  • I searched RUclips for a video to help me learn how to attach the trickle charger eyelet connectors to a Mercedes car and there weren’t any, so I taught myself and made my own video.
    The trickle charger is a CTEK - 40-206 MXS 5.0 Fully Automatic 4.3 amp Battery Charger.

      The CTEK trickle charger will maintain the battery it's hooked to. A simple answer to trickle chargers working in freezing and sub freezing temperatures is yes. Canadians, Alaskans, the upper Midwest, all use one form or another of trickle chargers with vehicles exposed to extreme temps. All use any extension cord and a wired in place inside the engine bay, trickle charger or wall charger with alligator clips for occasional use. Even in an unheated garage, wall chargers work. They're designed to slow charge or top off a full charge as well as keeping the battery from freezing, slowing output known as the groaning starter.

    Thank you for the video but I still have questions. I have a 2012 SLK 350 Mercedes. I love my car but since it is a two seater it is not practical for an everyday day. I used it as an everyday car for 7 years but once I had grandkids, I needed a bigger car. Problem is I do not drive my Mercedes every day and weeks can go by before I drive it. However, I will not sell it. Someone told me about a trickle charger. I just had a new battery put in my car but not driving it for weeks will still cause battery to die.
    I want to put a trickle charger on but I need something that can stay attached to battery but can also remain in car. I can’t lift the hood n my own. I have been told that some trickle charges exist that can be unplugged externally and then plugged back in externally once I finish driving the car. Does such a battery minder exist? Thank you.

      Hopefully this information helps. You can purchase the same CTEK trickle charger and also purchase a 8.2 feet Battery Tender Extension cable here: www.amazon.com/CTEK-56-304-Comfort-Connect-Extension/dp/B00ADIHUVG/ref=sr_1_2?crid=329885A5HT742&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.4Pl4lJQ_ByOnSyOGp8dL7ZKX1rv1uTz4jIKb37eLyQ8dmApTBlmkLj6B8LFKLMOZOniQsa38aMeoIsILoyGeYFYvDCFW7TZa9WCvxJDdfl6_ueZdEkstm_8tmLnW_DkyteueC8gvgbD9JeaWXSNqr2bWbjqJHjoKJMdcn8t-gnh21h2GUhOvzTPcHq9aSVtCJzaoNg1MFNmTC5KuqPbZCXzS1xvu5I6F4ilsIOM5DBhhSTw7IA5YJIjTYXBP-AYARp76i9-7I1BKAVbusBaO-33IxPKBZPVY5qDS09mrGdI.kg6MO4NqpWWfvRSQbAN8zvLMR1dE9aT1Y5NKdbm6Yp4&dib_tag=se&keywords=CTEK+Comfort+Connect+Extension+Cable+-+CTEK+56-304&qid=1710708617&sprefix=ctek+comfort+connect+extension+cable+-+ctek+56-304%2Caps%2C93&sr=8-2
      With the extension cable, you can run the plug-in portion down to an area between the grill and find a way to secure it there to plug in and unplug your battery tender unit from an outlet.
      Hopefully this helps! Best of luck to you!!!

    Thanks for your helpful video. The bolt on the positive terminal seems to retain the nut. I was torqing hard on the socket wrench but stopped cause something didn’t feel right. This was on a 2012 MB GLK350. Any ideas?

      Thanks for the comment! My guess is you stripped the nut. You might have to purchase a new battery cable. Looks like they are around $110 dollars. www.autohausaz.com/pn/15281305-MB-0009052702?Mercedes&gclid=Cj0KCQjwy5maBhDdARIsAMxrkw3rYEDyrb6n7i6LdA4xT7oXcq8sHy97oskCQ0zuw9Q-_Ngg1OJ14LsaAiiUEALw_wcB

    should i purchase the mercedes benz trickle charger or will a trickle charger from walmart work just as well?

    • @GrayTrend
      @GrayTrend  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the comment! I believe a trickle charger from walmart will work similar to the Mercedes Benz trickle charger. Only thing I'd do if I went with a trickle charger from walmart is I'd do a little research on that particular brand and read reviews on it to see how others feel about the product. Best of luck to you! Appreciate that you watched the video!

    Why do some other technicians say not to clamp directly to the negative terminal?

    • @GrayTrend
      @GrayTrend  10 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for the comment! I'm not a certified engine technician but I've read that when you're attempting to jump start your car with a dead battery and attach the negative jumper cable to the negative terminal of the dead battery, it increases the risk of fire or explosion if the jump start doesn't go as planned. Best of luck to you!

    • @briangale6025

      @@GrayTrend Thanks for the reply 😊 Whenever I use my trickle charger in my GLC, it doesn't detect the battery when I clamp the negative jumper cable to a ground point. But if I clamp it directly to the negative terminal, it detects it and starts charging

    • @GrayTrend
      @GrayTrend  10 месяцев назад +1

      @@briangale6025 Yes, every trickle charger I've owned, I've attached directly to the battery terminals (positive and negative) and it's worked for me. They are great to have around when you need them. My 2008 Jaguar XK drew on the battery constantly and always needed to be trickle charged.
