I have said it before, I love you keep all flaws in the videos. It keeps us all in reality check, which is a safe zone for folks like me who have their share of whoopsies. Also, you are right. The newbies are all too often taken for granted and shouldn't be overlooked. Thank you for keeping all new artists in mind. You are too genuine.
Thanks so much for the silhouette tutorial. I have a silhouette and didn’t know how to join the letters like that. I find most tumbler makers have the cricut and show those tutorials. I love your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Doohickey is a highly technical term!
This is a great idea, thank you!
🤣🤣
Instead of sticking the pencil inside the pvc pipe, tape the pencil to the pvc. That way you don’t worry about leveling issues because of the sag 😊
How do you tape it? 🤗
@@Franseeeen I just use electrical tape and tape about an inch to the side of the pvc pipe.
Great job. I appreciate you explaining each steps and the terms you used.
Thank you for sharing your process. I am already planning Christmas gifts for my girlfriends... Hell, for all my friends and family. Such a great gift!
Yes! I’m going to make one for my coworkers when I get caught up on all of my orders!
WOW!!!
Absolutely Excellent Video!!!
Great Teacher... Beautiful work.
Very unique process. I just subscribed to your channel! I am definitely making this pens❤️
Another wonderful project to go on "my list" lol
Awesome! Love the glitters you used
Love your videos and your voice is so calming! My pens came today and I can’t wait to try them!
🥰🥰 you’re too sweet!! They are definitely a hit & I hope you enjoy making them!!! 🥰🥰
Now I need to try this
I put shelf liner on the to skewer sticks and A little bit of painters tape or electrical tape it was able to keep the epoxy from sticking onto the stick or the pencil.
What a cool idea!
I loved your video!!!! Thank you! I learned a lot!
Thank you for doing this 💜 this is my next goal
I have not ever seen anything like this. I really enjoyed the process.
Love this.. thank you just curious why did you spray with clear?
I like a clear coat to help prevent the vinyl lifting, plus helps prevent any oils from where I touched from repelling epoxy.
Foam for Epoxy Pens, You can buy it on Amazon
Thank you for sharing another awesome tutorial!😊
Nice tutorial. Questions. Where can I purchase names pre-printed on a page so I can attach to pens.? And, what exact brand of epoxy do you use. Are classes available in So. California?
Soo Cute!!! I wish I was able to do something like this.
I'm still a NEWBIE, I don't know all the lingo/technics yet so thank you for being so detailed. Newcomers like me appreciate it.
Love the video thank you. What I love even more is the knob you put on your UV light. BRILLANT IDEA!!! thank you. ♥
I saw a girl on TT that made these glitter pens and i was wondering if you could do a big circle of them?
I have an attachment that holds 21! I love this thing and it lets me crank them out faster. 😁
I use those pens, they write amazing and last forever! Thanks for another great tutorial! I just subbed!
Thank you for your tutorial! What type of spray paint would you recommend please?
I like Rustoleum 2x. But some prefer Krylon.
Do you have to use the paper mate pen? What about a Bic that you don’t have to cut the clip off. Just wondering. Thank you for the video.
I imagine you could use most styles, some might be trickier than others. 😊
Great video! Thank you!
Love your video!
Thank you so much for your video😊 This was very helpful. Extremely informative. Your pens were very beautiful ❤️
I just did this but two of my pencils got stuck lol maybe too much epoxy lol
In one of these comments someone said they wrapped electrical tape or painters tape around the end of their pencil. that helped with the pen not sticking to the pencil.
How cute!!! I’m a planner girl and looove pretty pens. This is def on my to do list
Wow amazing! How much would you charge for one of these pens? With name vinyl.?
They are $8 each plus $4 shipping. You can message me at facebook.com/thepurplestitch if you’d like. 😊
Thank you explaining every step of the way I appreciate it!
Adding to my list of things to try. Your videos are so helpful.
i just tried this an i had 4 pens an only could save 2 the epoxy gets inside an sticks the pencil inside an will not budge is there anything u can put on the end so this wont happen again?
So cool!! 😃
omg I had no idea you could do that in Silhouette!!! You just saved my sanity 😂. Gorgeous pens. Thank you for sharing.
How did you get the pencil out of the pen so easily? Both times I tried the pencil broke because it was stuck on with epoxy drips
So far I haven’t had it happen. I’m suuuuuper cautious around the edges.
@thepurplestitch do we need a turner, is it crucial to make these pens? I've never msde tumblers and right now have no interest but I found your video when looking into these pens. Thanks
Lots of folks use epoxy without a turner. The key is typically thin layers and rotating by hand when needed.
@@ThePurpleStitch thank you for your reply
Great video Jess. I do have a question...do these really need to go on a turner? I know you can do cups using the hang method and I was wondering if it would work with the pens.
I’d put money that you could totally hang method but might need a couple extra layers to get the smooth.
Thank you for the tutorial. I'm just starting to make glitter pens, too. I love your pen.
Thank you for showing how to put the vinyl part since yes everyone skips it love it
Nice video thank you for sharing your talent 😊
Maleficent is one of my favorite glitters! IT is beautiful. I have nt see this idea until I saw you do it. I LoVE this! Thanks sweetness for the video! XOXO
Can you use acrylic brush on paint instead of spray paint?
I would think so! Some people use that for their tumblers when they can’t spray paint.
Simply beautiful. I'm thinking I have to try this one! Thank you for sharing.
What happens when the ink runs out? Do they sell refills or are you just buying another regular one to change it out? (The pens aren't cheap so just wondering about the investment after.)
I don’t believe there are any refills available for this design. So the refill would cost the same as a new pen, but without the work of making a new epoxied one.
@@ThePurpleStitch
Just take the intrills from another plain pen... switch it out!
How much would you sell these pens for? I do tumblers and I'm thinking about doing these pens too
Mine range from $8-10. I’ve seen some amazing work go for $15 a pen from some shops.
Thank you Jess, I appreciate you showing all of the steps. Love your work. 😍😍😍
How long do you let it cure for between layers? Also how long until completely cure?
The completely cure answer is depending on your brand of epoxy. I wait as little as 1.5-2 hours when I use liquidy split and have my shop light nearby while curing.
Have you had issue with them not clicking properly?
Not yet, I use mine all day at work.
I'm new to this so I'm happy you do for everyone. Also I kinda like the name being on the bottom of the pen!
I can't seem to hide the "seams" of the pen. Any idea why?
Any tips on how to get the pen off of the pencil? I apparently epoxied it to the pencil 🤦🏼♀️
Oh no!! I have seen others post that they pushed it off with a dowel through the other side. I haven’t had it happen yet so can’t speak from experience. 😩
I appreciate the step by step. Thank you!
Hi the last coat the you did was that fast set?
Yep! I use that for every layer. Some fast sets are not intended as final coats, but liquidy split is FDA compliant for top coat. 😊
@@ThePurpleStitch thanks
Just tape it to the pole
Nice video. What model heat light do you have?
Whatever the $10 Walmart model is. 😆
Yours are so perfect 🥺. I’m still trying to get my epoxy to be even and the ends to look like that! Ive been through so many pens 😒
What size and name font do you use by chance
You can also make your own weeding pens with a sewing needle and a mechanical/led pencil.
That’s a great idea!!
@@ThePurpleStitch :)
@@ThePurpleStitch Also how do you keep the epoxy from getting inside the pen i made a few and the clicky part gets stuck..
I try to be extra cautious about getting epoxy over the edges.
After your first epoxy and glitter applied, how long do you let it sit before applying the 2nd coat of epoxy?
What is the shop light you were mentioning? I'm new to all this so I have nothing and know nothing.
Just a shop light like from Home Depot. There are a couple sizes to choose from.
oh my... i just had a though on selling these to my co workers. they love love love pens.. and they love stealing each others. so it think this is great... thank you for sharing
Yes!! I know mine are gonna be jelly! 😆😆
I need to do this ... to make money for school for kids..
How much could you sell these for? I have no idea how much these are worth.
What brand of vinyl are you using?
This is Orcal 651. I use several different brands depending on what I need.
Can you use tacky glue instead?
Wow that's so cool..
I need found me hobby..
Keep up the good work.
Always Alicia💜🖤💜🖤💗🖤💜
New subbie..tfs..would you consider selling some..?
Thanks for joining me!
Absolutely! Just message me at facebook.com/thepurplestitch when you’re ready. 😊
What do you use for a shop light?
Just one of the yellow ones from Walmart or Home Depot. I can’t remember where this one came from. I think it was maybe $10?
Hi what is the size of your decal? Thanks
About a half inch high and length will range depending on the name.
CUUUUUUTTTTTTEEEEE intro to this video!
For the turner is it a different turner or another attachment? Also is there a way to make these more boyish.
Could I use bright tone instead of epoxy?
I thiiiiink so…..but I have zero experience with Brite Tone.
NEED ADVICE! I must have accidentally gotten epoxy on the dowel I used in the pen. My pen is done but the dowel won’t come out. Any advice or is it a lost cause??
You can try heating the area and maybe cutting it with an exacto. The dowel is probably a goner but if you’re super careful you might be able to save the pen. 😩 good luck!!!
I'm watching many videos on these pens. Thank U for sharing. Just one question, why did u out ur name upside down?☺️💟💟💟
😁 I like my names to start at the top. Of all the orders I have made, No one has asked for the other way. It’s all personal preference. Also, personally, since I work in a place that people watch me write I like my name pointing to them.
Thank you for explaining how to do the letters, I learned something new from you today. I can’t wait to try the new things I have learned from here.
Beautiful. I just started making pens. Do you mind sharing what brand of epoxy are you using. TIA
I use several kinds nowadays. I love KS resin liquidy split and Mr NOLAS speed dry if I’m trying to get a lot done. I use KS Liquid art for more working time. And EnvirotexLite for most of my keychains.
Wow they came out amazing. I’m starting to do the epoxy pens but people has been asking me for the refill ink. Do you know where to get them from that specific brand?
Yes! Amazon has them from Pent and they write the same. You can search 5.5” refill and you’ll get a few options. You’ll need to keep the spring from the original.
? Do you think the hang method would work for pens also? New to all of this Epoxy but I have been looking for a way to refill pens since I bought some molds & Epoxy.
It should be fine, just a little more time consuming. 😊
What do you do if the pen/tumbler is lumpy?
I have sanded down a few. I’ve also had to toss a few that couldn’t be salvaged.
So you dont sand your pens after applying glitter?
Only if I have a few layers of epoxy and need to clear up some bumps. Or if there’s a big gap in time before the next layer so it’ll bond.
Can please tell me the dimensions I have a Cricut maker.
About 1/2 inch tall and length will vary based on the length of the name.
A lot of work just for a pen.
🤣🤣 you could say the same for any craft honestly.
A lot of work for a PERSONALIZED Pen...
Thank you for the great, quick tutorial! I have been doing cups for a long time and never thought of doin these until just now!
Disclaimer I am just getting started with cricut. What material did you use to cut your name into? Sorry if that seems like a dumb question. I am just trying to get familiar with the transfer tape and other material.
Just Orcal 651 glossy from Michaels. 😊
Thank you! This is amazing! I can't wait to try this :)
I would love to have one of these pens. I love them both. Great job
could you achieve this with out using a tumbler turner?
Can you paint on acrylic paint instead of spray painting a base coat?
To me it looks like the name should be turned the other way so that if you are writing with it you would be able to read the name correctly, not like it is upside down.
It’s personal preference, I’ve seen several ways posted of finished pens.🙂 it looks upside down here because of the angle of my camera. I’ve been using mine all week at work and haven’t had a single person say it looked upside down. But I see what you’re talking about.
thanks for showing the Cricut stuff I have been wanting one but it seems like so much information - I just haven't done it yet.
Would you mind helping me with a Sil Studio question? I really like that you have it set up to fill your font in white. When I change my setting to fill instead of outline, it defaults to an ugly blue no matter what I do. Where is the setting to change the default for the font color? Thanks for your help and for a great tutorial.
🥰
It should be in the left corner. Click the color and a drop down should appear.
My pens are lumpy! Am I using too much epoxy? Any tricks to avoid lumps?
Possibly, or if it doesn’t turn long enough it can have little mini drips from gravity.
The smaller the object, the less speed on the outer surface. When turned at a set speed, the smaller one is slower than the big one you are backward on the speed. Other than that great video.
I’m backward on a lot of things, so I’m not at all surprised! 😆
I wonder if you can you a syrfoam and you can put several inside the foam. I don’t know if it would work
Possibly! I’ve actually rigged up one of the inserts with the holes in it and I can turn 7 at a time.
How can I order a pen in that pretty teal color?!
If you’d like to order a pen you can message me at facebook.com/thepurplestitch. Or, if you’re just needing the glitter name it is Masquerade Fine from www.FransGlitterAndMore.com. ☺️
Love it
Do you only use the fine glitter on these, I’ve used the chunky but its hard to sand them down smooth.
The trick for the chunky is to apply twice as much epoxy when you’re glittering. It allows it to settle better. 😊
also where did you see the post of the one that looked like a pencil? a Facebook group? if so can you link me
It was a group but I have no clue which one, sorry!!!
