Skillet is a Grammy-nominated Christian hard rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1996. The band consists of John Cooper (lead vocalist, bassist), his wife Korey Cooper (rhythm guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist), Ben Kasica (lead guitarist), and the newest member Jen Ledger (drummer, vocalist). Skillet has released eight albums, two receiving Grammy nominations: Collide and Comatose. Over the past 13 years, Skillet has spanned many different genres, including hard rock, industrial rock, and symphonic rock. As of late 2009 they have sold over a million albums.
Collide Album (2003 - 2005)
In 2003, Collide was released by Ardent Records. It caught the attention of Andy Karp, the Head of A&R of Lava Records, and in 2004 the rights to Collide were bought by Lava Records, a division of Atlantic Records. On May 25, 2004, Collide was re-released under Lava Records, with an added track, "Open Wounds". Collide was yet another musical shift for the band. Citing Linkin Park and P.O.D. as inspiration for the musical shift on Collide, Cooper said "Well Im one of these song writers, everything I hear goes through my John Cooper filter of what I like and what I dont like... all these things... have been an influence on me."
Music video
A video was made for the song "Savior." The music video shows the band playing in both a house and at a park at night. It became only the second Skillet video to have a story in the video, after "Best Kept Secret," though the story in the "Savior" video is more heavily featured. The video shows an abusive father mistreating his children in the house, and the subsequent escape of the children from their father. They make their way into the park, while the location of the band playing switches from one to the other. The video ends with the children being safe in their mother's arms. The video is arguably the heaviest in theme in the band's career to that point. Lead singer and bassist, John Cooper has said that 'Savior' is a song written mostly about his childhood. Although he was not physically abused by his father, he had a very destructive emotional relationship with him. The end of the video shows that although Cooper and his father had a bad relationship, he had a very good relationship with his mother.

I wish there was more to this raw and gritty side of Skillet.
Dominion had some gritty (Surviving The Game And Standing in the Storm)
This was the first Skillet song I heard, after my friend played it for me when I told him I didn't like Christian music because it was stuffy. As soon as I heard this song, I was hooked. I'm so thankful for Skillets music and how relatable it is.
Same
God is good!!! ❤❤❤
funny thing is they never sounded like a Christian band at all for me, just another punk rock band.
Same here. Very first Skillet song I heard .
Mines was Hero, but still this song still Rocks! 🔥🔥🔥

My sisters can relate to this song. Today is our adoption anniversary. It has been 14 years and my 2 sisters were beat and were finally taken out of that awful house. PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!
Michelle Vogler ...I praise the Lord with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rock on.
I got beat i turned it in to fule to never let anyone else make me weak so i lived i life of prison

Reminds me of growing up in this childrens home called “Sunshine acres “ was a Christian home
I went to when my mom was on drugs
Spent a good part of my life there and made a lot of memories with kids I was close with …..I don’t even know where their at now
Im an adult now ……this music (Christian rock ) brings so much emotion back …times back then were simplistic and better than now….
I didn't know they had a video for savior
you wouldnt think they were a christian band by just looking at them, but hell just listen to the lyrics, they give such a message.

I had burnt this song on a CD that I just found again in my car.. Probably made 15-17 years ago. What a great song.
I remember I was in 6th grade going onto 7th when I watched the music video and I was so hooked when Lori was jamming at the drums. My mom got me the Cd and I used to play the whole album every morning getting ready for middle school. This album is just Muah! Savior and collide will forever be my favorites
Me and my friends were watching this and then John came on screen saying “I’m everything you wanted” we all screamed.😂😂😍😍😍😍😍😍

This song narrates my youth and this kind of thing still continues to this day. My siblings and I used to act like normal siblings when my parents were still together. Normal sibling rivalry but we had a happy life. Then the divorce happened when my dad had an affair with who would become my evil stepmother. We had weekend visitations with my dad and hated every last minute of it because of her. We weren't her biological children so she resented us. Then our mother was killed in a car crash and we went to live with our dad full time. There were 7 of us living in a 2 bedroom apartment. My dad, my stepmother, her two kids, myself, and my other two siblings. All 5 of us kids shared 1 bedroom (I kid you not). It wasn't paradise but it was better than what happened later. They never did anything to us in the apartment complex because of all the neighbors. We moved into a larger 5 bedroom house and then the torture began. They went so far as to charge us kids with unruly child and terroristic threat charges when we lashed out in fear. The neighboring families in the subdivision never suspected a thing. We were quiet but otherwise seemed like normal kids. CPS eventually got involved after the courts determined the parents were the problem and everyone was split up. My siblings and I never saw much of each other after that until we reached adulthood. My dad and stepmother have since divorced but the damage is done. Our past has always been a forbidden subject and has led to a strained relationship with my biological family. That insane woman still contacts us from time to time guilt tripping us for the divorce and all the hell she put us through. My dad just says to ignore her but I always hoped one day she would apologize and make things right. Before she passed my mother made it a point to take us to church every Sunday so we were taught who Jesus was at a young age. Religious leaders and Christian radio hosts have came out and said you should follow the commandment that says to "honor you parents" in these situations but how can you? Kids don't ever get the help they need because they look up to their parents and don't know who to turn to when that trust is betrayed. It's a continuing problem. You see it all the time with all the mass shootings, spousal relationships, and everything else. When do we address the ongoing mental health crisis that no one seems to want to do anything about? My wife and I have vowed that if we ever find ourselves in a leadership position within a law enforcement organization we are going to start a training program that identifies when someone is experiencing a mental health crisis. My wife was born with fetal alcohol syndrome and dyslexia. Her brothers were diagnosed with several developmental disabilities as well. They never get the help they need because nobody seems to understand individuals that are on the spectrum. My wife's brother was incarcerated on several occasions and even tortured while incarcerated because nobody understands what they go through on a daily basis. When they have a mental breakdown they get treated like a normal person and it creates even more issues. My wife gets ridiculed because of her learning problem (even by her own parents). Everyone treats them like they have nothing wrong with them and then wonder why they lash out
Отличная группа

I'm a Hero but i Feel like a Monster cause I'm Awake and Alive and this is The Last Night without a Savior Because today Angels Fall Down. but now it's too late because I'm Falling Inside the Black and I hear Whispers in the Dark while I fall into Comatose because SKILLET IS INVINCIBLE!
correction: AWESOMEST band
I couldn't even imagine the horror of a physically abusive father. It's one thing to get disciplined we all know if you didn't we'd have terrible kids running around with no respect for authority, but to grow up with the fine line polluted just shocks me. As a young man if I saw that I'd risk my life to save a kid in that situation. Hands down that's instinctual
Jumper leads to restart your heart ❤ this song got you
Yeah, this might be one of the first songs I heard from Skillet, right after high school in 2003

@Herzchen136 This music vid is about John Cooper's emotionally heavy childhood with his Dad and presumably about how Jesus saved him from the hurt.

Epic - A what? 2017 No wonder ...........! They are so addictive, REAL you know

I have a nephew that is dealing with depression and is so angry, he needs to hear this song and read the lyrics! Jesus is the ONLY way to save him! He knows his ways but refuses to listen and walks the other way.
so tru ^_^
обожаю эту группу))))
how come? what ive heard so far is pretty good
They use to play GMP guitars exclusively. But they don't make them anymore. I always thought they were a bit flamboyant, but still rad looking guitars!!!!
There best song imo ...
