotion can be powerful. And yes, I would love to never see his stupid orange face again. Just remember "Women's work is Never Done" as my Gran used to say...we must keep on fighting.
I agree! I have been wondering why everyone is bashing Kamala and her team, for what they did wrong....she almost won with a three month campaign! What did she do right? How can one battle the complacent media, the dumbing down of population, christian insanity and brainwashing.,. so many have been in his cult for almost a decade. She did a great job to get so close. It is time to start educating and self promoting the accomplishments, every day. The cult leader will take credit for everything Dems have done with infrastructure. Past time to get loud.
The short campaign season was an asset. She was lionized by the MSM the first month. Then she started dodging interviews and questions. Had the election been in September she would have won. The more people got to know her, the less they liked her.
Racism and sexism are the two main reasons. I kind of think the roughly 20% of U.S. high school graduates who are functionally illiterate also had something to do with it. All those criticisms people are throwing at Democrats constitute maybe less than 5 percent of the problem.
Is it ever possible for a woman to fail without it being because of sexism? Is it possible for a WOC to fail without it being because of sexism AND racism? Women fail all the time. Is it so hard to just admit that it happens? Is it so hard to imagine that Kamala Harris was just not the right candidate for the moment? Does no one notice that the presidency changes parties every time a president leaves office? People wanted change and Kamala wasn't change.
Those people generally don't vote. Almost every friend I have is college educated. They went about 70% for Trump. People keep babbling that Kamala did not focus on the whole leftwing agenda so why were we worried about that conglomeration of acronyms spouted by various grievance groups? As if there was no record. We know who she is, especially those of us in California. We know the democrats and their record on DEI, the border, immigration, trans activism, inflation, Afghanistan, removal of sanctions on Iran... on and on. Blowing the results off to racism and sexism is simply a cowardly way of rejecting accountability and self-reflection.
Erin is one of the only people who says what I feel. Since the election I feel in absolute lock step with every take and emotion she has voiced. I know she said she was considering taking a step back from podcasting, but I really hope she stays. She is one of very few voices I have heard that perfectly encapsulates what I have seen so many people feel and what I personally feel. I feel less alone when I listen to Hysteria. I feel seen hearing about her anger and her feelings of betrayal. I feel gaslit by political pundits who theorize on why Harris lost. I feel gaslit by voters. I feel like no one wants to talk about the elephant in the room and everyone is *desperate* to avoid the topic. To the point that it feels inevitable that it will happen again. I have listened to many post mortems, including ones from Pod Save and the Bulwark. I have genuinely tried to understand. Absolutely none of them tracks and all of them just normalize Trump as if he was a regular run of the mill GOP candidate. There is always a reason to not vote for someone. There is always *something*. Americans vote for who they trust the most to handle whatever issue is the most important to them. At the end of the day, the majority of Americans trusted a white male felon who is a known liar over a black/Indian woman who they didn't know as well. They instinctively thought the man would handle the economy better and they trusted him more with the future of the United States. Despite the fact that he was a 34 count felon, a 2 time previously impeached president, an insurrectionist, a rapist, and the oldest person ever to be president. It is clear to me after the election that people are lying to pollsters and focus groups. They are probably lying to themselves. Anyone who paid attention would come to that conclusion.
Trump is just the messenger for what many Americans feel. Of course the “they/them” cult is gonna put their head in the sand and think its all gonna go away. Even if Trump becomes irrelevant his policies have lit a fire under many conservatives. We are here to stay. Deal with it.
And, what is at the root of racism and misogyny??? It’s fear. People have a serious and deep seated problem with their own feelings of fear and need to do some serious self-reflection to address it. Sadly, only a handful people bother stop and take a look at the true nature of thoughts and emotions and learn to work with their own mind.

It did not seem to bother a lot of the left-wing media or the Dems anywhere near how much it bothered me. I talk politics TOO MUCH sometimes with total strangers, here in TN and too many of those strangers demonstrate unfathomable levels of ignorance. Despite all the court cases, despite how obviously incompetent that man is and proves himself to be etc, the moment the Middle East started looking the way it does now, I told myself, "Oh Gawd a racist criminal over in the Middle East just handed Donald Skunk the presidency." It felt like THAT was 2024's 'BERNIE OR BUST' movement (from 2016). I suspected that it MIGHT sink the Dems. UNCOMMITTED they called it? Regardless, it produced the same results as 2016. Dems were caught CREDIBLY looking shady again and couple that with the voter suppression tactics of the Rignt-Wingers and you lose voter enthusiasm. The cultists never lose enthusiasm. My 2 cents.
The Democrat party needs new policies and new leadership. The platform is a loser at this point. Republicans for the time being have moderated on abortion and this can’t be the lead policy issue.
Question, do you think it helped Harris to run on a message of "I'll be just like Biden, and more" helped her campaign message? I do not think you've really understood the flaws in her campaign strategy if you think the biggest/only reason she lost was because of sexism. If the people didn't like that Harris became the new candidate, why did her campaign warchest double twice in the early days of her announcement. Firstly after her pick, and secondly after picking Tim Walz. The Harris campaign had momentum, but the establishment Dems directed her civility and centrist ideals. Just think about it in your own circles, do you know anyone that would've been swayed by the campaign stop with Liz Cheney? I assume that you know no one for whom that changed anything for. So why did they go for it? For a never Trump republican, Liz Cheney is the worst you could pick. She voted 93% in line with Trump, that is the highest of all republicans. Far from a call to old republicans. But let's say that did work in the mind of a specific voter. The Cheney name is tarred for those with memories of the illegal Iraq war. Why pick a Cheney in the midst of another conflict in the Middle East that the majority of Americans across the political spectrum want a ceasefire for?

I'd learn some great depression tactics. Gardening. Cooking. Sewing. Learn how to build a fire. You think you won't need it but it might be important. Build some community. Make some friends that you see on a weekly basis. This could be your neighbors, coworkers, etc. Just be careful who you pick, because if they voted for Trump over the price of eggs, they'd turn you in for a cash reward. Also I'd learn some medicinal herbs. Particularly ones with warnings on Google that say "Do not take if you are pregnant, because it can cause miscarriages" because... That's fixing to be important too. Yarrow is a good one. Catnip is as well. Do some research before you take them tho because herbs can always interact with your medicine if you're taking any. Also have an escape plan and a passport. A gun is also a good idea, but some people have opinions on those so I'm not going to tell you for sure to get one. I personally just think it's advisable.
Google ate my reply, so I'm putting a shortened version here. Sorry if you're getting this 2ce. 1. Learn great depression tactics. Gardening in particular. (Especially with the târiffs. Things gonna be expensive) 2. Build community. Avoid trumpies tho, because fascism spreads like zombies, and you think your loved one is safe, but nobody is safe from propaganda. If they watch Fox News they are a liability. They WILL turn you in if they think it's for the greater good. And hopefully we don't get that far, but nobody ever thinks they will. 3. Learn your medicinal herbs. Particularly the ones that start periods and cause miscarriages. For uh... Reasons.
The UN report on feminist index scores reveals the US ranks as # 48 country far below Mexico and many Arab countries. It's truly deplorable how unjust America is towards women. There was discust and shock by the researchers whose foot note read: 9 out of 10 American men and women cling to negative biases of women; in spite of evident proof contrary to that negative bias.
Blame Reagan for that. He won the president by riling up conservative women against liberal women. Then when he won, (he walked away from Phyllis Shafly - the conservative woman/lawyer who helped him most) and he never rewarded women with places in the administration as he had promised. Conservatives have been using women to get power for decades! It’s working so they are not going to stop.

At best, MAGA is OK with hate, racism, and misogyny, even though they're personally not in favor of those things. But the reality is that many MAGA voters are positively in favor of those things.
Most trump voters believe the Democratic Party is more bigoted and racist than the Republican candidate. You need to leave your bubble. Most people are not racist in the slightest on both sides. And they are not ‘okay’ with racism or bigotry. They simply don’t agree with your contention that their candidate is racist, misogynistic, etc. They believe it’s political smearing and bull.

I voted in Michigan. The line was 2 hours long. The 2 hours of people in front of me and the 2 hours of people behind me was 75% older women. Older women went to the polls and literally said, "I had to have those babies. So should these chicks.". He overwhelmingly won my county.

I think it was about those issues but really about the reality that we actually live in. The price gouging, the cost of housing, the price of fuel. But I’m still can’t believe that they sold their daughters, granddaughters, and ALL women of childbearing age down the river because their eggs cost too much. I still can’t understand how they can continue to vote against their own best interests. I don’t get how anyone could vote for him and his MAGA GOO PARTY.

This recent election was definitely a lot harder to say much about Trump's qualifications, but judging by all the people who called Biden "too old to do the job" then wouldn't vote for Kamala when he stepped down is kinda iffy.

I always say this but I'll say it again: If Trump stopped being a bigot and said he's going to start treating everyone equally, he would lose almost all of his supporters. Believe that.

Yes it's not logical or believable.
if we switch to popular vote a handful of states will also elect the president. it should be each state has 1 electoral vote and you win a state with popular vote, then both sides would be happy. whoever wins the most states becomes president
Because he ran against the worst shit candidate in history?
Election deniers?
AOC's post mortem is the most telling. So many said that they didn't know what Trump was going to do but they felt Trump was going to fight for them. The populist message was the winning message.
"Radical change" vs "status quo" yet people are still in denial
It’s called GASLIGHTING to lie to you to your face and make you think you are the crazy one.
Harris also said she'd do things for the population but they didn't listen to her. He proved he has never been for the population
Lol populist message no one would say I am not voting for that black B. So they come up with BS reasons to vote for him.
And what was Trumps populist message? "Don't you want to go back to when *you* were on top?"
Who is the *you* he is talking about?
Fox News, the biggest spreader of misinformation, is also the most watched "news" program on television.
Well said.
The majority of white women have always voted Republican.
Yeah it’s really sad I honestly thought abortion would have been the issue to win you guys over

I have all but stopped all my pod save content except THIS show. You all somehow manage to help me process my bleak feelings while giving perspective I think is really lacking elsewhere.
Exactly 💯
If this is the takeaway the Republicans should relax. The Democratic ecosystem is still lost.
These people are whackadoodles who the party should ignore. They will vote Democrat no matter what democrats run on. They’re blinded by partisanship.
Racism and sexism are the two main reasons. I kind of think the roughly 20% of U.S. high school graduates who are functionally illiterate also had something to do with it. All those criticisms people are throwing at Democrats constitute maybe less than 5 percent of the problem.
I wonder if racist white women and sexist black men will soon start to bond over being effed over by MAGA.😁
This was a strangely refreshing episode. I'm glad you're telling it like it is.
I feel like if the 2024 Dems had 300 days, they would have blown $3 billion with the same results
The 2020 results left me scared for 2024. My assessment of the 2024 election results starts earlier: with the 2020 elections. Despite Dems winning, the fact that 74 million voted for the racist disaster of a president seriously bothered me.

Google keeps eating my replies. Can I put the list separately? I have a lot of advice, and the problem might be that they're too long???
