In this episode of Sweetwater's SoundCheck, Mitch Gallagher tries out the AT5045 condenser microphone with the help of Don Carr. After the video, click the link above for even more on the AT5045!
The depth, clarity, and dimension are amazing. When I closed my eyes, I could swear he was sitting in front of me playing. The one over the soundhole really presented some nice picking detail and low frequency thumps. Color me impressed.
Now That is how you sell stuff to the audio community ! Short, informative and with plenty of audio so we can actually hear the stuff ! Thanks Mitch and sweetwater :)
Renan Fernandes Thanks for watching, Renan!
Those mics sound great!
Mitch, great job with explaining the mic, short, sweet and to the point as others have said. I have a KM184 but it has a little too much character on several sources. You have shown how wonderful this mic sounds which has a very natural sound. You really feel like your hearing the guitar in front of you. A slight bump in the high end but its not harsh or edgy. Really nice. I was going to buy one AT mic but you have shown how amazing two of them sound together and its cheaper to buy a stereo pair than one now, and one later. You left me no choice but to buy the stereo pair.
I'm late to the party, but thank you Mitch and Don for the great demo! I've really wanted to give a pair of these a try ever since I heard engineer Al Schmitt say that the AT5045's are his new '''Go To'' mics for Drum O/H...and just about everything else...Acoustic Nylon AND Steel String Guitar, Horns, Strings, and even Vocals. He said that the detail, tonal qualities, and transients are all excellent, while remaining smooth, and without the high self-noise and bulky form factor of the old studio classics.
I guess you've got to ''pay to play'', but Mmmmmm, I gotta try these!
This type of short vedio format is great! The mics sound really good, too.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Sorry, another thought - when close micing my AT4081 this morning I used it running along the neck angle pointing at the 12th fret and the sound actually improved. Since this has a rectangular element it could feasibly improve also.
The horizontal angle change made it richer and both lows and highs were enhanced. When not in close micing it didn't make any tonal difference.
Love this on acoustic guitar (single) and jazz piano as a pair.
You'd wana be able to use it on a lot of different sources at these prices. Its quite nice, very pleasant sounding but a little bit of of tinker sound in one specific place on top and then it rolls off like a dark compressor. What effects processing was used in the demo BTW?
It sounds very even in its response to -right through the miss and down through the lows; would make a great compliment to my Sweet Water bought AT4081 ribbon.
You know what, after a second listen I think you mic'ed it wrong. You should have used midside technique so we get the centre mic sound in its truest timbre and the second mic should sound the same but provide some natural reverb. This is easy to do and we wouldn't be hearing the transient based phasing issues common with xy close micing that I can hear in the demo.
"20000KHz" wow that´s a lot of highend :-)) very good little test though!
;)
2:57 it goes to 20,000 kHz? That’s 20 million Hz! 😝
Mitch did say "open top end", didn't he? ;-)
20,000 kHz? Interesting specs Mitch ;)
Captures all that ultrasonic detail... :) Sorry about the verbal typo!
It would be interesting listen this mic with voice...speack and sing
So is this better then Rode's NT1 mikes?
What mic pre is being used?
The two mics went directly into 2 channels of an Antelope Audio Zen Studio interface, using the onboard preamps. No processing or EQ added.
Mitch...loosing weight...Great Job
Thanks!
