I've been telling people this for years! My eye opening moment was last year after they had an earnings call. He was on CNBC being interviewed. The reporter was trying to get insight on what his plan was to now start marketing Tesla. How he was going to implement it. Elon said I don't know yet, I just came up with that on the spot. Reporter: So you don't have a team working on it? You just told investors this is your new plan. Elon: I just felt like that's what they wanted to hear. Talk about bullshit! This last earnings call he knew the numbers were going to be really bad. So he threw investors a unrealistic bone. I own a tesla and have FSD. We are literally years away from anything close to full autonomy. Yet Elon throws out screen shots of a Tesla ride share app. Says within a year us Tesla owners will be able to send our cars to do rideshare without us in it. He is so ridiculous!
Sadly, most tech CEOs (and their sales and marketing depts) routinely overpromise and underdeliver.
Here's the thing: folks say this pay package is for Elon's 2018 achievements, why didn't he asked for it in 2019, 2020, 2021, hell even 2022, but only bring this up in 2024? Please help me to understand.
And how did marketing in the end worked for him? ;)

To be honest, SpaceX is a far better space contractor than say Boeing or Lockheed. Boeing got more money than SpaceX for the resupply missions and has not yet launch any single spacecraft (the first one should go to the ISS this month, after 7 years of delay).
Are you the lone voice of reason? Remember, in this companionship, emotions are way more valuable than facts.
Boeing especially isn't the company it once was.
Yeah, they were off the mark with SpaceX (except for pointing out that most of their success isn't down to Elon Musk's "genius"). True, they're only still around because of government contracts but they've still largely delivered on those contracts. Spaceflight is difficult and hugely expensive, as a _purely_ private enterprise it's basically a non-starter right now.
(I say in another comment that all the stuff about "rockets blowing up" etc. just makes it seem like they don't know what they're talking about unfortunately - yes, when you're testing prototype rockets they tend to blow up. T'was ever thus :)

Shatterproof side-windows on a car are not a desirable feature in an emergency. Most civilian car side-windows are made to be able to shatter in case someone is trapped due to a jammed door.
Also, super stiff non-crumple autobodies are unsafe because instead of absorbing and dissipating impact energy, they transfer it to the passengers and other vehicle.

I'm not an Elon fan but to say he's simply just the guy who benefits the most financially is not true. He tells the engineers what to research and build and has final say on where money goes. He is involved in running the company. He doesn't need to be an engineer to have good ideas and hire people with the right skills to make it happen.

Sure, Elon is an obnoxious person but to say he is just a self promoter demonstrates that you have absolutely no idea of his engineering achievements. I am an engineer and without doubt his achievements are nothing short of breathtaking. Every rocket expert since the 1950s was saying that it was impossible to build a reusable rocket and they had the calculations to prove it. But he sidestepped their theories with a whole new take on rocket design. The result is that Starship will transport huge loads to space at less than half of one percent of the cost of NASA doing the same job. His Raptor rocket engine is easily the most advanced rocket engine ever built. Sure he has a team working on the development but its his vision that has kept them focussed on a seemingly impossible goal. And that has proved massively successful. His idea to build rockets out of stainless steel was revolutionary. Initally his design team opposed the idea but he pushed ahead and within a few months they agreed.
He's from a bloodline family. Everything has been given to him.
That's what losers say.

See buddy I was a big fan of Musk many years ago, but not such a big fan that I stopped looking at things he did, said, and fibbed about objectively. Meaning because I didn't buy into the cult, or tie a part of my self-image to being an Elon supporter I was able to see and be disappointed.

Except that Mars is a total fantasy. There are so many scientific reasons Mars colonization cannot happen.

Suffice it to say that our bodies couldn't sustain it..
a. We evolved in 1G, anything more or less would mean our organs wouldn't function properly.
b. Once out of earths magnetosphere, we would be surrounded by deadly Cosmic radiation. The shielding need to protect 360 degrees. i.e., 1.2 meters of metal, no windows.
c. Everything needed would have to ex earth.
d. currently, astronauts (in the magnetosphere) need strenuous exercise 4-6 hrs a day.
e. All that by the number of people to be gotten into space weight, volume, energy times $XXX trillions!!!
f. the idea that XX tourists could psychologically survive is problematic.

It would be funnier they had just dressed up cars from another manufacturer to do that rather than bought and wrecked a bunch of Tesla's, thus enriching Tesla and giving them free advertising to boot.

Yes, this is true. It happened early last week I believe, and is just another in a long line of random firings he’s been behind. Many years ago he fired an administrative assistant the day she returned to work from vacation. She told him all the improvements she made and how it will get him data he needs faster. He fired her on the spot because he apparently thought she was no longer useful.

Many multinationals do it due to technology automation, labour costs rising in a certain region, thus making them unviable, energy costs. Car companies, telecommunications, airlines, banks have all cut and still run. It is sad for the workers, of course.

They said because the standards have changed he now qualified for a minor in physics which, even if true I didn't know was a thing universities did, retroactively award minors, but... if you donate enough cash money, why not? Also, Elund used to constantly claim he was accepted into Stanford's PhD program for physics... however, this is extremely unlikely to be true... Stanford's program is extremely competitive and would not consider accepting someone who didn't even have a minor in physics at the time. It just wouldn't have happened, it doesn't make sense for them to waste a coveted spot on someone without even an undergraduate in physics, it's an absurd lie on Elund's behalf.

I’m not convinced that electric cars do anything to reduce CO2 or any otter emissions Renewables still produce a tiny fraction of the electricity in this country. You can burn the gasoline or diesel as you drive or burn the coal or natural gas elsewhere to charge your car. More mass transit is the solution that makes sense. The “non-negotiable American way of life” will be steadily eroded by rising fuel prices.

Now Ebay sucks just as PayPal sucks. I think they are having fake customers buy expensive items. You ship out the items and the fake customers keep you nightly expensive item and the money they used gets refunded. Then Ebay sells that item stolen from the seller for some money. Ebay didn’t used to be a scam like this. This happens a lot. The customers don’t even provide valid photos of the items. Ebay lets the buyers steal. Only way they don’t even require for the customers to return the item. The money and the item is still in their possession! Wish they get a lawsuit over this scammer practice someday. No other selling site allows this sort of stealing.

One small correction: technically, Musk never worked for a company called PayPal. The company's name was Confinity back in the day, their product was Paypal. The name was changed to Payal shortly after Musk got fired, the paperwork for this sack was already Musk - Paypal paperwork. The only reason why Musk can until today claim he was one of teh founders of Paypal is simply due to the reason, that in the agreements between Musk and Paypal there is a paragraph that Musk has the right to call himself founder of Paypal and Paypal will never give any statements to their own founding history. That is also the reason why unlike almost any other company on earth, you will not find a history-page on Paypal's own website.
