I bought one of the CTEC 5.0 because my old battery charges both packed in. I'm glad I did because this piece of kit is fantastic. It even managed to get an old batter in a van up and running. I don't know how they managed to make these charges so good - technical wizardry. Thanks CTEC !!
thank you very informative I don't drive a lot so my battery does not stay fully charged and with the Ctek I don't have to worry. So easy to hook up and just forget while it does all the work. Never have to worry now and I am 82 years old and a female. If I can do it anyone can. Great product. I give this and A+ and more. Thank you CTEK
CTEK rules! I have two of your MUS4.0 models that I use for my car and riding lawn mower. Don't know what I'd do without them. Keep up the great work. I use the quick connect so I don't have to worry about using the clamps, so easy and safe! I also have the device that checks the cold cranking amps level.
I would’ve liked for a tutorial to actually demonstrate how to move through the modes, like how to select the different battery types and reconditioning modes, and when to use each one. This wasn’t so much a tutorial as it was a marketing video.

I like the charger. Since I bought the charger for my vehicles (Toyota, Honda, BMW and even Ford), none of the batteries on the vehicles has been replaced. I use the charger as trickle charger and also every 6 months or so I recondition the batteries using the charger.
I hooked up the CTEK 5.0 to the terminals under my bmw hood & the power lamp light starts flashing after a couple minutes indicating the charger can't connect to the battery...If I am unable to connect the charger directly to my battery in the trunk then how do I get the charger to read the battery? Would it help to jump start the car prior to hooking up the battery charger so it can read the battery? Any help greatly appreciated.
Hi, first you need to find out if the flashing light is due to poor contact or to the fact that the battery is discharged to more than 2V (the limit making the charger spark proof and reverse polarity protected) My suggestion is to connect to the recommended charge points (maybe this is what you have done) that will give you direct contact with the batter if the charger doesn't start anyway - then try to start and start and start a couple of times to see if you can force the voltage over the 2V l imit (A battery is empty at 11,5V).If the reason is poor connection, then you need to find a spot where it works. recommended charge points is the best. If you want to connect somewhere else - try to get the ringterminals mounted, positive directly to the positive pole on the battery and the negative to a unpainted part of chassis - then connect the charger and it would start. If this doesn't work - pleas contact info@ctek.com and we can discuss further. Best regards CTEK Support

I have two CTEK chargers. Although the warranty has run out, it is unacceptable for the mode switch to fail considering how infrequently that switch is used. Sorry but I am not impressed and apparently I am not the only one having seen a "fix" for it on RUclips.
Same issue, Mode buttons seem the be the weakness with these great chargers. I have also had 2 Ctek chargers and the mode buttons on both have failed, one outside of warranty and the other inside warranty. It’s a shame, but I am not sure I would buy another Ctek, as I do not want to be burnt a third time. Ctek please change the button or the component that continues to fail! Hi all, I'm hoping a CTEK charger can solve the battery problems I'm having with an infrequently driven vehicle. The issue is that the car is outside without access to a power source for the charger. Is it possible to use a portable power source to power the CTEK charger and, what would that be? The ideal scenario would be to charge thru the cig lighter and charge the the power source as needed - keeping everything in the vehicle, out of the elements and with no need to access the battery in the vehicle. Don't know if this is even feasible. Thanks in advance.
I have a question. My MXS 5 Test & Charge charger stays in bulk mode(in bike mode) for almost 6 hours when the sealed lead acid battery(14.2Ah) for alarm system that was being charge has around 12.1 volts in it. Is it okay for me to leave the charger? Or I shouldn’t be charging that type of battery using this charger? Please respond. Thank you!
It cant revive almost dead battery or too old battery. But it can revive to crank the starter. Add battery electrolyte and charge with it. You may get almost new battery condition. Remember it also depends on your battery's condition. And CTEK's Pulse repairing mode will work only at step 1. So if you want forced pulse repairing mode, buy some Chinese cheap charger. They can select pulse repairing mode.
HI, Idon't know what you mean with "pulse reparining mode" but if you refering to our desulphation step, it will work as soon as the charger find sulphation - as this will cause inner resistance. To expose a battery without sulphate problems to rapid pulses of high voltage and current will most likely not help, just causing higher gassing than needed - loss of water that you can't replace in today's closed batteries. Best regards CTEK Support
@@CTEKBatteryChargers I mean your desulphation mode will work only at step 1. Forced desulphatation mode will help to revive the battery. But CTEK does not have this function. Adding battery acid also help to revive the CCA in my case. But not for all battery.
@@jameswan670 Hi. RECOND mode will help stratified batteries to gain capacity again, this is an optional mode and should only be used on wet lead acid batteries once or twice a year. Best regards CTEK Support
Hi, no, RECOND is a separate step. I am a bit curious about what you refer to, that should be active in all steps and revive the batteries. Do you have a link to share? Best regards CTEK Support
I bought and returned one of your competitor's products. It works with a variety of batteries much like yours, but only "reconditions" one type of battery - the 12 volt flooded lead acid. This wasn't disclosed to me until I read the included user guide after I bought their product. I need to recondition an AGM battery. Does your product recondition AGM batteries? Edit: I see someone else had a similar question and the answer is reconditioning and AGM are not intended to be paired together. As battery specialists, what other technology can be used to restore or repair an AGM battery?
Hi, We usually don't recommend to RECOND an AGM battery. I will try to explain why. The electrolyte in all types of lead acid batteries are made of sulfuric acid and water, the have different density. And as we all now, heavy things falls down. Acid "falls" faster than water so there will be layers of thick acid in the bottom of the battery. This is what we call stratification. This will - by the law of physics - happen to all batteries where the electrolyte flows freely within the vessel. RECOND will, with high voltage, make the electrolyte to bubble and those bubbles will mix the electrolyte. GEL batteries and AGM batteries are lead acid batteries - but they do not have the electrolyte flowing freely within the vessel. In the AGM battery the electrolyte is soaked in an Absorbing Glass Matt and there will be no stratification! GEL batteries will be harmed by the high voltage, but I will say no more about GEL batteries for now. AGM batteries does not get harmed, but they do not benify from the high voltage either. OK - here is a tricky part. Some battery experts states that old AGMs get a "coating" on the plates that actually can disappear when using RECOND, So using RECOND on an older AGM might improve the capacity. So CTEK recomendation, do not use RECOND on an AGM unless it is old and looses capacity, of so, using RECOND can help. This was a very long answer, but I hope it explained why we don't recommend using RECOND on AGMs. Best regards CTEK Support

hi, i just got this charger and i have few questions. 1) from what ive read around (including one of your answers) AGM+recond is useless. So why its possible to select this combo mode? 2) If i have a agm battery should i use this mode or not? in older instructions manual (italian version is still year 2013), agm is described like "use it for charging in low temperature conditions and for agm batteries (operative range is from -20°C to +5°, that automatically discards this mode at standard temperatures). The new instruction manual says only "use it for agm batteries" and the operative range is the same like other modes (-20 to +50). So what happened? The manual was corrected, or the charger was updated (and the manual was updated within it)? thanks
Hi, thank you for choosing CTEK! You are right! There are no really gain in using RECOND on an AGM mode - but it does not harm the battery. SOme battery manufacturers recommend a higher voltage from time to time - so we made that as an option. My recommendation is not to use it on an AGM battery as long as your battery manufacturer does not recommend you to. Using tyhe AGM mode will give you a higher voltage to start with. If you look into the CTEK charge curve you can see that the voltage is kept as low as possible for as long time as possible - but when you reach 80% of fully charged up to 100% of fully charged the voltage is 14,4V - 14,7V in AGM mode . The MXS 5.0 also have a temperature compensation changing the voltage in order to make sure the battery gets fully charged a bit faster in cold temperatures and lower the voltage in warmer temperatures in order not to dry out the electrolyte. The range (-20 to +50) is something else. That is what the charger is made to manage in temperatures. I hope this will give you more info. 1:47 When "green led number 7" is illuminated, the charger is still delivering 13.5 volts of charge (I measured it on my device)... I don't know if it is a good idea to leave a battery permanently connected to 13.5V?
Hi, The 13,6V (or 13,5V) will be active for 10 days to keep the battery in 100% state of charge. But you are right - to keep the battery on constant voltage - even if it is as low as 13,6, will risk dry out the electrolyte. So after 10 days the charger turns off, and will only give a pulse whenever the battery needs it. ( voltage drops to 95% of fully charged) I hope this explains. Best regards CTEK Support

HI, this is a very common issue. The flashing power led (after two minutes)n tells you there is no contact between the battery and the charger or that the battery is discharged to more than 2V. That is the limit when the charger starts. The limit is needed to make the charger spark proof and reverse polarity protected. To measure between the clamps will give you 0V as there is no battery connected. Try again - make sure you have good connection between the battery (recommended charge points) and the charger. If battery voltage is higher than 2V the charger should start. Good Luck. CTEK Support

@@josemiguelpolo Hi, if the battery has gone empty over night, it can be possible to get the battery to work fine again, but if the battery has been empty months and months before you try to charge it - then the battery is most likely in so poor condition that it need to be replaced. The battery charge is too low for the CTEK to detect anything is connected. You might need to connect the battery to another battery to bump up the charger start voltage. You can then disconnect the second battery and the CTEK should continue charging the dead battery.

I have owned a MXS 5.0 for around 10yrs and now the mode button wont cycle through modes. I will try the fix for the button in a few days as it is stuck on RECOND and when it gets to 5 it then comes up with the red light error. Battery is a 9 month old new battery that was just left in one of my cars to go flat over 5 months. I used a battery booster to get the battery up to 12.2V and the Ctek under RECOND still stops at 5 and the red error light comes on all the time (my multimeter was connected and had the battery over 12V the whole way through the test. Hopefully when I fix the mode button I can use the 'charge" mode and see what happens.
Hi! First of all, RECOND should only be used once or twice a year and not every time you charge the battery. Also, we do not recommend you to manually "fix" the charger if it is broken. Now, when it comes to the error light appearing on step 5, it means that the battery is failing the analyse phase, as it cannot hold a charge. It could be because there are parallel loads connected that need a higher current than what the battery can provide. Please disconnect as many parallel loads as possible and try again. If the error light still lights up at step 5, please have the battery tested as it may be broken and in need of replacement.
Been using my new MSX 5. Its gone through all the charging stages with no problems. Its now on step seven. I've noticed a very feint fizzing noise coming from my battery. I have to press my ear right up to the battery to hear it. Is this normal?
Hi. When the battery is fully charged and in float maintenance (step 7) the constant voltage will make the electrolyte "boile" very slow, as the bubbles in a soft drink, this is normal. If you experience a heavy bubbling as boiling water on fully heat - then it could be a sign that the battery suffers from a broken cell. In that case the battery will turn warm. Please discharge the charger directly and get the battery tested. But the feint fizzing is a sign of a healthy battery. Hope this will help. Best regards CTEK Support

The Only bad thing I can say about this Ctek MX 5.0 is that the charger heats up alot, I don't know if that's normal and safe. Perhaps it should of have a built in mini fan to keep the charger cool.
My older version (2007 ish) gets hot too so I guess they just work that way. If they put the fan inside it has to get cooler air from the outside which makes it impossible to maintain the IP67 rating.
Does this device pause charging when battery is 100% charged and resume charging when charge drops again ? Or it just keeps charging the battery even if the battery is fully charged ?

I have a MXS 5.0 and have a strange issue. After I connect the MXS 5.0 to a small 12v AGM battery (Universal UB12220 12V 22Ah) for charging using the Small Battery Program and AGM option, it starts charging first at step one then step two. Sometime later, the error light will come on while still in step two and stop charging. Then, I unplug the charger from the 110 volt wall socket, not touching either of cables attached to the battery, wait for all the lights to go out, and the plug it back into the wall socket, the charger resumes charging the battery without any issues. I have had it occur on two separate batteries multiple times. The user manual indicates that the battery may need to be replaced but both batteries are less than one year old, used only several times each month and never have been heavily discharged. Restarting the charging process allows the batteries to be charged fully. Sort of an annoyance when charging overnight and I find it stopped mid charge. So what is going on and how do I prevent it from stopping mid-charge?
Hi, Thank you for a very good explanation. Theoretically, when the red "!" mark goes on together with the two first charging lights it means that the charger is not able to raise the voltage to a certain level within a certain time. That is what triggers the "!" mark to light up. There could be several reasons to this. 1 - the battery is big and very drained, so time is not enough. 2. There are many consumers active whilst charging taking power from the battery/charger preventing the battery from reaching the specified level. 3, the battery is in poor condition and might need to be tested and perhaps exchanged. As the red "!" goes on the first time - but not the second time, I guess it is mix of 1 and or 2. My recommendation is to charge a bit more often and if the red "!" goes on again - please get the battery tested. Even if it is only a year old, it can be damaged. I hope this helps. @@CTEKBatteryChargers Hello once again! No, that's not enough praise for your high quality product. I've been using it for many years and it has saved me a lot of money on original Mercedes-Benz batteries. I am quite happy and grateful. This car in particular is driven very little, that's why I use the charger frequently. Mine is a MUS 4.3 Test n Charge (1077). I have been trying to understand what's going on, and I would say that given that the charger now is a lot less hot, just like it gets when at stage 7 it would be, maybe it's just only the light that has a problem. I could try charging other battery to see its behavior there. That's my superficial take on it, because I do get the battery charged afterall. What do you say CTEK?
Hi. Thank you for informing me about the model, that makes it a whole lot easier to answer your questions. A short explanation. step 3 and for - thats te actual charge, the longer step 4 takes - the better the battery. Step 5 is a check to see if the battery is OK - 3 minutes - not longer. step 6 RECOND will only be active if you, as the user, are chosing RECOND by pressing the mode button. RECOND can take up to 4 hours if the battery need that. After Recond light 7 and 8 are green - maintenance. Step 7 active for 10 days, step 8 until you disconnect the charger or the battery needs more charge. My guess is that you have choosen RECOND and for that reason step 6 is lit, but not step 7. OR you are looking at the charger in quite bright light so all the orange lights is visual, but the green one does not appere lit, they are - but in bright light it is sometime hard to see. I kindly ask you to check if this can be the case with your charger, if not please contact us again. Best regards CTEK Support
@@CTEKBatteryChargers yes, after many years using it, I am quite familiar with all that of course. None of them is the case here, hence my question. The battery gets recharged and the behavior of the charger was weird in that sense, because of the light 7 missing, but given that the charger now is with the same temperature as when it was when the stage 7 light was on, and after many hours of charging indeed, then I would say that is just that light failing. It's just my guess of course. I'm going to wait on your answer, and later on in the week, use the charger with another battery to see if light number 7 eventually turns on again. Take care.
Hi! It means that the charger is getting power, but cannot find a battery to charge. Please check your connection points, so that the clamps are connected properly. If you have connected the clamps properly and the charger still can’t detect the battery, the voltage in the battery may be too low. Because of the charger’s built-in safety features, the battery needs to have a charge level of at least 2V, for the charging program to start. A battery under 2V is a very discharged battery and there is a risk that you may have to replace it. What you could do if you have a CTEK charger with SUPPLY or WAKE UP mode, is to use either of those modes to try to bring the battery up to over 2V and then charge it from there.
Hi, i plugged in my ctek mxs 5.0 to my unplugged carbattery and it only let me chose one of the following, car, agm or recond. I cant combine them. Also it only lights up either 4, 5 or 6 in the upper row.
Hi! Please disconnect the charger from the battery and the power outlet. Try again after a few minutes. If the issues remain, please contact support@ctek.com
1:17 i am at this point where my motorcycle is .. I plugged and stays there, but when i am off season when i am not using bike and plugging it .. Is the 5-6-7-8 step will light up on its own after some time that is plugged or i have to do something?
Hi, the charger will, automatically, go through all the steps by it self. We recommend not to leave the charger unattended for longer periods of time until the charger shows a green light on the upper row ( Step 7 or 8) the green light ensures that the battery is in a good condition and can be left connected to the charger for longer periods of time. need to buy a CTEK. I am very new to it. Can you please provide me with what is the latest and greatest model I should use for my jeep and vw. Looking for one that cures agm and lead acid batteries. Please help as id like to buy one asap. Which one is best for me?
@CTEK Battery Chargers Hi, my CX5 (with i-stop) uses an EFB battery. Should i use 'Car mode' together with or without the 'AGM' option? I'm verifying as i read mixed suggestions regarding this. TY
Have a cx3 and initially set it to agm mode (car plus agm led lit). Was silly as I thought all stop start batteries are agm and later found out about EFB … I’ve now changed the mode to just the default charge mode (car icon only lit). Would I have damaged my battery having chosen agm mode ? 😢 (it’s on stage 4 with no error lights at the moment)
Hi. The chargers are provided with the correct plug for the country it is sold in. If you buy it in UK, there will be a 3 pin plug. If you buy it from eBay - it is not always easy to know what country it is ment to be sold in. Good Luck. Best regards CTEK Support
Should the Recondition mode light extinguish when the process is completed? The display on my 5.0 charger is currently at step 7 of the 8 available but the Recondition light of the mode selector remains illuminated, so I am not sure if the process is completed.
Hi. On the MXS 5.0 the Recond (light 6) will be lit all the time, even if RECOND is done, or even if it is not active. To leave a black light in a row of 8 lights caused an extreme storm of questions where the customers thought that the charger was broken. However, if you don't choose RECOND, the light will go on anyway, but the same time as light 7 (green light for fully charged)- but ti is not possible for the charger to perform a RECOND. On MXS 7.0 the display is another type. RECOND on the upper row is placed below the common charge indications and it is only lit when RECOND is active. I hope this explanation made sense. Best regards CTEK Support
I just bought this battery charger, I connected to my car battery, after around 40 hours of charging I tried to start my car but it was dead, 1-7 led lights were lit up. Why didn't it start? Really disappointed 😔
Hi. In order to give you a good answer, I need to know more about the battery? Has it been worn out for a long time? How old is it? The reason to why the charger failed can vary. 1 - the charger is broken (that is no t very common, especially as all the 7 lights lit up) 2. the battery is worn out. (Like if you have a bucket that contains 10l. If you have a lot of stones in the bucket, you can fill it with water - but the amount of water will probably not be 10l) this can lead to a battery that does not have power to do what it usually does. Try to charge again. If the result is the same - please get the battery tested as it might needs to be replaced - if it is OK. Please contact info@ctek.com for better help. Best regards CTEK Support
Hello, I've bought the product. Is it normal the charger gets really hot during the charging? Then, is it also normal cables got hot too? I mean the red and black cables. Thanx
Hi! The charger will likely get warm during charging. To avoid the charger getting too hot, please make sure you ensure proper ventilation for the charger, do not put it on a hot surface or directly on top of the battery. At which charging stage was it hot and did it cool down later on in the charging process?
I have a MXS 5 7 amp and and AGM 95 CA battery. I noticed that it quickly goes to the 80% light and then takes a least an hour to get to the full light even when I think my battery is fully charged. Why is this? Shouldn’t it to to the fully charged light with minutes of switching on?
Hi, The charger doesn't know how fully charged the battery is without checking, so it takes time. Regarding the hour in step 4 (80-100%) this is the charger testing the battery, trying to push in some more current, and even if the battery is totally full, it will try. The good thing is that it is the battery that decides how much current it can receive so obviously there is space for a bit more current before it is 100% fully charged. I hope this explaines how it wokrs. Best regards CTEK Support
Hi, Connect the MXS 5.0 to the recommended charge points, and make sure the lights on the upper row is lit, Step 1-7 will most likely be lit within 24-36 hours. light 8, 10 days later. When light 7 is lit, you can leave the charger connected to the battery for a longer period of time. Best regards CTEK Support
I have a modern start/stop vehicle and a classic vehicle with a normal lead acid battery. Is the MXS 5.0 safe to use with the start/stop vehicle or should I use a CT5 start/stop or CT5 time to go? If the CT5, can it be used on a normal lead acid battery? Thanks
Hi the MXS 5,0 is safe to use for all type of lead acid batteries from 1,2Ah up to 160Ah. I am quite sure you have a type of lead acid battery (and not Lithium) The MXS 5,0 works fine with your start stop vehicle. Use Normal mode. The Start stop charger works as well and is as intelligent but have another type of display. I hope this helps. Best regards CTEK Support
l have recently purchased a CTEK MXS 5.0 12V 5Amp Smart Battery Charger. I intend to use it to keep the battery healthy in my CLA45AMG 2017 mercedes. I see in the vehicles handbook that it notes that a voltage of 14.8v is the maximum charge voltage, Presumably to protect the cars computer. I understand that the CTEK MXS 5.0 will charge at up 15.6v as a part of it’s charge cycle.. My question is: Is it safe to connect the charger to the battery while the battery is still connected to the vehicle and to leave the charger connected for lengthy periods unsupervised. ?
Hi, It is safe to use a CTEK charger when the battery is still within the vehicle. There are short periods where the voltage is up to 15,8 (as long as you don't use RECOND mode) but that time is so short that it will not harm the battery. I hope this will help you. Best regards CTEK Support
@@joaoverissimo2555 Hi, Yes, the voltage from the charger will never be so high that it risk the electronic components in the vehicle. Best regards CTEK Support
When you select the normal car charge and recond, after the battery is fully charged should the recond light turn off? Or should I turn off the charger and just leave the car icon on by changing the mode?
Hi, The chosen programs on the lower row will be lit as a reminder what program you used last time you used the charger. In the upper row you can follow the charge process, when led 6 is lit - the charger is actually doing the RECOND, when step 7 is lit RECOND is done. The leds will be lit all the time. When choosing another program - led 6 and 7 will be lit at the same time. but there will be no RECONDition done. I hope this explains better. Best regards CTEK Support
I have a EFB brand new leisure battery. 12V / 100Ah but not sure which mode to use to change it? Is it the normal battery program and the AGM option together? Thanks a lot for your attention.

Hi, Is there any LEDs lit up on the charger? Is it connected to mains? If it is, and no lights on the upper row lits up, then the charger is most likely broken. It is a poor comfort that less than 1% of our chargers brake - when you are one of those who is exposed.. But that is why we have 5 year warranty! Hello, So My BMW e91 starts but I want to top the battery up as it has been left standing for 2 months... I bought this brand new from amazon and after 3 hours of being connected it just has a green light lit up.. the mode switches between charging options. is it a lemon? not cheap item not work first time.
Hi, Interesting! What green light? Is it steady or flickering? If it is flickering it is most likely because the voltage in the battery is lower than 2V - that is the limit making the charger spark proof and reverce polarity protected, A battery is stated empty at 11,8V. If there is another led - please let me know and I will give you a better answer. Best regards CTEK Support

My harley battery is 19ah. Am I correct in chosing the car mode as it is the setting for batteries from 14ah to 160ah. Also can I keep the charger connected while I start the vehicle.
Hi, Actually you can choose both! The CAR mode will be faster and that is often a good thing. But the MC mode can with good result charge batteries up to 32Ah. I would choose the CAR mode - for speed! Good luck. Best regards CTEK Support
I have my ctek mx5 connected up to my car battery (which is out of the car) it is on the 3rd orange light. The charger itself is getting quite hot. What's happening?
Hi, the 3rd light is BULK = adding as much current as possible until a specific voltage. During this step the charger works hard. Harder if the battery is big and drained, even harder if it warm round the charger. So warm is OK, It should however not be so hot that you can't hold it in your hand. If that happens - stop charging and try to charge another battery, if the charger still gets too hot, please return the charger to the dealer (5 years warranty) Please let me know if the problem remains. Best regards CTEK Support

Hi...I have a CTEK MXS 5.0 charger connected to my bike battery. It was working fine until a few days ago when the charger got stuck on step 4. Does the battery need to be replaced? I'm confused because when I connected another CTEK MXS 5.0 charger to the battery it went through all the step of charging. Is the first charger faulty? Please help. Thank you.
Hi. How long did it get stuck? It can be in step 4 (Absobtion) for 10 hours. And if you disconnected the charger before that - and connected another charger - the next charger just finished the job. If it took more than 10 hours - try again and if there is further problems - please contact us again. Best regards CTEK Support
Hi, I've been charging a VRLA/SLA 12 V 12 Ah AGM battery for almost a day & the LED indicator is stuck at the 3rd light. 😣 I'm using a combined program of AGM, Recond & Motorcycle (lit icon on the charger). Should I use a different combination maybe ? 🤔😏 In the manual it says that the 3rd step should take a maximum of 20 hours, before it goes to the 4th stage. 😶 Does the battery need to be replaced maybe ? Hi In the past when using my CTEK MXS 5.0 it has got slightly warm but nothing to worry about. Today I connected it to my, very low, Transit battery and within 2 hours the charger became very hot. I shut it down for about an hour and then tried again, but no improvement. I decided to shut it down there and then. In my workshop I have an old Optimate and this will happily charge a battery from dead flat. If it does get too warm I just shut it down for half hour then continue. Any help will be appreciated.
Hi, thank you for contacting CTEK! The chargers get warm when working hard, if the battery is very drained or old, if there is big consumers active and if the temperature is high. However it should not be so warm that it burns your fingers when holding it. As this happened again, I recommend you to take the charger back to the dealer according to the 5 year warranty. It might be broken. Best regards CTEK Support
Hi. I have the MXS 5.0. i have a new Yamaha motorcycle , that apparently has a VRLA battery. Should i use the motorcycle mode on its own, or with the AGM mode? Also should i but the negative lead on the battery or somewhere on the bike if charging the battery when on the bike? Thanks
Hi, The VRLA type of battery is a common lead acid battery that is sealed. If you are unsure if you should use the MC mode or the MC+AGM mode I recommend the MC mode. If the manual shows any "recommended charge points" or similar, I recommend you to connect accordingly. If there is no recommendations regarding where to connect the charger, I recommend to connect to the battery positive and negative pole. I hope this helps. Best regards CTEK SUPPORT
When I connect my MXS 5.0 to my car battery it cycles through all of the modes and then stops at the "motorcycle mode" I can't get it to stay on the car mode.
Hi, If you can't actually change mode by pressing the mode button, the charger is unfortunately broken. I hope it is still within the 5 year warranty. If so - please take it back to your dealer for help. Best regards CTEK Support
@@CTEKBatteryChargers hi, I can change the mode but it cycles automatically through all the modes and stops on motorcycle. I can get it to stay on car mode for an hour or so if I hold the mode button pressed for 4 seconds after choosing car mode but then it goes back to motorcycle mode.
@@AAndreee1 Hi. I would really like to know more about this! Please send a copy of your two mails (or with the same information) to hello@ctek.com. I've just bought MXS 5.0. Can I use Recond mode with AGM batteries? There is a confusion in the manual - in the table with an explanation of different Charging Programs stated that RECOND option is for the empty WET and Ca/Ca batteries. No AGM stated there. In the "CHARGING PROGRAMS AND OPTIONS COMBINATIONS" there is an AGM-RECONG combination. Please clarify this. Thank you.
Hi, thank you for choosing a CTEK charger! AGM batteries do not suffer from acid stratification, so RECOND is not really needed. It can't harm using REOCND mode on AGM batteries once a year, but it will not be a great difference in capacity after using RECOND. Best regards CTEK Support
The power light ( green) is flashing when trying to charge my battery ( NBN battery in Australia), why??? I let it flash for 30 minutes thinking it will start charging but it won't stop flashing. Thanks
HI, could be two different reasons. 1: poor contact between charger and battery. and 2: the battery is extreemly discharged - the charger needs 2V from the battery in order to start - that is the limit to make the charger spark proof and reverse polarity protected (and the battery is stated empty at 11,8V so 2V is extremly low) my recommendations it to check the connections first and hope that the charger starts. Good Luck CTEK Support
Hi, is it normal the package arrive without a seal? I received the product in its box, but there was no cellophane on the box, nor any kind of seal. Thanx
My car (petrol with a filter) is less than a year old. With the UK government's restrictions due to Covid-19, I am worried that short trips to the shops will eventually clog up the filter, if I am not allowed to take my car for a longer drive to heat up the engine oil. Also my battery is going to gradually lose its charge. I have just ordered a CTEK MXS 5.0 and CTEK Connect 2.5m extension - should I keep them connected constantly, when I'm not using the car ?
Hi, the Covid -19 puts us all in situations we never thought we would see, and not everyone have a thought on the vehicle and the battery - so it is a really good thing that you do! You can have your MXS 5.0 connected from now - until the day you are allowed out to drive again. This will not harm the vehicle in any way. Always remember to check in on the charger at some times - just to make sure it works as planned. Best regards CTEK Support
@@CTEKBatteryChargers Thanks a bundle ! Ordered through Amazon, but am told I won't receive it (I'm in Surrey) until May. i might have to sneak the car onto the motorway for a good run, to burn off the carbon deposits on the exhaust filter, and keep the battery in good nick until May.

My car has been idle for several weeks, and when I connect my MXS 5.0 to the battery, none of the steps lights up, not even step 1. The green and mode lights are on to show that it is connected to the mains. What is this telling me about the battery? Is it definitely beyond hope?
Hi, if the green light is flickering it means that the battery is too discharged to start (Lower than 2V) If it is steady and if you can change mode when pressing the mode button - but no lights on the upper row lits up, there is a big risk that the charger is broken. If the charger is within the 5 year warranty I recommend you to take the charger back to the dealer with a proof of purchase. Best regards CTEK Support
@@CTEKBatteryChargers My car battery is completely dead, I have just bought the MXS 5.0 and gone to use it today, I connected as instructed and everything looks fine except from none of the steps light up and then eventually the charger enters "energy saving mode" where the green light starts flashing after a minute or two. What should I do? Have I missed something?
@@williammayger9897 Hit looks like the battery is so dead that the voltage is lower than 2V. That is the limit needed for the charger to be reverse polarity protected and spark free. A 12V battery is stated as empty when voltage is below 11,5, so 2V is extremly low. You can try to connect and reconnect some times - every time you connect there will be a voltage pulse and if you are lucky the voltage will step up over the 2V limit. If not you need to use another tool to get over the 2V limit. Sorry for the inconvenience this causes you. Best regards CTEK Support
I've just purchased the CTEK MXS 5.0, have read the manual (in Dutch, because that's my native tongue), have watched quite a few tutorial RUclips videos, have read quite a few Q&A in the comment section below, but still don't know where to leave the battery charger while I'm charging the battery. @CTEK Battery Chargers, could you please give me a clue? Thank you !
Hi, thank you for choosing CTEK!. If you, by "where to leave" means "how to connect it to the vehicle" I will try to explain better. If I misunderstood, please explain better. If the battery is a stand alone battery - without vehicle connected to it - the only choice you have is to connect with the positive red clamp to the positive pole on the battery, and the negative black clamp to the negative pole on the battery. If the battery is mounted in a vehicle it can be different. First look in the vehicle manual for recommended charge points or jumpstarts points or something similar. If you cant find information, Connect the red positive clamp to the positive pole on the battery and the black negative clamp to chassis (unpainted metall part under the bonnet) As long as the battery has got more than 2V you will see directly that the upper row will start to lit up, then it is correct. Good Luck. Best regards CTEK Support

Hi. CTEK do not have a 6V charger. You can charge 6V batteries in series as long as they are used together in a 12V system. To connect 2 6V batteries that are very different will damage the batteries when they are trying to even out. If you have 6V batteries that are used in 6V systems I strongly recommend you to get a 6V charger. Good Luck. Best reagards CTEK Support

Are there any CTEK battery chargers in the US and Canada market which has a self-battery storage feature (like a Power Bank)?
There seems to be many people having the same issue.

Hi all,
I'm hoping a CTEK charger can solve the battery problems I'm having with an infrequently driven vehicle.
@@CTEKBatteryChargers Hi. You mean Recond mode will work at all stages?(1-7) and doesn't it support for AGM battery?
I replaced my battery in Dec 2018. Bosch 95 Ah battery. Standard design, not AGM. Is it recommended to run recon on a battery this young or is it something to do when it's a bit older in order to wring a few more months from it?
All the lights are on my CTEK charger which I put on a brand new battery it sat a year and will not start what are your thoughts? cheers
Hi, it's not easy to say. I will need more information. You can send a mail to info@ctek.com and tell me more about the battery type, and size, if it's fitted into a vehicle or not. What charger model do you have? If the battery doesn't work - I would recommend you to get the battery tested to find the problem. Hello, why battery ring terminal conector (The CONNECT - EYELET connector) doesnt have fuse? Most of other brands have it.
Hi, through all the years we have not seen any risks or accidents with that missing fuse, but safety is important and for that reason we have it on the INDICATOR products, and also on the CONNECT products in the US. Lets see what the future brings - updates are done regularly.

My car is BMW-X1 (2017). During the Covid lockdown, the battery gone dead. Go a new CTEX MXS 5.0 today and start charging. Charging mode has been set to Car and AGM mode. Even after two hours it stop at Step-3. Do I have to give up my hopes?
Hi, Thank you for choosing CTEK charger. The charger charges with 5 Amp so it can take more than 10-15 hours in step 3 to fill up to step 4. I hope it will work out fine for you. Best regards CTEK Support
Same situation here. It has been 11 hours on step 3. Good to know that it takes 10-15 hours.
I have to stop checking the charger and leave it over night. Thank you, CTek.
3:42 "It might mean your battery needs replacing"... so how do I confirm if it needs replacing or not then?
@@CTEKBatteryChargers Is there any way to put the charger into pulse mode, without having to wait 10 days? It would be a useful feature, for example if you were going abroad and leaving cars unused for a while...

Could somebody give me a hint?
Battery is complete empty, car was several months not started, Battery is very young (February 2019)
Thanks in advance
HI, this is a very common issue. The flashing power led (after two minutes)n tells you there is no contact between the battery and the charger or that the battery is discharged to more than 2V. That is the limit when the charger starts. The limit is needed to make the charger spark proof and reverse polarity protected. To measure between the clamps will give you 0V as there is no battery connected. Try again - make sure you have good connection between the battery (recommended charge points) and the charger. If battery voltage is higher than 2V the charger should start. Good Luck. CTEK Support
Thanks, he conectivity is OK, but the battery is on 0,7V far from the 2V minimun you mentioned. Do you have an idea how to reach the minimum 2V? Is there any possibility to avoid( "cheat"), substitute this 2V Check?
@@josemiguelpolo Hi, if the battery has gone empty over night, it can be possible to get the battery to work fine again, but if the battery has been empty months and months before you try to charge it - then the battery is most likely in so poor condition that it need to be replaced. The MXS 5,0 do not have the possibility to raise the voltage to over 2V. Our bigger chargers has got a SUPPLY mode where the charger works more like a power supply and do not need the 2V safety limit. Best regards

Can I leave it charging outside in my garage that can get pretty cold? And also can the battery be left charging under my motorbike seat?
Thanks
Hi! The MXS 5.0 works well in ambient temperatures as low as -20C and yes, the battery can be left under the seat while charging.
My car battery is completely dead, I have just bought the MXS 5.0 and gone to use it today, I connected as instructed and everything looks fine except from none of the steps light up and then eventually the charger enters "energy saving mode" where the green light starts flashing after a minute or two. What should I do? Have I missed something?
The battery charge is too low for the CTEK to detect anything is connected. You might need to connect the battery to another battery to bump up the charger start voltage. You can then disconnect the second battery and the CTEK should continue charging the dead battery.

Is it safe to charge battery Renault Nissan 12V - L2 EFB 60Ah 640A (EN) MF (in Renault Captur II) with CTEK MSX 5.0 without disconnecting the battery from the installation of the car ?
Hi! Yes, it is safe to use the MXS 5.0 without disconnecting the battery from the car. If the car has dedicated charging or jump start points we recommend you to use those. If not, you can use the positive terminal on the battery for the red clamp and a ground point on the vehicle body for the black clamp.
I'm charging my 120ah 12v deep cycle battery with ctek mxs 5.0. When charger gets to number 7, my battery voltage will be around 11.95v. When is the right time to unplug charger?
Hi, If the voltage is 11.95 when the charger is in step 7 - there is something wrong! Voltage should be 13.6 in step 7. So there is a risk that the charger is broken - but 11.95 is extremely discharged - so there might be something wrong with the battery as well. Hi CTEK, for a GEL motorcycle battery is it better to use the small option, or the small+AGM option? Thanks in advance!
Hi Pavel. If you are sure you have a GEL battery (not as common in MCs) you should use the MC mode, or if it is bigger than 14Ah, you could use the CAR mode, but NOT with the AGM settings. GEL batteries do not benefit from the higher voltage in the AGM setting. Good Luck! CTEK Support
@@CTEKBatteryChargers Thanks a lot! I am positive the battery is of the GEL type. I will stick to the MC option and see how it goes.

For the first days it will keep a constant voltage on the battery when fully charged then it will start giving it a pulse when the voltage drops to low.

What happens if you by mistake put recond mode on AGM batteries?
Take care.

Power light blinking, trying to charge a dead battery. What does this mean?

@CTEK Battery Chargers Hi, my CX5 (with i-stop) uses an EFB battery. Should i use 'Car mode' together with or without the 'AGM' option? I'm verifying as i read mixed suggestions regarding this. TY
Hi! You can leave the AGM option out and just put it in "Car mode" :)
Does it comes with a mains 3 pin plug ?
One i saw on eBay comes with just 2 round hole connectors on end ??.

Use Normal mode. l have recently purchased a CTEK MXS 5.0 12V 5Amp Smart Battery Charger.

Hi
In the past when using my CTEK MXS 5.0 it has got slightly warm but nothing to worry about.

My car (petrol with a filter) is less than a year old. @@williammayger9897 Hit looks like the battery is so dead that the voltage is lower than 2V. That is the limit needed for the charger to be reverse polarity protected and spark free. You can try to connect and reconnect some times - every time you connect there will be a voltage pulse and if you are lucky the voltage will step up over the 2V limit.
