My old haunts. I used to walk those same streets every day, often with my Pentax *istD which I got from CRK Pyrmont a little over 17 yrs ago. I’m using a K-1 now but the *istD is still working fine after 17 yrs

Nice video...I love Pentax and my very first SLR camera, back in the 1980's, was Pentax. Comments made focused on concerns/spec's regarding the video capabilities of this new K-3 III, are somewhat misplace really. Please bear in mind, video capability is not what Pentax cameras are about. They are primarily, purely really, designed to take top quality photographic stills. They are a pure photographers camera. The K-3 III crop and the full-frame K1's are both great examples of this, capturing superb quality images...Anyone looking at this camera first and foremost for video, or for vlogging, should look for something else, it's not what Pentax cameras are about...
In regards to the output of your next possible video update on this superb camera, I do hope you mention some of the other strong points it has, such as the superb build quality, very robust and solid, amazing weather sealing, great ergonomics, amazing viewfinder, great burst rate, great dials and buttons layout that are highly customizable and intuitive etc, etc.
And just to reiterate, anyone looking at this camera as primarily a video camera, has missed the point. Go and find a more suitable option. This is absolutely a photographic stills camera, and a fine quality one too.
Yup, I know that Pentax is purely for photography (in the past ) but is it about time that Pentax also would upgrade its video at come at par with the other brands like Sony, Canon or Nikon? As a videographer myself, I now have to maintain two systems so that I that i'll have good videos. Cameras nowadays are for hybrid shooters accommodating both photographers & videographers. It would be great if someday Pentax would be good for both worlds, the way a camera is built nowadays.
if only this camera wasn't expensive, i'll surely buy it
Thanks for your impressions on the new K3mkIII. In my view one of best and certainly well made videos on the new Pentax camera. Can you touch on the video capability? Does it have AFC in 4K video? And how does the IS perform in video now that it is no longer digital IS?
These questions, and whether it will now work with an external recorder like the Atomos Shogun, will certainly determine if I buy a new Pentax from CRK.
I didn't buy the KP as Oceania customers got shafted on 'what's in the box' compared to other markets.
Hey Arno, thanks for your questions. Unfortunately the video features were not finalised at the time of production so we were unable to test them. AFC functions in all video modes (including 4k) when using a PLM lens. IS performance is significantly improved but we cannot comment on it just yet. We plan on doing a more detailed review of the camera once a full production unit becomes available to us.
Shame the video is about the photographer and not about the camera.
Does the Pentax HDMI now function correctly, or does it still change resolution and frame rate when you hit the record button? Does it do 24, 25 and 30 fps out when the camera is set to do those resolutions internally, or is it still 1080p30 in preview and 720p60 in record, even in PAL markets? Does it do 4K out of the HDMI? What about Raw Out via the HDMI?
How much of this video was shot on the K3iii? Is the price really as stupidly high as other youtubes are suggesting - 2000 Euro spoken by some, which will make the K3iii more expensive here then the list price for the K-1ii !!
If CRK would like to do a proper video review of the features of the K3iii, I'd be happy to use one on several shoots, including setting up, lighting, filming and editing a short film only using the K3iii and Pentax lenses.
That's the whole point; I care about what a seasoned photographer says, more than what the specs say, because specs are numb. Results speak for themselves, and the words of the seasoned photographer are reassuring.
@@zvonimirtosic6171 Then you also missed the point about what I commented - he talks about himself, not about what the camera is capable of. This is a review of the photographer, not the camera.
If you don't care about the specs, you should stop looking at new cameras and just stick to an IstD or KS.
@@PiDsPagePrototypes Exactly. I care how the photographer feels about the new camera, his subjective reality. Specs can be read anywhere else.
@@zvonimirtosic6171 Then you're completely missing the point about what a camera review is. We're all here to find out if the new camera is worth buying for our own photography, not whether the photographer should do the shoots instead of us.
Hi PiDsMedia - a more comprehensive review is on the way, this video was merely intended to give a photographers perspective on what the camera experience is like. The unit provided was a pre-production camera, as such, doesn't fully represent what customers will experience with a production unit. We thought best to hold our review until we had a full production camera available.
Because of this, we cannot answer your questions on the HDMI output just yet. However the video was mostly shot with other cameras (although we did use Pentax lenses) as we only had one sample unit available. There are two moments in the video (about half way and right at the end) where 4K video from the camera is featured and we have marked those with a graphic.

This is just an overpriced, barely current image contraption that has nothing new or compelling to offer (for me that is). The 5 year old Nikon D500 smokes this thing with ease! A slightly larger viewfinder does not cut it these days. ISO 1.6 mio. ?? Really?? What are we shooting with that??
With a lower resolution, slower burst rate, worse iso performance, no ibis, smaller viewfinder, I would like to know; how the D500 "smokes" the pentax?

@@JJcorrosive You can also mention that the K-3 III has a BSI sensor. I used to have a D500 and it's still a great camera, but I prefer the Pentax, particularly as the viewfinder is so much better.
Maleficent images?. Do you mean magnificent images?. Maleficent means quite the opposite. Like doing harm. OK video otherwise.
