Correction: many people in North Carolina had no warning. There was a separate storm system before the Hurricane that took out cell service and Wi-Fi for DAYS before Helene came. So many of the Emergency Alerts and Evacuation Orders were not received. People woke up between 11pm and 3am to their houses filling with water or walls collapsing. And the ppl blame the ones actually doing help on the ground. It’s NC fault. Stop the hate or jealousy issues. I don’t blame ppl that stopped helping in NC either. I live in PA now I have lived in NC and CA. I see what you ppl go through in red state. It’s sad. Well over time these ppl get smarter and change the government and way of viewing other humans who don’t live the way they do.
Saw several people on Facebook saying north Carolina only got $750 for aid, then said how do you rebuild a home with that? The government isnt going to rebuild your home, thats why you buy insurance. The problem now is insurance fleeing areas or going belly up and getting a government handout when they dont have the funds to pay out.
I think the biggest issue is that the insurance companies have been lulled into complacency by the sky-high profit margins during the good decades, now that they have WORSE profits it's 'not worth their time' to insure huge swathes of the country. The big insurance companies are pretty corrupt IMHO, be they health or whatever.
@@mightyone3737 I genuinely think that insurance as a whole should be controlled by the government. As "trustworthy" as it is, there is still more to be gained I think. Like I'm not a big fan of the police, but they have an obligation and a duty to help you when you call. Insurance should probably be treated the same if it's just gonna be tax dollars bailing them out when they don't have the funds.
You cannot connect money to disaster and trauma. Insurance is dumb for a giant disaster....great if it is just your house that catches on fire. Much like health care, human basic needs are integral after a disaster. You cannot rebuild your life after a natural disaster without assistance from the government. Just like you cannot get healthcare without assistance from the government. There is a reason we have a government and it is to mobilize efforts toward human functioning. The government needs to understand humans.... to do the job well ....and sadly..... we have a giant man baby and his man baby wife ruling America. They want the peasants to burn. The system is too corrupt now and civil war must occur for anything to change.
Every disaster is unique and separate. Disaster victims should never be compared to another. Wealth should be a consideration on aid, the poorer you are the more aid you should get while Paris Hilton can eat it.
I love this conversation. But I will say having lived in Houston most of my life everyone says to us, "that's what you get for living there..." So I have a ton of empathy but the bastards come out of the woodwork every disaster...
Hey there all good human beings of California!! I'm impressed and weepy. I can't help, but I sent warm fuzzies and positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.
My deepest sympathy to all affective. On the other hand, I am so discusted with republicans who want to hold up or deny emergency aid because the forest wasn't raked. They are butt holes 🤬.
Please understand our frustration with our leadership. We have given billions & billions & it isn’t getting better. Some things are inexcusable. There should have been water in the reservoirs. It couldn’t have stopped it completely but it would have saved homes. Don’t let the media spin on republicans “holding back aid” turn into they hate CA- what we want & they want is for our leadership to stop wasting & stealing $ & actually do something to stop this. Remember- we have $28 billion dollars in missing homeless $ & more homeless than ever. Try not to buy into the media’s spin, & just listen to the people, ur fellow Americans. They have a right to be mad
I'd like to join in on the Zillow research for rent price gouging. That's a brilliant idea! I don't live in the state but I'm pretty decent at research.
Wealthy people can be wealthy forever but they spend too much money on things they rarely use. I have 2 feet and not 20 feet so I only need a pair a shoes and not 20 or more shoes. I only occupy 1 room at a time so I don't need a house with 20 empty rooms like rich people do. How much junk do rich people have that they never even use? I can make my own sandwich and pay less than a dollar to make it while a rich person will drop several hundreds on a sandwich at some fancy restaurant. Give me a fucking break. It is well known that Rich people waste more and are the reason why Global Warming and world hunger exists today. I am sure I will get a lot of rich angry trolls commenting on my observation which has already been published in peer reviewed literature. Come on guys. The California wildfires are not the only wildfires that has taken out neighborhoods. It's only getting so much attention because it involved the lives of rich people.
I have several pairs of footwear, I have work boots, general outdoors shoes, work boots for 'really dirty stuff', Wellington boots, and dress shoes. They each have their use. The issue isn't having 20 pairs of shoes, it's having 20 pairs of shoes that all do the same thing. Also, women need different shoes for different outfits, I'm a man so I don't need many pairs, but a woman can easily have a dozen pairs because they need several different colours/styles of dress shoes for different kinds of events. It's not fair but that's patriarchy!
I lived in California for about 10 years. In Washington, we have forest fires that are terrible and burn lots of fuel. In California, the wildfires are burning grass fueled by 80 mile per hour winds. The firestorms these create are awe inspiring.
Rich people may buy expensive items but they don't put a dent in their overall wealth. Lately, when out and about, I will be tempted to stop and buy a coffee, usually at Mc Donalds, for a $1. And then I realize if I just go home, I can make a better cup of coffee for pennies. We are comfortably retired and carefully watch what we spend. We suffered some very lean years in the past.
Too bad this effort to help each other now was never this strong to help the poor and homeless who have been in a living hell forever. I doubt many care about them now
My dad and I are on the spectrum. Both verbal. He's undiagnosed. When I was 20 I caught stomatitis and couldn't speak for two weeks because of sores in my mouth throat and esophagus. We were always closer than he is with my siblings but we have called each other on different land lines in different cities at the same time. I am so excited to listen to the podcast Michaela
"John Abatzoglou, a professor of climatology at the University of California, Merced, has analyzed three decades of fire data from Los Angeles County. His research shows that most fires in the area are caused by human activity, NBC News reports. - More than 95% of these are human-ignited fires. Arson is among the causes, but most human-caused fires are not intentional, Abatzoglou explains. According to his analysis, vehicles and other equipment are the most common causes of fires in the area between 1992 and 2020. Sparks from faulty machinery or heat from engines can quickly ignite dry vegetation, especially during the hot and dry months of summer."
Somebody should make playlists of songs you can play to help fire victims who are not the children of wealthy families and also historically the very worst people I've ever seen on TV.
I haven't bought much new in the last decade... I have a couple of good thrftl stores and find a great selection of stuff. Just buy socks, underwear and shoes... I get good wool socks and invest in good shoes because I work in a grocery store, always cold and those floors are hard, so good shoes are a must. Take care of your feet, and they will take care of you. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.
Please do not call autistic communication telepathy. I find that insensitive and misinformed as an autistic mother. They do go to school and take in the world around them all the time. Any mother can tell what their kid needs. That is not telepathy.
No buy groups exist no money gets exchanged you don't have to trade you belong to one and you can offer things and people from your group reach out if they want something
People are showing exactly as much sympathy for the rich and famous as they are generally shown. If you're upset that it's none, you are late to an argument.
@ I don’t believe that. That would be why I didn’t say “Californians.” My derision is reserved for the people whose indifference exacerbated this and those whose wealth will insulate them. There are plenty of them. I’m also resigned to the loss of a city the media class cares about before something is done. I thought it would have been Miami or Houston, but it might as well be LA. I don’t want any of this to happen, but what the f$:) does my preference matter?
Now they can plan for more or larger pumps and more water towers to help with gravity flow of water, there water system was already robust, but no one could have foreseen such widespread fires and hurricane force winds
Michaela is awesome - you all get the heart of life! Please normalize the gift economy! Appreciated your coverage from the toxic wildfires. Hearing how people have come together is heartening but the divisive Russian propaganda is a sober reminder of the treacherous world we live in. It was really cool people are providing things people wanted and reproducing toys children lost - that’s very empathic. Erin is a “Karen for the force for good”. I’d never call you a “Karen” but appreciate that you brought attention to price gouging and the need to protect victims from this as much as looters. I need to read Octavia Butler’s “Parable of the Sower”.
It's not kind but not cruel to say that people who at this late date are offered masks and the rational explanation of WHY they should be used are earning whatever the consequences are for them when they don't use one. Choice without consequences can not always be guaranteed. Neither can a good outcome.
I read parable of the sower a few years ago and when I think she didn't mention is that they have a conservative Christian president or presidential candidate whose slogan was "Make America Great Again". I thought that was a little on the nose so I looked up when the book was published and it was two decades before Trump even got into politics. Just shows how basic and predictable his playbook is.
What would we do if Cali secedes... 😂 I'm pretty sure Trump would still be on about invading Canada, Mexico and Greenland... we'd probably be up 2 states if you were in the East or something & 3 if he grabbed Panamanian territories for shizzy and lunatics' rizzy with unpredictability!
Ladies, not sure if you've covered it. You may have but I'm new to your platform. Talking about disaster in LA reminded me of the hurricanes in Florida last year and Trumps Gofundme page. Regarding the allocation of funds from the GoFundMe campaign authorized by former President Donald Trump for Hurricane Helene relief, particularly about the transparency of fund distribution and potential personal benefit. Seems there's not much info on the recipients of the funds. I did find 100000 to some dodgy church Samaritan's Purse which is run buy an associate of Trumps - Franklin Graham's, who incidentally earned nearly a million off his "nonprofit" - guess you don't need profits if you're paying yourself so well. Either way, in the height of all the misinformation and lies about California, let's have some info on how Trump was forced to pay more than $2 million in court-ordered damages to eight different charities for illegally misusing charitable funds at the Trump Foundation years ago and how we now have a gofundme page from which specific details regarding the distribution of these funds to various organizations have not been publicly disclosed.
Newsome and Pelosi weren't on TV, they weren't born into wealth, they didn't have access to millions at the age of 18, and their wealth (a lot of it dirty money) is still not nearly the amount that Trump has, nor do they have the pull Trump has because they aren't cozying up to tech billionaires and threatening media companies and forcing them to heel. While I think there's some government incest happening, it's not apples to apples. Trump is a fascist dictator and you likely voted for that. Congrats, your guy won. Enjoy your cheap eggs.
DJT is also, supposedly, a billionaire who could send money of his own. Will he? Highly doubtful because in his small mind he will never have enough. He released a new " crypto meme" yesterday that is breaking securites laws. He is less than 48 hours away from president and continues to grift from his supporters.

Well over time these ppl get smarter and change the government and way of viewing other humans who don’t live the way they do.
I love that you did that with your daughter. it brought back memories of my kids going through their toys after Catrina.
Symptom of a bigger issue, that nobody wants to deal with
CLIMATE CHANGE
@@mightyone3737 I genuinely think that insurance as a whole should be controlled by the government. As "trustworthy" as it is, there is still more to be gained I think. Like I'm not a big fan of the police, but they have an obligation and a duty to help you when you call. Insurance should probably be treated the same if it's just gonna be tax dollars bailing them out when they don't have the funds.
I have a friend who lives near the fires. Almost everyone got policy cancellations a couple days into the fires.
Absolutely! Everyone in California could rake full time all year and there'd still be nature debris all over the place. Its a ridiculous "argument".
@@mommar4858zi think some 65% is FederalLand Bureau.. they are culpable... no one mentions it
Ladies, thank you for doing this!
I'd like to join in on the Zillow research for rent price gouging. That's a brilliant idea! I don't live in the state but I'm pretty decent at research.
@34:32 And some of the CA residents are finding out the insurance companies dropped them. I have upped my depression medication because life, life.
Can you put a link to the information about nonverbal skills?
Rich people may buy expensive items but they don't put a dent in their overall wealth. Lately, when out and about, I will be tempted to stop and buy a coffee, usually at Mc Donalds, for a $1. And then I realize if I just go home, I can make a better cup of coffee for pennies. We are comfortably retired and carefully watch what we spend. We suffered some very lean years in the past.
Agree 💯 🙏⚖️🇺🇸🌎
Too bad this effort to help each other now was never this strong to help the poor and homeless who have been in a living hell forever. I doubt many care about them now
I'm now obsessed with The Telepathy Tapes, thank you, Michaela!
I am so excited to listen to the podcast Michaela
should design & sell "FU Felon-in-chief ` Smokey the CA Bear" T-shirts to fund fire recovery efforts :V
"Somewhere, someone lied. Don't you care about your sons and daughters?"
Leighton Meester's album Heartstrings is lovely, I have a physical copy but I'll steam it today.
Imagine having voted for The Orange One AND then losing everything in the FIRE.
Erin, they’re not trying to trigger the survivors. They’re trying to trigger people like you and us 😕
"John Abatzoglou, a professor of climatology at the University of California, Merced, has analyzed three decades of fire data from Los Angeles County.
Tell that to the unintelligible, greedy.
Somebody should make playlists of songs you can play to help fire victims who are not the children of wealthy families and also historically the very worst people I've ever seen on TV.
Insurance adjuster found out the true meaning of karma
I listened to an episode of Telepathy Tapes and it made me bawl!
Wonderful ladies, why don't we go on buyers strike on things we don't need. Please share your thoughts
Wow! How wonderful. I was in a wildfire in 2007, all I got was a bottle of water. Got to go back 13 days later.
'we are all vulnerable to climate change...' - exactly.
Thinking of all who have been affected, xx from Australia
I love seeing women aging beautiful. Love Michaela since Casual. The hair and the glasses, perfecto.
Please do not call autistic communication telepathy. I find that insensitive and misinformed as an autistic mother. They do go to school and take in the world around them all the time. Any mother can tell what their kid needs. That is not telepathy.
Telepathy? I heard empathy which fits, but I guess I missed the telepathy rant.
@I wish it was about empathy.
Ahhhh - so the insurance adjusters's bad Karma IS GONNA GET HER - only if the boss cares.
LUIGI!!!
Erin needs to understand that it's not the police who go after price gouging. It's the DA's office.
The privilege this entire episode is couched in is insane
No buy groups exist no money gets exchanged you don't have to trade you belong to one and you can offer things and people from your group reach out if they want something
No fires in bel air, Beverly hills, Hollywood hills, laurel canyon etc 😂😂😂
2nd the Acupuncture!! My little Chinese guy said...' now I give you pepperoni back!' I did it for sinuses too!
"I feel like I'm giving colonoscopies" such a great way to put it
People are showing exactly as much sympathy for the rich and famous as they are generally shown. If you're upset that it's none, you are late to an argument.
But most of Hollywood isn't the one percent... Those sentiments are empty... We are letting people suffer because we think they all have it good.
I can guess who you voted for
@ I doubt it.
Everyone in LA is NOT "rich & famous"--and if you belevee that, you're not only lacking intelligence but, human empathy.
Time to channel the shame nun from Game of Thrones.
California should MERGE WITH CANADA ...lol
What will we do with all the free healthcare?
The last 20 minutes was absolute nonsense 😂
Women!!!
"We are a town full of empaths" lmaooo. The absolute hypocrisy and disconnectedness of everything she said was wild
I'd have been more sympathetic if she said we are a town full of trivial, preening, attention wh@res, but we're trying to help each other.🙄
This is going to happen again and again, etc
Alyssa is sooooo 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Mumps trumpmusk must send billions 💰 asap no conditions to Los Angeles. Not give it to his wealthy Billionaire mates or corrupt corporations
It's not kind but not cruel to say that people who at this late date are offered masks and the rational explanation of WHY they should be used are earning whatever the consequences are for them when they don't use one. Choice without consequences can not always be guaranteed. Neither can a good outcome.
Alyssa needs to try NeilMed saline rince.
Not the telepathy tapes 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ y’all need to leave them kids be
What would we do if Cali secedes...
😂
I'm pretty sure Trump would still be on about invading Canada, Mexico and Greenland... we'd probably be up 2 states if you were in the East or something & 3 if he grabbed Panamanian territories for shizzy and lunatics' rizzy with unpredictability!
Frivolous people that don't want to understand. Little feel good stories... A chocolateer,a little girl prospevtive FEMA director...
Bla bla bla 🤮
I can't afford a hotel, let alone with lots of pets.
Send a bit of money each month to wck.
The US has lost a city without Putin firing a shot...
You know he’s the wizard of oz behind the curtain just lol
Watch Steve Guttenberg movies!!! police academy marathon. he is a helper
Donations of makeup 🤣🤣🤣 wow
One year for Christmas we gave each other things from our home we had noticed they liked. It was wonderful. No children were hurt 😅
Horrible tragedy, nobody deserves this, but I wouldn’t describe LA as a town of empaths.
Creatives seem to hv more than "normal" share of empaths.
Reminder to everyone: djt is a celebrity.
So is Newsome and Pelosi and ANYONE who has a following and is known. So what?
@annabellelee4535 for people who "hate the rich celebrities", they sure do like republican ones.
@@annabellelee4535Did Pelosi or Gavin Newsome star in movies and tv shows? Do they have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame?
I have family in Pacific Palisades. They're quite well off, and are staying in the bay area, hopefully they still have a home to return to.
Anything and everything brings out the best and worst and definitely leans towards worst now days thanks to the internet and pc warriors in their mom's basement 😂
Whoa!! Somebody got they hair did! ....and put on a bit more make-up than usual. (I mention the because its quite noticeable).

All humans are empaths, we all should FEEL what others feel.
Empaths? How charming.
It is *so gross* that you're shilling *colostrum!* Seriously.
Way to Alex Jones all over the end of the episode. If your goal is an informed electorate that believes in SCIENCE and votes for people who'll do things to prevent the planet catching on fire, maybe don't promote pseudo-science (ideally, not even for entertainment or advertising reasons). Hire a skeptic with science communication training for the whole of the Crooked ecosystem, I beg you.
YALL SERIOUSLY have a weird obsession with Russia. Like yall need help lol
In a world in which Scott Alexander and his AstralCodexTen blog exist, this shit just seems low brow.
Emoting MSNBC wine moms will never and should never be taken seriously.
MAGA watching FOX "News" shouldn't be taken seriously. Heard your CULT nonsense & bigotry for 9 years. ENOUGH!
But u probably take Orange seriously.
since Autism runs on my side of the family and I am a transmitter, I will be watching this since I find it so fascinating, and could also explain a few thingsthat I've seen and heard with some of my cousins:
