    Very nice to see both a female photographer and a Canadian doing this. I especially liked your remarks at the very end of the video about familiarity, not having to re-learn things, and the idea of a classical photography experience with the bells and whistles of contemporary tech.

    Great down to earth overview and experience video. Going by the images, the fps and tracking are fantastic! The IQ is amazing as well. The details, the gradation and colour rendition. This was a great showcase! Great job Rene 👍🏽

    Thank you for making this review. It was refreshing to see a photographer who concentrates on the real life usability of the camera and not specs analysis. The images speak volumes.

    What a great review. Your images are really great. I'm still using my K-r that I purchases about10 years ago. You inspire me to go out and photograph. I'm 79 and it's not as easy as it used to be but I do get some happy snaps of birds and such off my deck. So glad to see young people who "get it" when it comes to DSLRs. I doubt if I will go mirrorless. I love the sound of the mirror bouncing and the focal plane shutter noise. Keep up the good work and have a blessed day. JR

    Thanks a lot indeed for this unpretentious, personal, and quite enjoyable impressions review based on your wildlife photography, Rene. Looking forward to more videos from you. Have been using a K-3 for the last 6+ years, and the K-3 III clearly looks to be a worthwhile upgrade in a number of key areas (OVF, subject tracking, low light shooting).

    Thank you for this 'normal speak' discussion, not all about specs, and from someone who is an actual Pentax user. Too often I see videos where someone's discussing the camera but has zero experience with the other Pentax cameras, so it definitely flavors their thoughts. Additionally, I love what you mention about the OVF and connecting to your subject. I do nature - landscape and wildlife. Often, when I walk around, I'll have the camera off until I find something. When I spot something I'm interested in, I'll put my camera up to my eye to start investigating and working the composition and won't turn it on until I'm feeling ready to start shooting. You can't do that with an EVF. I have a Fuji I use for video, and it drives me bonkers every time because I go to do the same thing as I do with all my Pentax cameras, and I can't see anything! Additionally, once I do turn it on, I have a computer screen less than an inch from my eye. That's just not enjoyable or comfortable at all for me, but still preferable than using the back screen. I love my OVFs in my Pentax cameras and no flippy screens! All of my Pentax cameras make me feel more connected to the photography, to the experience, and to the past, as I use them very much like I did with my Pentax K1000 film camera back in the day. I just don't need to worry about the number of shots or finding out weeks later that I didn't get the exposure right. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to trying this camera out. It sounds like there are a lot ofgreat improvements to my K3-ii. I have the K1 but don't enjoy it as much, so I've still been using my K7 for landscapes. It'd be nice to have another great camera to use for landscapes or wildlife that's as good and even better than my K3-ii. Anyway, thanks again. :) Cheers from Maine, USA. Paula

    Thank you for the review. I'm a Canon DSLR user and decided to remain so. What makes me excited is, DSLR is NOT dead. Even if my vendor Canon fails to keep me supplied with equipment, I'll have Pentax to rely on. I love shooting with DSLRs.
    Bottomline: DSLR lives on despite millions of attempts to kill it.

    Thank you for this, finally a review that at least gives you some idea of what is like, and really does use the camera, without going too technical.
    I was in two minds about my pre order, but when you mentioned the motion tracking, that's exactly what I was looking for.
    Like you, buffer isn't usually an issue, as I know when to catch the shot. Hopefully the K3 will improve my hit rate.

    I have the K3-11 also and I am using it for wildlife photography mainly bird photography at the park and beach hand held as well. I was a landscape photographer before Covid I switched over because of no social distance on the trails. I am waiting for a 150-600 lens to take advantage of the camera. I have the 55-300 PLM WR lens I use it currently for wildlife photography with my K3-11. I also have a Pentax K70 I used for landscapes I bought it because I was worried I might have Apature block problems on my K50 when I went to Yellowstone National Park. My only visit so far.

    Rene,Rene. Thank You. Sears/Pentax 1984. Just got Silver. And new HD Pentax DFA 70-210. Wow, with this camera. Trying to decide on new 16-85 you used some here. Or new 20-40 HD. Or 16-50, if they don't upgrade this one? This is my 2nd Silver. Haven't tested yet! The glass,from left 1/2 around the side, were too hot to touch!!!! No nose on VF! And it only took 5 minutes. Movies,VF,LV,H res., low res. it didn't matter! Never have I had any camera do that... I got it at my buds from C.C. Got my K-3 Gun Metal Gray from them in 2013. Great video on what,why,how to create joy. Kindred Spirits.

    Great review Rene! Thank you for sharing your experience with this camera. The part you mention about the harsh conditions you shoot in was what stuck out for me. Your photos in this video are stunning. I also agree settings get in the way when taking a shot. My first camera that I have is a Canon M50 apsc sensor mirrorless camera and I love it. Mostly shooting portraits and street photography. I have seen several reviews on this Pentax K 3 iii camera and to tell you the truth - I really like the way camera looks. Also mentioning the built in profiles that are in the camera sounds like a great tool. Again, thank you for saying that it’s a classical feeling with optical viewfinder.

    Thanks for this representation of the new K3. It looks like it is going to be fun to use and a good upgrade from the original. Its nice to see people keeping the OVF and a more traditional dslr approach alive. Judging by the birds in flight shots you are getting the best form this camera and I hope it inspires others to make the purchase, both as an upgrade or an advancement into the Pentax system.

    Thanks Rene for this untechnical review, I have owned Pentax cameras since 1979 (yep an old guy:). I currently have a K1 which I really enjoy, however for a number of reasons including weight and price I am reluctant to shot longer telephoto images with my K1. I own a K3 ii which is a fine camera but is more or less sidelined. This is helping me to decide to look at the K3 iii and add some cheaper, lighter APSC telephoto capabilities along with full frame features, focus and optical view finder. As you said there are a lot of (reviews) way in the brush of technical specs when really what counts is how the camera becomes an extension of the photographer and her vision. Thanks again. PS I will contact you at some point to see if I can interest you in doing a presentation on your work for the PEI Photo Club:)

    Another good review of the k3-3 . But the big question is would you buy it? At 2400 body only in canada its a lot for a camera. For the same money you can pick up the k1-2 with a used lens. Or a couple of k70s with lenses. So marketing is the only issue I have with this camera. Oh and the flippy screen. I'm never going back to a flat ever again. In this day and age it's just lazy not to have this when other cheaper cameras they sell do. But give it a year and a massive price drop then I'm tempted.
    You took some great images. But thats pentax for you. It works great and until now it was always affordable.

      Im at the point where my K-3 II is starting to show its age and I was looking to upgrade and even before I became an ambassador I was following all the news on the camera. When I got the K-3 II I was debating between it and the K-1 but went with the older K-3 II because it suited my needs for wildlife photography and the same is true for the K-3 III. I understand the tilt screen is important to a lot of people, but I think the objective was to create a camera with a focus on handheld shooting, which diminishes the need to it, and possibly impedes the OVF experience and/or adds weight. The K-1 mark II is an incredible camera, but not the best fit for me. Price was another factor in my choice with the K-3 II, but of course it was older and discounted quite a bit at that point. The price will inevitably fall like with most things, but I can honestly say I would have eventually purchased the K-3 Mark III on my own.

    Thank you for the review. The K-3 III appears to be a pretty impressive camera. I like to do a bit of hand held nature shooting myself when I get the chance. Just need to get out more. What did you think of the camera performance when you put on lesser lenses? (not the fantastic DA*300mm) I ask because I use the HD DA 55-300mm on my trusty K-5II. Also what do you think of the camera's low light performance? Oh by the way, I loved those eagle photos. Nice work.

    • @renefisherphotography717
      @renefisherphotography717 3 года назад +1

      I unfortunately cannot really attest to its performance on "lesser" lenses personally because I mostly use the 300mm, but the low light capabilities are greatly improved compared to the K-3 II. I'd usually hesitate to shoot at 1600 ISO where as most of these photos were at that setting without noticeable noise. The duck photos early on were even 5000 ISO and you'd hardly know it. 😁

    I have a feeling that the K-3 III should have been released two years ago for the 100th anniversary of the Asahi Optical Company, but was delayed for various reasons (I may be wrong about this, of course). For those who say it is years out of of date and that things have moved on, I can see their point.... up to a point. But for those who love DSLRs, it is a very good iteration, with Pentax's renowned ergonomics, ruggedness and image quality. The K-3 II has served me well since its release, and I am sure the Mark III will do so as well. For me, photography is still an art. I don't want or need the camera to do everything for me. I also use cutting edge mirrorless cameras, but none brings me as much sheer joy as using my Pentax DSLRs. All I really needed was a K-3 with more reliable autofocus: the BSI sensor and large viewfinder of the K-3 III are bonuses. Or will be when I can get my hands on one!

    Great, but I've a question. Last year I bought the new body K3 iii before I had the camera K5 ii. By the K5 ii it was possible to adjust the camera in a automatic catch in focus. That was really a great function, I could mounted the camera on a stative switch to this mode and when arrived an animal the focus point, the camera do automatically shot a photo. By the camera K3 iii is that not possible because I've to hold the shutter all the time but that is not what I'm really wanted. Is there another functionality mode for the Camera K3 iii that could do so?
    kind regards Matthias

    Great video Rene and great shots. The eagle with its wing touching the water is stunning! Question for you about the touch screen. Are menu options navigated through the touch screen also available through the more traditional menu button? I am concerned about trying to operate the camera in the winter with gloves on. Even with gloves with finger tips that work on touch screens, I imagine it would be pretty difficult to accurately operate the touch screen with gloves given the size.

    • @renefisherphotography717

      Hi Charles! Yes you can operate the camera completely (menus and all) by the joystick or the typical button presses. It's my prefered method as well!

    Thanks a lot for the presentation! I am using K-3II with DA*300 and wondering is K-3III offer a noticeable improbement in focus precision (not tracking)? I have lot of misfocus with K-3II and 300mm especially with birds at 3-5 meters, but also big animals such as Deer in forest; and this is worse when using TC1.4. Is K3III far more precise?

    • @renefisherphotography717
      @renefisherphotography717 3 года назад +2

      Hi David! I also noticed a bit of misfocus issues on the k3 ii and 300mm da* combo, and recall it being a common complaint. However, I haven't really noticed it being as much of a problem on the K3 Mark III... The 300 da* is definitely an "older" model of lens which is why it may behave this way so some innacuracy is to be expected but it's not something I noticed as much or clued into with the K-3 Mark III, compared to the K-3 II where it was a major frustration. Just overall a lot more keepers!

    I was (and I sometimes am) a Pentax user but this latest K3III APSC edition left me cold and is a product for aging existing Pentax fanatics only and some viewfinder nerds with deep pockets. This camera is an anachronism which took 5 years to develop only to address those glaring shortcomings of the K3. Ricoh has miserably failed to develop the Pentax brand into a modern camera system which young aspiring photographers could get excited about. Instead they have chosen to satisfy some old fringe geezers who don't realize that electronic viewfinders these days are working as well as optical ones and even better. I am using both systems. DSLR's are are already left behind or are being phased out by most makers. Where is Pentax going? What is their current philosophy? Where are the APSC lenses? What are they smoking at Ricoh?

    After listening to this photographer, it's clear that Pentax is way behind in technology. They have nothing modern to offer. This would have been a top-spec camera in 2008. That being said, I love Pentax's quality and ergonomics. I would buy a K3III if it was priced around $1,000.

    • @lt1caprice57l
      @lt1caprice57l 3 года назад +3

      Why, because it doesn't force you to look at a digital monitor, or because it doesn't shoot 4K video?
      Please. I don't want either. EVFs are just awful - even the "good" modern ones - and as far as I'm concerned, Ricoh could have made this an even better photographer's camera by just leaving video out entirely. In fact, I'd wager that the inclusion of video is part of what's "killed" DSLRs. You can only cram so much circuitry into those boxes, and the inclusion of video forces the manufacturers to give something up on the photography side, no matter what. Utterly stupid for people who chase numbers or want a jack-of-all-trades (which is naturally a master of none)
