      Remember those sick hubs with the titanium centers? I had those on my trials bike way back when....sooooo good! It's probably not worth buying a Pro2 or Pro2 EVO unless they're really cheap as spares are getting hard to get. The Pro 4 should be supported for a while yet though. -Tristan

    Great video... I just got some hope pro 4 with a xd driver laced on my current wheel. Bike shop couldn't install the new sram gx cassette with the way the hub came. They said the hub end caps are wrong. Can you help me out on which end caps I should have, or does the bike shop just not know how to install it properly.

    • @WheelworksHandcraftedWheels
      @WheelworksHandcraftedWheels  2 года назад

      If these are new Pro4 hubs then the endcaps are the same between the XD and HG 36.8mm freehub bodies. On the Pro2 EVO and (i think) some of the early Pro4 the outside diameter of the endcap was smaller for the XD freehub but those endcaps haven't been produced for probably 6 years or so. If your hub is that old there is a chance you'll need a new endcap (Hope product code HUB471), otherwise I think it might be an issue with installation. -Tristan

      I've avoided the Brand X vs Brand Y videos for a couple of reasons...Frist, often a particular customer has a background with one of the companies and wants to buy them again. "I had Hope hubs on my 1998 GT and I loved them, I want some new ones" type request. Second, peoples needs are different and we often need to listen to those needs rather than just outline Brand X vs Brand Y.
      Have I got this wrong? Does RUclips want to see hub comparisons? -Tristan

    As you know, Hope Pro 2 Evo had two versions such as 24T(original) and 40T. I used to run 24T one and purchased 40T a few years later. Fortunately(or unfortunately), Hope started to sell Pro 4, and of course, I got it and rebuilt my wheelset.

    • @WheelworksHandcraftedWheels

      I've never removed the ratchet ring from a Hope hub as I've heard they use some sort of adhesive to hold them in place and they're really hard to get out. We used to remove the ratchet rings in Tune and White Ind hubs quite frequently, and of course do it all the time with DT hubs to access that driveside bearing. -Tristan

      It never ceases to amaze me how much impact the wholesaler / distributor has on a product. Good distributors turn average products into popular ones, and visa versa. Hope hubs are top notch so hopefully your access to them improves, although I know our NZ distributor is having longer lead times and increased costs since Covid. -Tristan

    Changing the spacers will not take the main advantage of boost though, the extra space between flanges making the wheel stiffer

    • @WheelworksHandcraftedWheels
      @WheelworksHandcraftedWheels  3 года назад +1

      Absolutely Juan! We often get asked to build wheels for people with a non-Boost bike but they want to plan ahead for when they get a new Boost frame or fork so for this the Pro4 is great. You won't get the full effect of Boost but you'll save heaps of money. -TT

    Hi, I have a Hope Pro 4 Rear Disc Hub 135mm Quick Release XD, (not EVO). I want to use it as a 142x12 through axle hub. Do I need endcaps? if so, which? Thank you !

    • @WheelworksHandcraftedWheels
      @WheelworksHandcraftedWheels  Год назад

      Most of the QR axles from this generation are only drilled for a 5mm QR and not a 12mm axle...so you'll likely need a new axle as well as bearings.
      Honestly, getting non-EVO Pro2 parts is tough now. The best option is probably to convert your hub to an EVO by installing a new EVO axle, endcaps, bearings, and freehub body. This is an expensive job, but the parts are available and it means you'll get some future life from it.
      If you're in NZ drop us a line and we can go through what you need, or do the conversion for you. -Tristan
