For general battery maintenance, Ctek is anything but rubbish! I have been using a Ctek MXS 7.0 for many years now via the proper jumper points and this has saved my butt many times over with old dying batteries! On my E90 and another vehicle of mine, I have the Ctek CTX Battery Sense fitted which is super convenient and easy to keep track of battery state of charge remotely via my smartphone. I get that while my Ctek MXS 7.0 and other chargers in their range (and other brands) do have various modes and a "supply" mode, this will most definitely not be adequate to power the car's electronics in a stable manner for programming, no argument there, but to say that these charges are rubbish especially when used incorrectly isn't fair. The BMW charger (or tender) is a Ctek product, and just about every BMW dealership has tons of them plugged into their showroom cars. Maybe a good idea is to change your video title to specify "not to be used during programming"...
I agree. I have been using C-Teks all over my garage. Everything here that has a battery has a C-Tek. The Battery in my E36 M3 lasted 12 years because of the humble C-Tek MKS5.0.
I think ole mate here is rubbishing the C-Tek is because some are using them to keep the battery juiced while programming.
I only use the C-Tek chargers for the purpose it was designed for.
I have no interest in programming so that will never be an issue for me.
The title is misleading! Although Dean is right, the title should have read "Do not use CTEK charger for programming". CTEK chargers still do a great job providing a trickle feed especially in times like the present where we hardly drive our cars.
title is misleading BUT if you put it for JUST PROGRAMMING people wouldn't click and I doubt people would get the message
Hi, thanks for the advice - could/should you use it to update the maps software?
CTEK are NOT trickle chargers
@@pickleboat45 I thought battery conditioning was trickle charging?
@@pickleboat45 If you leave them on they will start to tricke charge with their fancy float pulse mode after 10 days. I use it like that on my bike during winters.
Holy shit. Anyone know when the video actually starters? Mother of GOD!
Annoying as all get out.
I have two Ctek chargers. One built into my 4x4 overlander and another which is stand alone in my workshop. I swear by them...... 15 years brilliant service
They are great.. but 5 amp isn't enough for programming....
@Barry Martin Does your shop offer flash programming for high-end vehicles?
Do you advise Ctek for normal batteru charging at winter in the garage ?
Looks like BMW branded CTEK?
It looks exactly like a CTEK MXS 5.0
It is 😳
Most people are buying CTEK or another make for trickle charging/conditioning their battery...
I do this with a NOCO to the under bonnet engine terminal points (as he shows)... On my Z4 that is a 2nd vehicle that is only used occasionally....
I do not see a problem with using it for this purpose (only).... As for programming uses I think that is another issue and the BMW Doctor has mixed up terms and uses....
I new about the not jumping it from battery. I've seen guys using battery chargers to program. And seen some guys get nervous about battery voltage as they program. Great full for your knowledge. 👍
Exactly mate there all over RUclips these guys who state to use this they have no idea and I don’t even know how people follow there rubbish talk
Love your stuff man, keep it genuine! Been enjoying your helpful and informative as hell vids which have helped me and my N52 many times. ✌✌
P.S I had to get my IBS cable replaced which prevented the car from running, giving me a scare. DO NOT mess around with the battery sensors.
Pröst!
Your welcome mate
The Godfather of programming, your video is just typical selfish British comercial advert. Nothing explained, no comparison, just another typical advert.
thats right thats why I need to make a advert I think its all about promoting NOT helping the people maybe thats what you want
people that help im about advertisement
You left here learning something at least !
no, not British, on the contrary, most brits don't give a shit about anything in general. This man just has some unsolved issues, and a Trump size ego. It's funny to watch though :))
Oh wow, that’s all rather melodramatic 😳
What type of items should I buy for my BMW e46 to put on my oil engine and gas tank.
Yeah, you use a flash programming power supply that maintains voltage and adjusts the current output based on demand, sometimes over 100amps. They also have a clean DC voltage with minimal AC ripple.
What are your suggestion for simply maintaining proper voltage on these batteries? I am not programming or anything, just attempting to safely keep the battery as close to the 14.2V when running, as possible. If I have to leave the car for a while or in severe weather, what type of trickle charger is okay? A 5 amp battery tender should be okay, correct? I know to connect it from the front terminals.
can you tell if this use a range of high frequencies or just 1? if so, which is it ? thanks
So it's basically a high output adjustable DC power supply set to running @ 14.2V and crucially 120A. given average battery chargers run on 10A max, you can see where it can go wrong.
CTEK does have a 120A capable power supply, but that cost as much as that voltage regulator thingy, so it's a bit of a moot point.
Can you tell me what might be wrong with my transmission? When I shift from reverse to drive my transmission jerks hard forwards. When I come almost to a stop, my transmission slightly jerks down to first gear.. my bmw 2013 328i has 120,000 mileage. thank you kindly for your help.
Would you recommend using Noco Genius 10 to keep 12v batter life healthy?
Hi, I have a new 2020 M4.... do you recommend some type of battery maintainer if the car sits? If so what should I purchase? Thx sir
Hello I have a bmw f10 525D 2010 ...the issue is the car remote key doesn't work at all ...I have checked the anteenas in centre console and they work ..changed the diversity antenna and still the same issue ...i hooked up this cas4 in another bmw and it worked flawless ...can you help regarding this ? What could be the issue ?
In my 3 series I changed my battery with a northstar group 31 and a group 24 wired in parallel, i have audio amps connected, would I need to disconnect the amp wires? Do I need to disconnect the batteries and charge them individual? ( using noco genius 5)
Thank u for that advice!! Where can one buy that type of correct charger here in US? Stay blessed!!!
I want to do some programming on my 79 E26. Where can I buy this voltage stabilizer?
Hi little off topic if got a 2005 e90 330i with the older cluster it does not have the BC option for keys and daytime lights options is there a way to code it to enable it?
What’s the battery stabiliser unit that you use in this video mate? Got a G26000 today and still doesn’t seem to be working
Thanks so much for sharing your time and knowledge 👍🏽😍.
Awesome videos bro you help me so much .do you have a video on how to properly add an aftermarket amp
No mate I don’t BUT I will stay tuned for this
Hi I have a n62 sonarscope points out noisy brake Vaccum pump I changed it 6 months ago with a 60$ part now making noise again I changed out same part and still makes noise any suggestions
So your specifically talking about the CTEK in the video. Correct? Would a CTEK Multi US 7002 12-volt charger work for Programming.
I have a 1 series it is 2011 plate does it have warning for low coolant
I have a brand new agm battery that was shipped today. is it safe to give it the initial charge with this same model maintainer? it isn't installed in the car yet, just got tied if my 4 yo battery. I'm believing it will still send the pulse once fully charged. installing tomorrow. thanks alot. love your videos 📹
I have an E39 M52. I have been maintaining my battery through those charging points under the hood as you have explained. Yesterday suddenly, the charger has stopped working. It boots up, and checks the battery level, and then just cuts out. Why?
How about using the Ctek pro25s for programming. I mean setting the charger on the ”supply” mode. Is that okey?
this is awesome u right on the mark mine the same my battery the boot and i have these terminals the front because its a computer and also when the mechanic starts the car he go onto these but ctek u saying dont use as a charger amazing my mechanic told me today i can use noco or ctek he family
So can I use NOCO GENIUS10 in 12v supply mode, I believe is outputs 13.6 from mains so basically is a battery like you said you can use a brand-new battery, so I guess it is the same?
That a good stuff shown bro. Hope you saved people cars now so they will kot even try to so the update wrong ways and killing they modules/cars...Keep it up Dean!!
thanks Karol mate
Keep up the good work.
thanks mate
Hi, I need your guidance how how to brighten the door ambient lights of the bmw320d spotline 2013 model. I consulted with bmw india and they said these lights are dim and can not be brighten. Thanks in advance
Hi mate what trickle charger would you recommend for my m3 comp 2017. Lithium battery. Thanks
Where do I buy that BMW maintainer for programming?
If you simply want to recharge a dead battery that wont start is the Ctek 7002 ok or any battery charger?
what about using a charger using NCS Expert?
The title is a little confusing, after watching your video, I think you are trying to tell us Not to use a Ctek for programming. What do product do you recommend for maintaining a battery. THANKS FOR AlL THE GOOD INFORMATION.
365786BMW, 14 BMW'S so far!
HI you can tell me what charger i need for my MB sl500 2004
Hello where can I purchase a voltage stabilizer I like in the USA. Thank you
What can you do if your trunk is locked on a f82 m4 and the Electronic disconnect switch (ETS) appears to be activated from accidently conecting and attempting to use a noco genius 10 as a tender. We can't get the car to start we have another ctek and noco 10 we placed under the hood and the noco says it's charged but when we try to start, it appears the battery has disconnected itself from the car.
Thanks 👍
cheers vladi
what kind of programming are you referring to? battery programming? ok to use this or batteryminder chargers just for trickle charging?
NO car programming , module programming on the car , updating the whole car
Would you recommend or ctek charger or similar to charge your battery once off the car? Or can you use the terminals on the front of the car with the battery in the car. Thanks
Always use the charge points under the hood/bonnet that's exactly what they are there for. RT M.
Hi why should I buy optimate vs ctek in 2021? thanks
Is it good for trickle charging...like everyone is using them for when the car is just siting for a week ??? Obv from the correct points of conection
Yes
What difference is there between connecting the voltage stabilizer to the connections under the bonnet vs directly on the battery terminals? The connections under the bonnet connect directly to the battery terminals anyway so they're not isolated from the ibs terminal. It shouldn't make any difference where you connect the stabilizer as long as it's +/- correct polarity.
Could you please explain the difference in more detail as the connections under the bonnet are for convenience on a lot of vehicles and the safety aspect regarding sparks/ignition of battery gas/vapours when connecting jump leads etc. My battery is located under the passenger seat which is awkward for jump starting.
Can I jump start my x5 e53 off my e60 useing under the bonnet + & ~
Doc u have talked about the voltage stabilazor before. But where I can I buy one like that? I’ve been searching but I can’t really find anything ?
Only from me that’s why these are made in U.K. by a company I use
What do you think about the Bavarian Scan Tool? Is it worth buying?
Hell no it’s not ista is the only way
Please advise when membership program will begin, thanks for the honest and great advice as always!

I have BMW 535i 2013
I get a notification Battery Discharge, recharge Battery, and the mirrors stopped being automatic or acts weird. The dealer appointment closest one is a month and a half. People advised me to drive it around, I barely use this and I traveled a year and came and found this problem.
The CTEK to me sounded weird and don’t understand why you need to open the battery when you can use the plugs under the engine hood, because when BMW charges your car they plug cables either from sort of generator or a wire dropped from above (seems like your method but 100kg heavier).
Any advice? Should I worry? Or just start moving it around a couple of hours?
Just get the battery from dealer, swap and register. Dealer can register in 5min...
How much is that stabilizer? Do you have a website were you sell it? I'm looking to tune my n54 + gearbox in the future and I wanna do it correctly.
Love your videos man, keep it up!
@@BMWDoctor Thank you brother! I will send you an email the second I'm ready, I just need a few others parts first to make it right the first time 💪
thats cushy mate dont worry
Dude what can I use to charge battery? It's a good battery cars been standing for long and it doesn't have enough power.. I don't need programing just to charge
Hi
I have a BMW 2014 which i donot use often.
Whatbisbthe best way to save my battry wail storege for months
CTEK is designed to do that, maintaining the charge.
You're a great DIYer! 😉
Hello. This is good for programming ?
gys gysflash 102.12 hf
So where do we get this voltage stabiliser please ? I have a BMW 2006 X5
direct from me as im a supplier made in Uk
BMW Doctor How do I get in touch with you to get one I got a BMW X one battery is dying
I'm searching for an affordable voltage maintainer for a while now. I'm only coding and programming my own car. Ever since 2010. I am not looking for something expensive as it is for my own car only and not for professional use. maybe I will use it once or twice a year at most. But for DME and EGS and CIC I just want a regulator connected. which one is afforable and good for my own personal car without spending 1000+ Eur?
my friend there is NO kind of stabiliser for under that trust me on that these are not cheap at all this kind of stuff is not cheap thats why its ok for me as most products are sent to me but for the average person its near impossible as it constantly changes every day
Bought a device, the NEO socket, plugged it into my Murano and increased my mpg almost 10%.
Can i use the BMW Advanced Battery charging system instead to charge when I store my G30 in winter time?
You can use CTEK also. They are great for this purpose.
How can I stay connected and get access to future info/discussions, etc ?
I will put it out in a community post when membership becomes fully active mate you will see the join button everyone is asking I haven’t finalised it all yet
As I want to have videos there straight away as people join
Is there anything reasonably priced that we can use to just keep the battery topped off in the winter? Or do we have to drive the car around aimlessly for hours when we have no where to go?
Use the ctek charger for that.
I’m not bored of putting this once again brilliant content again buddy 💪 I’m learning so much off you keep it up
thanks alot mate and I appreciate your support bro alot its working good for me bro trust me now getting the support I need and i KNOW the next car will set this channel apart from the rest
BMW Doctor can’t wait you are so straight to the point I love it 👍 I am guilty of using RUclips for answers and ended up in my ac schnitzer blowing up 😥
Ma02acj Beemer exactly mate you know what I mean by the BRAKE CLEANER / DIYER guys mate that’s why I’m here now the realest to ever come across RUclips
I recently bought a CTEK - 40-206 MXS. I noticed that this thing gets awfully hot when in charging mode. Measures close to 115F (46C) . Is that normal?
stay strong!!
always do bro strong and proud
Can I use the ctek mxs 5.0 on my 320d 2009, to trickle charge my battery when I'm not using the car?
Yes, the title of this post is misleading. If you are charging your battery thats fine AND the BMW charger is MADE BY CTEK. If you want to re-program the way your car runs (and you don't know what you are doing, follow his video). The majority of people who stumbled on this (like me) just want to charge the battery - not to mess about with the way the car runs.
Hi, so my radio went out. Also,my ac blows warm. What may be my issue
But it is better to be connected to the battery charger while doing stuff with ignition on than without it, right? I mean, it should take much more time to drain, isn´t it? Thanks
Is it okay to use Ctek charger connected to the engine bay terminals while doing the electric water pump bleeding procedure?
He never replies to messages on his channel..
Hi I watch your videos all the time about BMW's you really have these cars down to a science l can tell you know what your talking about and I really hope you can help me find a maintenance charger or what ever it should be when storing the car over the winter. My BMW is a 2009 328i 3.0 four door sedan. It's the nicest car I've ever had and I want to take care of if it the best way I can. I have a fully automatic Battery Charger Maintainer by Schumacher 3amp that will work on Standard AGM Lithium model SP 1297 connect and for get it. It's all I can't afford at this time hope I can use this without screwing any thing up but wanted to get your advice first please respond back to me as soon as you can I deeply deeply appreciate it
Higher end CTEK models have "supply mode". Is that good enough?
If i join can you help me with the power draw on my e90 2007?
Are you saying don't use the CTEK BMW OEM charger for charging the battery, or only to program/coding? Is CTEK a good battery stabilizer/charger for BMW? Which one is best?
He's saying just when programming
Is that bmw one ok to just use when storing the car over the winter tho?
Yes it is. Just not for programming.
I have a 2013 BMW 320i xDrive. What charger do you recommend?
You don’t use a charger for programming. If it’s just for normal battery charging then most smart chargers are fine, including CTEK. I’ve had no issues with nine at all.
So what if I want to keep my battery charged, and NOT do any programming. Just keeping the battery charged, can I use a battery tender to keep the AGM happy?
Absolutely yes. I've used CTek for years with several cars and they work just great keeping the battery alive. Three weeks ago I woke up a car battery in -20C temperature just by letting the CTek do it's magic during the night. After that we've had even colder temperatures and the battery is doing just fine.
I use the BMW ctek version with no issues for trickle charging.
Wich stabilizer for Porsche Cayenne gts ?
desulfation shows 8 hrs: why that time? and what was the voltage at start of stage 1 and at the end? this way we could learn what improvement we get with desulfation and in what time. and tried the manufacturer but no response. they just want to sell.
Greetings BMW Doctor. Just a quick question? I already bought same BMW battery charger. As I am a seaman, car is sometime not driven for couple of weeks. Can I use this BMW charger for battery charging?
Kind regards, Marko.
Marko Susac absolutely, these are float chargers not battery maintainers. What’s, the difference, a float charger is designed to charge, discharge and charge a battery during storage or low use. Typically at 1.5 to 2 amp. A maintainer is designed to ‘maintain’ the battery at 13.6 to 14v during software download or showroom use - these are the 2 most common uses. If your battery is ‘dead’, then you need a battery charger to bring the battery back up to serviceable volt.
And yes, BMW as well as other manufactures have partnered with CTEK to private label their battery float charger for the designed purpose. So don’t blame the OE, look into the mirror the fault typically lies with the user. IMHO and informed opinion
Yes
thank you for your videos Help a lot
Noco genius 10 charger and maintainer good for ista-P?
Hi dean, can you jump start a bmw from another car by connecting cables under the hood + - connectors?
I wouldn’t do that mate if you fry your dme that’s your own risk
Thanks for the reply doc.So i should first charge the battery without the car's wires connected and then connect the car to the battery
No big difference is jumping it from the rear of the battery itself and charging it from there the ports under the engine is what they are used for
@@cristianojoana1898 This stuff is all in the manual
Where to donate to get premium membership?
Its just a rebranded Ctek charger. My customer runs a very reputable BMW/Mini independant service centre and he confirmed it. Absolutely correct advice on not charging directly to the battery though 👍🏻. It is also a brilliant trickle charger.
Does this apply only for programming? What if the car sits for a long time (weeks) untouched for example and you don't want your battery to go flat? Should you still charge using the engine bay terminals?
yes you should or remove the battery from the car and charge it
What is the brand name of the voltage stabilizer you are using?
Do you recommend any others, I am located in Texas!
Thanks again, love your videos Mate, they have saved me so many times! I have the software to diagnose and now program my cars both my E39 a 1998 540ia prevanos and a 2003 530ia.
Both are driven almost daily.
Thanks again!
How's it going mate, i've replaced my 95ah battery with a 100ah one, it was originally set up as 90ah. I've read half people suggest a 100ah battery should be set up as 90ah, whilst the other half suggests 110ah. I spoke to someone else and they said 110ah, what would you recommend setting up a 100ah battery up as on a BMW E60, 90ah or 110ah?
Honestly doesn't matter. Batteries (and electronic copmonents in general) is within 5% of spec so it doesn't matter that much. However it's better that the BMW thinks it is a 90ah than 110ah because of overcharge and temps.
I’ve not interested in programming. Just interested to trickle charge up.
That BMW charger looks like a CTEK mks5.0 12v 5amp. Only difference I can see that BMW branded says Li-ion instead of AGM on CTEK branded.
I have a mini R56 Goodwood ( cooper S ) so looking for the correct positions to connect trickle charger.
I’m getting a charging malfunction notification, charged my battery at the store yesterday. How do I fix this error?
So I should connect it right to the battery and then I’ll be ready to program. 🏎😎
You stole my joke! lol "So just to be sure...." LOL
Deano bang on the ball again 👍
A battery charger is for charging batteries and not for programming modules. Your asking for a bricked ecu! I use the gysflash 100.12 hf even for the small progamming jobs and for remapping. Measure twice cut once its all about using the correct tools for the correct jobs. Keep the top content coming deano 🙏
What set up you have for programming ? Did you use diagnostic or you go on hide menu for power supply mode?
Thanks mate
Man like doctor
