@hysteria podcast as someone who is part of the LGBTQ+ community, when the government fails to support LGBTQ+ communities, individuals and local organizations can step up to create safe, inclusive spaces. This can include advocating for equal rights at the grassroots level, donating to LGBTQ+ support organizations, providing resources like mental health services and housing assistance, and fostering inclusive environments in workplaces and schools. Small acts of allyship-like standing up against discrimination, using inclusive language, and amplifying LGBTQ+ voices-can make a big difference. The power of community often lies in collective action and mutual care, even in the absence of government support. I really appreciate this podcast.

From a trans man- Ask them what you can do to help them secure their legal documents. Exact points you said before - original Birth certificate, renew passport, SSN card. Stockpile gender affirming care. I’ll be happy to elaborate on this. I just got all my documents in order and am aware of all the details
Need said documents apostilled. Like birth certificate, marriage documents, college degree if any. In case you leave the country these usa documents are not valid unless apostilled. It’s pretty cheap to do it and takes the states between 2-4 weeks usually to do that
@Saturn_Drawz I've never needed it. Been in plenty of rough situations without one and I'm still here. Never been anti-gun. Been to the range a few times, but never bought my own gun. That's the big difference.
@@Saturn_Drawz I'm obviously not against self defense. I also think people who never bought a gun until now, full grown men in particularly, have no business buying one now. It's clearly not something that they feel comfortable with. My drill sergeant gave me this speech and it stuck to my brain. Your rifle is different than other things. A knife is made to cut food, a axe is made to fell trees. Your rifle was made to kill. She has no other purpose and that is her curse. She wants to kill. She doesn't care who she kills, you or the enemy it's all the same to her. Treat her with respect, fear even, or you will face the consequences.
A little outside of this. As a person who needs to go into semi-hiding... If this society doesn't want me to be around then they don't get my participation in any way including the economy. I am going to quiet quit the entire economy as best I can. Only necessary purchases which I will do without guilt, but don't expect me to take on anything approaching a luxury item or even an everyday random purchase. No candy bars, no picture frames, all my water will come from the tap, nothing that isn't a car payment or necessary gas and bills. I can go 4 years without a acquiring more crap. Instead of spending money all of it will go into savings which will benefit me if I need to leave in an emergency. After the four years is over if there is a political party that I support idealistically, I will benefit them financially with the money I've saved.
Good luck, I hope the tap water is ok in your area, might be worth investing in a purifier system of some kind as I wouldn’t put it past the orange monkey to mess up the water supply
I am a gun owner with prior law enforcement training. My advice if you think you need to get one; go to a gun range, rent a gun to learn to shoot. People usually have one of two reactions their first time; 1. I love it, I feel empowered, I'll do the work, get the training, etc., and 2. Oh shit, not for me. Get a gun safe, keep it in your bedroom, make sure it has a biometric lock. Quick open by fingerprint, so the kids can't get to it, and make sure it's mounted to a wall, or large piece of furniture, so it can't be stolen. I don't understand keeping an unloaded gun locked up with the ammo in a different secured location...I keep mine loaded in the safe, ready to go. Likely any intrusion would be late at night when I'm in bed, so it's within close reach of my bed. You also have to get that mind-set of "if it's my life or theirs, I'm OK with taking a life". I'm 100% there as a survivor of abuse. I've never had a concealed carry permit before, didn't think I needed it, but I've scheduled a class to get that permit next month.
even though I am completely against owning or using a gun, what you said makes complete sense to me. So many people here saying to keep the ammo seperate. Then how foolish would you feel if an intruder was in your house, you have your gun ready but the ammo is kept in the basement...
You forgot to tell the White liberal women especially, to be wary of Black men. Ever go to your ATM machine at night? It ain't those pesky Red Caps that you are nervous about.
I used to work with a nurse who had previously been a cop for over 20 years. She said that if you want to have a gun in your house, you should keep it near you at all times. Otherwise it’s useless. When you need it, you need it right away! Also, she convinced me that a revolver was better to get than an automatic, because there’s less chance of jamming. They’re more reliable.
Yes, it’s bad. But look on the bright side, trump’s ultimate goal is to take down the American government. When that happens the UK can come back and take it back over. Please?

People who look like immigrants, even if native born US citizens need to be protected too. The mass deportation round-ups will target anyone who looks different, regardless of actual documentation.
The scariest part is this talk of taking away birthright citizenship, meaning not recognizing LEGAL citizenship. It's exactly the slippery slope people have been warning of for decades..😢
I wonder if the advice given here about gathering one's original documentation might be especially helpful for any immigrants (or citizens, for that matter). The simple reassurance in being fairly easily able to locate & secure these documents is going to help me to some degree.

Bear spray is a GREAT idea. Its not illegal to carry, nonlethal and VERY effective.esp for a group assault! Training for use is available which would include laws around its use.
I'm not going to apologize for expressing this. If you are a Latin-American who was born here, and you voted for Donald Trump, and now your undocumented parent or grandparent is going to get kicked out of the country, I have zero sympathy for you. You were born and raised here, and you had access to all the same media that I did. Yet you came to the conclusion that that guy was going to do something good for you and your community? Tough shit. Now you get to deal with what you brought on yourself and your family. Unfortunately, your choice will bring serious collateral damage to millions of other people who were not able to vote but who needed your protection. I voted to protect your family. You did not.
66.2% of Americans can't get $500 together for an emergency. They work 2-3 jobs and can't pay rent and buy food for their children. They are extremely time poor. Corporate media sanewashed Trump and normalised his behaviours by not reporting his behaviours. 60% of Americans are reading and writing at a 6th Grade level. 1 in 3 of these are reading and writing at an 8 year old level. This means that they haven't progressed from concrete to abstract thinking. They do not have critical thinking skills to see through corporate sanewashing. Republicans have engaged in voter suppression and racial gerrymandering for decades. Many people couldn't access voting. Both Republicans and Democrats conspired to use the neoliberalist Poverty as a Policy Choice for the last 40 years. Some folks if they missed a shift their kids would not eat. No one sees the media that you saw. The algorithms are worth googling.
Are you aware Biden reversed all of Trumps border policies? This administration had immigrants who crossed the border illegally flown to cities at night. Catholic Charities, Lutheran Charities, Jewish Charities and Hotels gave them shelter . It cost tax payers 66 billion dollars for illegal immigrants in 2023 . They get health insurance, food stamps, credit cards and housing. Trump is starting with illegal immigrants who have a criminal record . The people sucking off the system who are not contributing to society. The deportations haven't started yet . Do you lack empathy for the family of Laken Riley? Are you comfortable knowing people who were convicted of murder roaming free on the streets? Laken Riley fought her attacker for 18 minutes before he beat her to death . Are you against vetting people at the border? Have you buried a loved one or know of someone who buried a loved one because of Fentynal? You have no idea about about what is happening in cities across America. Immigrants from Venezuela who are part of criminal gang are taking over apartment buildings. Is that fair to American citizens?

I live in Colorado in Leadville, we have always had a huge immigrant population. This week everybody in town is in an uproar over us being a sanctuary city. Texas has bought up the town since covid, and for the first time ever we are faced with the GOP politics. My kids friends are terrified that everyone is going to be deported. @ Stick with it, I know it can feel frustrating and as a vet, ‘sucking it up’ is a hard mindset to kick. Keep your eye on the ball. It will be worth it! Once you finally get your rating, you’ll get assigned a primary care provider. Depending on where you end up setting up home, it can be at a major VA campus or a satellite clinic-often on active bases with medical facilities. Your PC will follow all of your care, and refer you to specialty care. MAKE SURE YOU ARE SEEN AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR!!! In order to keep your VA care benefits, you must use them. Otherwise it starts the whole process all over again. If your rating will be less than 35%…(this number may have changed since 2008) do yourself a favor-unless independently wealthy lol-sign up to continue with Tricare Prime or their alternative programs. Very affordable, immediately available and usually easy to access a base facility or network care. It is usually a more comprehensive program than employment offered medical. My LGBTQIA+ kid and his trans boyfriend are understandably worried right now, and all we've been able to do is reassure them that we are here, we love them, we will continue to support them, and we love them. Perception of widespread public support for us is important. -Visibly ally with us in whatever way you can, (If you find that scary, I agree. It is a scary step to be a visible ally.)
Mrs. Mastromonaco's thought process on gun owning is a sound one. 1. To get educated and learn to handle and properly discharge a pistol or a revolver. 2. Apply for and get a legal Permit. 3. Buying a gun is always Optional. Well thought. Note: Once you have the education and the permit, you can window shop and browse Non-Lethal Air powered guns or rifles, or Crossbows even.
This is exactly my plan. I have no guns. This weekend I take a permit to carry class. Plan to get a concealed carry permit. Meanwhile, will spend time at the shooting range trying different guns to see what makes most sense for me, take other gun and self defense classes, and get nonlethal weapons and knowledge. Then build muscle memory with safe gun handling techniques, with dry firing first. I’ll get a gun when ready, but not sooner.
@@ashleighnelson512 Hi,@ashleighnelson; if you plan to keep your gun {s} at home and have them for home protection then you do not need a conceal weapons permit. But if you are going to carry it on your person, your handbag, shoulder bag, backpack or your car's glove compartment then the Concealed Permit is a Must. It is the same with Daggers and Switch Blades, contrary to popular belief.
@@MrMonoyoAnother benefit of concealed carry permit is it's not specific to a single firearm. If you're not certain which one you want to buy a concealed carry permit applies to any firearm you may eventually decide to buy
11:13 fellas hear me out...a vasectomy will only run you $1200. If you have insurance you wont pay anything up front (even if its not covered) and can put it on a payment plan, I put mine on $100 a month but they would let me go as low as $20. If you dont have insurance you will need to put something down up front but can still do the payment plan. It won't affect how it works, it may even work better than before, and look u dont need blood kids you can adopt some kids that are desperately in need of a loving and caring home whenever you feel ready to do so.
If you at the point of questioning whether you should have a gun, isnt it time to consider whether you should leave this mess, rather than normalizing the use of guns, which is simply not normal in all other high-income countries.
My top suggestions: 1. Get your Passport incase the Country falls to fascism, and you need to leave the Country fast 2. If your marriage is shaky, get a divorce now before they ban no-fault divorce. 3. Stock up on contraception 4. Move to a Blue State to give you more time 5. If you are gay LGBTQ+ get out of RED STATES now 6. Make sure you have liquid assets, don't tie up all your money in things that take time to cash out 7. Make sure you know ahead of time which foreign country you want to ask for asylum 8. Get elective surgeries done if you are on the Affordable Care Act OBAMACARE 9. If you are done with more children, get your tubal ligations or vasectomies now 10. Make sure you pay your bills down and have money in case you lose your job. Stash cash.

Potentially TMI, but as a younger woman, I had some issues with substances that resulted in an arrest and subsequent felony conviction. Cut to 10 years later, I'm a single mom of 3 working full-time for a health-care company aimed at keeping sick kiddos out of the hospital while attending school. Even if a gun sounded like a good idea, I couldn't get one. When you're not rich, it turns out that felony convictions carry consequences. How bizarre.
Get a biometric safe that you can keep near your bed. I relate with your feeling of not wanting to go to maga range but not much choice. I never really feel like they even know your not maga
I am a 45-year-old woman and I live alone. 20 years ago I got busted for drug possession and according to the state of California, I cannot own a gun. What I can own is pepper spray that comes in the form of a gun that has a laser. in the whole thing. That works for me. Also really glad to hear narcan can just be purchased over the counter. I just bought two boxes from Walgreens. I want to keep one in my glove box because I work in the construction industry and overdose deaths are rampant to say the least.
As sad as it sounds, I've been telling people that are in fear...hide, just try to wait it out. As much as I feel that, in the past, public protests can change the world, in this case just hide, help others.
As a cancer patient my GP called me the day after the election to make certain I was ok. She said she was calling all her cancer patients because she understood the possible consequences for all of us. Particularly anyone whose insurance was through the affordable care act. People forget that before that act our cancer would be considered a preexisting condition. We would become uninsurable. If it weren’t for John McCain the republicans would have already gotten rid of it. My Oncologist was checking on all his patients too. Millions of cancer patients are very worried right now. You should be too.
I am a therapist in Texas. I am also trans. I have already had two clients that had to drive to New Mexico after a miscarriage. (5 hour drive). One client may not be able to have children and almost bleed out. I hoped that the Rust Belt would care about women dying after the criminalization of reproductive care. Turns out they care about as much as the Southern Baptist Church. If you have a uterus I would suggest an IUD. It seems likely Republicans will criminalize abortion nationally. Trans people need to get a passport. You can still change your gender marker without a court order. If you are not in a target group you need to say in the US. Let your Queer employees work remotely so they can leave if things turn to shit.
That's one of the worst things about the Hobby Lobby case; they believe IUDs *ARE* abortions (because the egg is already fertilized, but you're not letting it implant & create a pregnancy).🤯 And the case wasn't just for them to not provide birth control, but also for them to not sign the waiver saying it was against their religious beliefs (with a signed waiver, the employee could get it covered by Obamacare at no cost to Hobby Lobby, but Hobby Lobby didn't want to do **anything** that assisted in any way to get birth control... and they won!). So, yes, get IUDs now while they're still legal (before SCOTUS overrules Griswold v Connecticut, as Clarence Thomas indicated in Dobbs that they should)!
I am a single gay cat lady. Yes, I am concerned. I have never been so glad to be a black belt as now. I am reupping classes and getting in better shape. As a 72 yo I probably wont survive an attack but there will be casualties on the attackers side for real. Get into martial arts and stay there. Self defense classes have never been quite enough. Learning self defense skills with muscle memory is now so important, more than ever. DO NOT SHARE with friends NOR family that you are in martial arts classes as this will be a beacon in the night challenge for an attack AND you ALWAYS want the element of surprise on your side. Do not do mixed martial arts as this is mostly for competition and you might be singled out for target practice for others.. Be sure you vet the studio for initial safety. There are bigots, perps and racists everywhere. I do World Tang Soo Do Association style. They welcome all ages and abilities as everyone can learn/do stuff to defend themselves. Traditional in nature and goals. They go at your pace. They will help you get into good physical shape regardless if you are 7 or 70... Our oldest person to test for and get black belt was 84. I was 55 and have been in it from 1990. I am now 72. Be proactive in your safety. All martial arts when learned well are effective. There is no "best" style. Only a school that works with your abilities and budget. Ours is located in a Senior Center. Low overhead means lower cost for classes. Aim for twice a week. Three times /wk is best for newbees. But if only once a week is on your plate then just do it. Stay low key in general and be aware of your environment around you.

When I learned that Donald had won the 2016 election against Hillary a sense of impending doom came over me and I seriously asked myself whether I should buy a gun. That he was elected despite the Access Hollywood tape was enough to convince me that the world had changed and we were headed into a period of lawlessness. (Imagine if Obama had bragged "And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab ’em by the ______. You can do anything." But there was even more luridness to that conversation!) After serious thought, I chose to not buy a gun. But how prescient my feelings were then, on election night 2016, of the lawlessness to come! And here we are, again, asking ourselves whether we need to protect ourselves from our fellow citizens by arming ourselves!

Erin, your experience with oxycodone was somewhat similar to mine years ago. I had bunion surgery on both feet, and the surgeon chose that medication for post surgery. I think I took it twice and then stopped. It didn’t make me nauseated, but it did NOTHING for the pain. It affected me mentally in that I didn’t care as much about the pain, but it seemed to do NOTHING for said pain. No way did I want to continue using that medication. When I was young I taught dance and aerobics and one night after class one of my students was raped and so we became very safety conscious and we had the Portland police come to our little town on the coast and they gave us classes on self defence and there are ways to feel safe as you can without pulling a gun. Gosh life is scary these days - but honestly after having lived 1000 years it has always been an unsafe world - my Dad who was a sniper in ww2 taught me some gross things to do to get away from danger after he saved me from a kidnapper. it's very American of us to immediately think of guns when considering self defense. However, here's a better list. Long Range Deterrent Sprays/Wasp Spray - Can't shoot you if they can't see you. Baseball Bats - Don't need a permit to go to the batting cages to practice. Krav Maga - All the money you'd spend on a gun, put it towards a martial arts class. Way more cathartic. Body Armor - Spend some time putting together your Hot Apocalypse fit.

True. As a 72 gay woman you still need to stay safe. Ignorance is different than pure hate, selfrighteous radical religious, fascist ideology, and outright mental twerks of frontal lobe anomalies. Somethings dont ever change with biogots, misogynists and racists. Same with homophobia/transphobia. There are folks who discount science and really believe the creation theory that the earth is only 5000 years old. They will discount known science around homosexuality, gender dysphoria and even birth anonmalies of both sex organs in one person. They're not going to believe it unless it happens in their own families. Forget that its in nature along with a multitude of other things.
Although the best thing that I ever did was come out of the closet to my family, I have no illusion that they'll try to slam the door shut first chance they get. If concentration camps become a reality for us, I'll be one of the first carted off compliments of my fam. If I dont get shot on site for what generally comes out of my mouth.
My partner and I are getting married before trump takes office. She and I have both been in the hospital in the recent past, and we have to be able to see each other. Local businesses are offering free services. We're so grateful.
Hospitals should change their rules now. Under Trump’s administration, there’s a chance that your marriage may be canceled. But the hospitals should recognize that, and consider you spouses anyway. They need to step up.
That’s what I think, anyway. ❤️🏳️🌈

Texas has bought up the town since covid, and for the first time ever we are faced with the GOP politics. My kids friends are terrified that everyone is going to be deported. And my brutal first thoughts are that getting deported is better than the concentration camps. Damn these kids are DACA kids, most have never even been back to where ever “home” is. This is so sad, and incomprehensible….
There will be camps.
Texas offered land for their state to build

I’m a veteran, as is my hubby, and we are worried about the Trump wholesale of VA care. Our community hospitals are already understaffed, they definitely won’t be able to handle overflow from VA patients. Our care has already suffered from the last time his buddies decided to contract care off campus. Things were just starting to get better…🤦🏽♀️
If you’re a vet, and get your care thru the VA? Get everything scheduled asap.
I understand you. I get out in February of 2025. I’m already stuck in a backlog of medical claims, even though I’m on the top of the list. I wasn’t excited about using the VA health system but now I’m scared we’ll lose all our benefits.
I have had really great care through the Northern California VA system. Once you’re in, they are on it. Be your own best advocate until you get what you need.
Take care of you.
Peace✌🏼🇺🇸
My LGBTQIA+ kid and his trans boyfriend are understandably worried right now, and all we've been able to do is reassure them that we are here, we love them, we will continue to support them, and we love them. We love them a lot. I've also made sure to have "the talk," that when, not if, they experience harassment, they can always come to us. They can talk to us, they can rely on us to support them in any way we can. I really don't know what else to do in a concrete way right now. I'm writing this in case anyone else is looking for ideas for how to support their loved ones.

Agreed. The only thing I'll add is go ahead and get a concealed carry permit, not just a gun permit. Some folks don't know there's a difference. 💙
Just having the knowledge of what you CAN handle is HUGE! Ty for providing sound and safe advice👍🏼☮️
That's one of the worst things about the Hobby Lobby case; they believe IUDs *ARE* abortions (because the egg is already fertilized, but you're not letting it implant & create a pregnancy).🤯
And the case wasn't just for them to not provide birth control, but also for them to not sign the waiver saying it was against their religious beliefs (with a signed waiver, the employee could get it covered by Obamacare at no cost to Hobby Lobby, but Hobby Lobby didn't want to do **anything** that assisted in any way to get birth control... and they won!).
So, yes, get IUDs now while they're still legal (before SCOTUS overrules Griswold v Connecticut, as Clarence Thomas indicated in Dobbs that they should)!

When I learned that Donald had won the 2016 election against Hillary a sense of impending doom came over me and I seriously asked myself whether I should buy a gun. That he was elected despite the Access Hollywood tape was enough to convince me that the world had changed and we were headed into a period of lawlessness.
