  • At last - Pete our 2021 FIAT Panda has new boots on - shod with some new 15 inch steel wheels and Michelin Latitude Cross all season tyres, he is raring to go.
Lets see how the Michelin's fair and how the FIAT Panda's 4x4 system works in standard and off road settings, on the same hill.
Then be shown how a real 4x4 does it - but can a real 4x4 truck on big dirt tyres get up in 2 wheel drive ?
    Lets see !!

No way did our camera work or editing do that hill any justice whatsoever - I was mighty impressed with Pete !! - Nath had a few goes in the L200, until I did the old man, Dad thing of telling him he was going to kill it !! he was properly trying.
The new tyres are a winner - I really could feel a difference in the grip that day.

Admire the first effort in rear wheel drive in Murdoch Nath..... Definitely worth a go.
Pete performed well Jon.... For an off road hairdressers car...... Absolutely cracked it.
Good tyres Jon, all joking apart.
Keep up the good work Jon/Nath....... Fabulous vlogs ya knocking out on some varied subjects.
Av a great evening Guys. Best wishes to Mrs Jon too.

Murdock walked it in 4WD, no issues, very capable truck indeed - you were again mentioned, as Nath had put away the camera gear, when he decided he would 100% get up in 2WD, just for you - so gung-ho foot to the floor, slow try's, increasing run-ups - etc .... I was so chuffed it did not make it, all the more credit to my lookalike hire car 😂(no self respecting hair dresser would be seen dead in a Panda 🤣😂)
Have a great weekend - we are getting the coats out !! were so cold today, we were shocked, felt like 5 degrees and it was 15 - wimps !!

      @@DrivenMadShow I'm getting a complex Jon..........🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I keep getting mentioned , but OFF camera 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
The drone looking down the hill from the top to bottom may av given it some perspective?
Pete was impressive to be fair.
DON'T let the old fella put u off Nath. Keep going young man.

We will rectify that - you will be commented on for sure !!
Its seriously got cold here - we have really adapted to the heat, although in the UK my car choice was twisted by heated seats and heated steering wheel - two must haves for me :) so always been on the wimpy side with the cold - our hobby when in the UK was a rib (dam sexy one if I say so myself) I also rode around Portsmouth on a Bonneville 1200, but both boat and bike, I was in rechargeable heated gloves - so proper wuss
My nickname at work was "Steptoe" due to the 8-10 months a year of having fingerless gloves on - yes they are here and on every day now.
We need to try more with the drone, saying that, it got bored of us that day - through a wobbly and flew off, took a while, but we found it !!

    Enjoyed that one lads..
Maybe compare Pete to a "normal car" would be really interesting .
The L 200 is a serious off roader but Pete does really well and I'd be interested to see them in a muddy field together ( not much mud over there i guess ) .
Also i reckon the panda is a lot more fun and much cheaper to run if you don't need to tow anything heavy.
I've oinked the back seat out of mine and fitted a makeshift bulkhead so it's a bit like a little 4x4 van 🐼🙂
    Keep safe you two 👍🙂

My Jeep only has the front seats and a bulk head - but thats a tax thing here in Portugal (do I hear the cry of tightwad!)
We are considering (well, what we consider changes on the hour) but this hour its a Renault 4 (2CV's are mental cash here) as the R4 was a cross a field car back in the day, thought one might give Pete a run for his money ? that was until this hill - no way did our camera work or editing do that hill any justice whatsoever - I was mighty impressed with Pete !! unless you took a full committed run up (so you jumped a bit of it :) , cannot see any 2WD getting up it - Nath had a few goes 2WD in the L200, until I did the old man, Dad thing, of telling him he was going to kill it !! he was properly trying.

In no way did our camera work or editing do that hill any justice whatsoever - I was mighty impressed with the Panda (as said in another comment) - a Jimny would have walked it, the tyres I am sure have made a missive difference to the Panda.
The only other car I thought of is a Suzuki Ignis - sure you will have seen this ( Top Gear ruclips.net/video/XCDCa9IvjgE/видео.html) but I think the Panda is way better quality ( that's a FIAT first !!)
Keen to know what you decide on :)

Another great video guys, but not keen on the steel wheels. Should have kept the originals on it.

    • @DrivenMadShow
      @DrivenMadShow  2 года назад +1

We have gone old man Kit look :)
The problem I have spoilt myself with is - I still have the original FIAT wheels with the Continentals on (popping them back on for the main dealer service, just incase it needs a clutch :)
The aftermarket alloys have the Semperits on (got a puncture replacement as I took a 3 euro policy on them - tight wad I am ;) to be fair to them, they all still look new.
So the 40 euro steelies were ordered for the excellent Michelins - in no way did our camera work, drone or editing do any justice to that hill - I need to keep my foot in to get up, so I am sure some wheel damage is on the cards (I need an alignment after that hill, although watching it, you would not think anything happened) so I have a 5th wheel & tyre waiting in the wings.
I think it looks a but hire car - so the all black look came in, Nath loves it - I am ok with it, but agree the alloys look better !
      Have a great weekend

I've just bought the fiat 4x4 cross in corpse grey lol, but I was looking at pete and you never got the off road alloys for it?, just wondering.

    • @DrivenMadShow
      @DrivenMadShow  2 года назад +1

I bought the upgraded alloys - (check out our collection episode ) - are they the ones you mean ?
I then purchased some aftermarket alloys (they are on in early off road ones) these had Semperit tyres 175 65 15 (I kept the continental on the original wheels 175 65 15 ) - here in Portugal tyre size has to be legally on the vehicle document, in the car at all times🙈 or a big lad, with a big gun takes all your cash.
So when the Michelins (185 65 15) were legal, I got some cheap steelies, which I raptor painted, and quite like them :)
The grey is a really nice colour, great choice (bit of me regrets not getting the grey or red or yellow) - I can highly recommend the Latitude Cross tyres - what the camera shows, really tames down the severity of the tracks for cutting tyres and the steepness of the hills we are on - when I watch 4WD247, they must be off their heads doing what they do😂

You pair make me laugh, you make a great team, Fiat should be paying you, as your enthusiasm for little Pete is far greater than you will find at any Fiat Dealership, another great demonstration of how great that little car is, even better with its new shoes, I’d guess there will be people watching this, considering a New Panda Cross and totally unaware of the Standard Tyres now fitted to the car, how do you think they would cope with the Ascent and Decent of that loose climb, compared to your upgraded Michelin’s?

    • @DrivenMadShow
      @DrivenMadShow  2 года назад

Not our best - we were not pleased with the result !!
In no way did our camera work or editing do that hill any justice whatsoever - I was mighty impressed with Pete !! - Nath had a few goes in the L200, until I did the old man, Dad thing of telling him he was going to kill it !! he was properly trying.
Murdock (L200) walked it in 4WD, no issues, very capable truck indeed - Nath had put away the camera gear, when he decided he would 100% get up in 2WD - so gung-ho foot to the floor, slow try's, increasing run-ups - etc .... I was so chuffed it did not make it, all the more credit to my lookalike hire car 😂
As to the tyres, I am sure - positive in fact, they really give me more confidence off road - since then we have scrambled up and down some very sharp flint / slate tracks - all great and no issues with them cutting on the sidewall etc, stock tyres would be dead after that, 100% sure - I need to keep my foot in to get up, some wheel damage is on the cards, so steelies now on (I need an alignment after that hill in today's adventure, although watching it, you would not think anything happened - Nath says I am too fussy, but the steering wheel is a couple of mm out, unfortunately it's one of my failings that that sort of thing drives me nuts - hence I do not drive the L200 on road 🤣)
Cannot deny, I was unsure about that hill - but it did it with ease - so when you look down, and the little Panda is at the bottom, you would never believe it could get up - it like a family puppy, far from perfect, but such a laugh - love it 💗
As to the FIAT dealer - I may or may not have said - I had to tell them they sold a Panda 4x4 🤣 they thought Portugal stopped selling that model here ....

I thought you did some excellent work, whilst not taking yourselves too seriously.
Being a cyclist no camera angle ever tells the true story of a hill, they just look flat, and you never get the true perspective of loose, slippy wet conditions or heat and dust
I was researching these cars this time last year, and the videos from car journalists was just lame, a few tests over some grass or a fire road , I also considered the tiny Suzuki , but then I guess for a professional car journo it’s just an ageing Fiat Shopping Trolley with low spec infontainment, like you say like a hire car with some Faux Stuck on bits
Such a great little car, I changed the spark plugs and air filter this week, replaced the rusty bash guard bolts with stainless steel Allen key bolts, thanks to you guys giving me some tips
When you do the plugs on Pete, laser make a long 16mm spark plug socket with a magnet tip, made it a piece of piss! C-Clip R tool too, thanks for the tip 👌

We drive a steep road from home to our man cave - it must be on a cyclist to do list - the cyclists do not bother us, but the craze for these ultra tight pants (normally a size too small) with the mesh rear panels, & no undercrackers - we get way too many views of the north star 😂🤣😂🤣 winking its brown eye at us 🤢
Naths first car was a 2007 (I think) Jimny, he loved it - he was double miffed moving here, had to sell his Jimny and then we arrived in Portugal (he was 17 1/2) and found out you cannot drive until you are 18 !!
Logged to spark plug tip - nice one !!
