this is one of the most comprehensive microphone comparison and usage guide out there, so useful! Definitely needs to be expanded with a part 2, 3 and 4! Thank you!
I think if you have an R10 you are already at the beginning of the next level. No doubt the R121 is next level over the R10 but the R10 is no slouch. The AT2020 is always my top recommended beginner mic because it will be worth keep the entire life of your career. Best $100 dollars a beginner can spend. BTW, the R10 is outstanding on vocals.
Helpful comparison! I have been considering the C214 as a cheaper alternative to the C414 because I seldom need the other polar patterns, but every demo I've heard seems to have the same issue - a harsher, artificial sounding treble compared to the 414's glass-smooth top end. AKG markets the two as comparable which I think does them both a disservice as they have different capsules and very different sounds.
Well, I bought mine in 2009 and at the time it was a sweet mic for those of us that couldn’t afford a C414. But there are other options these days. Maybe look at a C314 if you want to stay with AKG, otherwise I’d look at Austrian Audio. I upgraded my C214 for the OC818, but they just released the OC16 which I think will be a great budget mic. Uses the same capsule as the the OC818 (but cardioid only of course).
Those two are very different microphones. The C414 is a true capacitor condenser microphone while the c214 is an electret. Pre-polarized electrets always sound extremely harsh compared to a well made capacitor, in my opinion.
O sea, quisieron comparar dentro de la línea at, el mic 2020 con el 4050, colocándolos en el mismo nivel para poder vender sus productos, esto es aberrante.
I actually believe the R10 is an overall improvement over the 121 and why I have a matched pair of R10s. Yes, the 121 is ever so slightly thicker on the bottom end but more often than not, that gets rolled back off during mix anyway. Substantially higher SPL rating, uses the same ribbon motor as the 121, awesome tone and attractive entry cost make the R10 a no brainer. If you aren't driving stupid high SPL levels, I recommend using the Royer dBooster inline preamp with the R10. Makes it shine that much more.
I really enjoyed listening to him sing. A very refreshing voice compared to most singers we hear nowadays. Quite jazzy and smooth. Also, the video was very informative.
Well... The beta 58 isn't necessarily an upgrade for all voices. I am a prime example of a voice that sounds BETTER on the regular SM58. I have a lot of "presence" (i.e. high mids) on my voice.
The Shure beta58A is a very good mic, a step up from the SM 58, but the new standard in stage mics nowadays is the sE V7, at the same price point as the Shures. C’mon, guys.
doesnt matter what you think, fun fact billie ilish used the at2020 on one album that made multi millions of dollars, so its definitely a industry standard not and a proven gold standard microphone ALSO AKG SUCKSSSS DONT BUY THEM, THEYRE NOW MADE IN HUNGARY NOT AUSTRIA ANYMORE, THE ORIGINAL SOUND ENGINEERS WENT TO MAKE AUSTRIAN AUDIO AFTER SAMSUNG BOUGHT AND KILLED AKG

How did Sweetwater hack my search history? Thank you for this video.
👀👀
I love that R10 on crunchy electric guitar.
The difference between the 214 and 414 was bigger than I expected! I know people love ‘em. I heard why
The R10 is great, but the R121 OMG that tone, those harmonics, I haven't heard a mic doing such a difference in a long time
Lordy! That 414 made the 214 sound pretty inferior!
I love my Neumann tlm103 I got from Sweetwater
Proud owner of a TLM 107 :)

The C214 is not a good mic, very overpriced in my opinion, I had to sell it, no use for this one in my studio.

The TLM 102 is great for home recording I've had one for years.
Si supieras que los mejores estudios lo utilizan como comer pan, no dirias eso.
Que sentido tiene comparar el at2020 con el 4050, quien me explica? La diferencia real es demasiada, esto que se presenta es absurdo.
Nice video
What's the lavalier mic you are using in this video?

The R10 has a much more neutral high end than the R121… all around, I think I would prefer the R10!
