One important thing to note about the 981, possibly other models as well, there is a secondary charger socket in the passenger foot well. That is the one you should be using not the one in the center console. If you haven’t started the car for a while, I think more than 10 days, the car will go into a sort of deep sleep mode and that center console is shut off. Meaning you may have your trickle charger plugged in but the car will not actually charge and your battery will eventually die anyway. Look for and use the one in the passenger foot well.

Different fuse / amp rating and only one stays active with the key out. Front air inflator is also picky on outlets I think it’s reversed for that guy else you blow e fuse
For both, the BMW and Porsche, the 12v socket will be inactive after a while, thus not letting the Ctek charging/maintaining the battery. I also ended up hardwiring them and hiding the tail under the carpet/cover. Great videos and absolutely love your garage! Cheers.

I did see another guys post about charging porsche (911 2015) key in = turning the ignition on (not starting) , plugging extension into socket , then turning ignition key off and remove key , then starting charger ? It was a different charger , so could this be a cause ? Otherwise the car disconnects the charger after a short time ? link to other YT post below .
My old A4's battery was almost dead. The hood latch was stuck and I couldn't pop the hood. The hood latch thing was an annual event in the winter even lubricated. Anyway, I charged the battery through the cigarette lighter port and got the car to start. After the engine bay was hot, the latch freed up.
I have several CTEK chargers that I use constantly on 3 60s classics and my "daily drivers" including a 986 Boxster and 718 Cayman S. The cigarette lighter is the way to go . Too simple. Never had an issue doing it. IMHO, CTEK is the best. After my first Battery Tender failed after less than a year.so I researched alternatives and found CTEK. And he is right about the Porsche brand premium. Ridiculous.

He said his 2016 911 only would automatically turn off the battery being charged otherwise ? I've see nothing about this with the Ctec charger ? Need a photo of beautiful Violet standing in the Cayman Frunk!! Make sure you set the CTEK trickle charger mode to AGM (Snowflake). I think Porsche recommends using the cigarette lighter port. On BMWs there are +/- terminals under the hood, to avoid connecting to the battery directly. Porsche does have a remote + terminal, so you connect directly to the battery + terminal and use the remote - terminal.
Tommy - video was helpful. When you run the charger from the interior of the car, what do you do with the cable in regards to connecting to the electrical outlet? Do you leave the door open a crack or the window?

I have a 2008 Boxter which is not being charged for months and battery is dead. I got the charger and the cig. adapter following your link to Amazon. I connected the cig. Adapter and then the chrger to it, the green light indicating the connection is good, did not come up, I tried both the center and the passenger side bottom connectors, I even tries it on my Odyssey, the green light did not come on still. do you think the cig. adaptor could be faulty, or I am missing any steps?
Check the settings for your battery ! My Boxster 981 has a AGM battery - I think your Cayman would be the same ? Was the charger was set to the wrong battery type .

A 12v agm battery is ment to be charged around 14v so 12v is nominal voltage and it shouldn't be lower than 12 volts for a period of time or it can cause permanent damage to the battery.

@@TommyLGarage I found out why. Some chargers/maintainers have a desulphate mode. That mode raises the voltage and spikes the battery. Anyway, in any case I am not spending 3 to 4 times the price of an AGM battery to get an AntiGravity battery. Not worth it and my batteries last over 10 years.

its best to hard wire (if you can), the cig lighter will not see the same voltage as the battery terminal due to volts drop and paracytic load.

I prefer to charge directly at the battery terminals using the supplied harness. That way I do not have the charger cables running by the door seals.
