The 4050 sounds great and fuller, and has a way larger diaphragm compared to the 4033. I love recording acoustic guitar with the 4033 but I always find myself putting it much closer to the guitar than in the video around the 12th fret pointed slightly toward the sound hole. I get incredible results like this.
This is one of the better demos I've seen and is very accurate in comparison. I am fortunate enough to own both of these mics and agree with several other folks that the 4050 is the best overall value in an LDC on the market. Great Sound, great features. In MHO, either works extremely well for recording acoustic instruments. Where the 4050 shines is on ALL vocals. I also do a fair amount of M-S recording using the 4050 as the side mic in figure 8 and the 4033 for mid. If you can only get one, the 4050 is the way to go. BTW- in small diaphragm condensers, The Shure KSM 137 is the best value in the market.
Thanks for all the hard work you put into making this video! I was JUST comparing these two mics when I ran across your video. You helped me make the easy final decision of going with the 4050. THANKS AGAIN! :)
Up close, I hear more throaty mids and a touch more presence from the AT4050. I've owned the AT4033 for years and would love to get the AT4050 as well.
Massive difference. The 4033 is heavily veiled in comparison, even when both mics are closer. Check out the annoying high pitched harmonic ring this guitar had, especially in the last comparison: rather muffled by the 4033, standing out like dog's balls in the 4050! (Auditioned via usb into a Dangerous Convert-2 D/A into a pair of Geithain RL906 studio monitors.)
AT4033_ Suaviza os médios, som mais aveludado e macio.....AT4050_ Define os médios, som um pouco mais duro com mais brilho e definição. Minha Opinião. Eu Gosto muito do 4050 pra meus ouvidos.
yeah to my ears too.. 4033 has that kind of muddy boost in the mid/freq I don't like that much.. but using them both it's a charme.. they're definitely my mics
4050 on guitar... Ow! Bad. Bad. Hyped. Hard to listen to. Pain. The high notes actually hurt. 4033. Okay. It's not my fav mic for acoustic guitar, but it can mix and sit nicely. Very good informative video.
Wow. The 4050 has such clarity and spectrum that it's like every string is clearly identified even when strumming.

i don't know everytime which of those two mics to put on the guitar.. but the 4033 ends to be the winner !!
4050 is my favourite, it gets more natural sound like i sit next to the guitar

Kind of prefer the AT4033 here
4050 is more clear and natural, but 4033 is also good

Which is better for vocals?
2:37 beautiful melody. not sure if it's your own or from a song, but I really like it
I wish it was mine! It's a tune called 'Bella Soave' by Tommy Emmanuel 😁
@@ivano-81 thank you! you've played it very well on the guitar too
yo thanks for making this. seriously. I'm currently looking at what LDC to purchase and actually hearing them is so important.
I prefer the AT4033. The 4050 sounds hyped in the top end.
AT4040 lifetime 🙌🏻

I have 4050 but sound better 4033
4033 does not sound good with acoustic.

Very good informative video.
AT4033 vs NT1. Which ones would you rather use? *Cheers,
