I had a test drive of the Advance and was totally blown away! Performance, frugality, equipment, all is beautifully Honda engineered as usual! OK, so I'm a Honda afficianado anyway, but this baby is a beaut!
Had a test drive and this car drives amazing. Honda F1 tech coming into road cars. Honda did studies of human behaviour and gear changes. Having the emulated gear changes makes the driver feel "better" and down to earth :) Interior quality is really good ( this is me comparing my current 69 Audi A4 avant black edition). The advance model is the one to go for. Heated seats, full digital display, matrix headlights, extra sound deadening, Bose audio. Plus not to forget Honda are #1 reliable on the charts for years on end. The 0-60 times have been proven on carwow as 6.9- which is very fast from the Honda rated 7.9 and 8.1. Was so impressed I placed an order few weeks back.
Took a while for the understated styling to grow on me, that hybrid engine looks awesome, that interior looks good, I'm ok with the gear select buttons, same as what's in my 10th gen diesel civic, I just need to decide sport or advance model.
Having had one for nearly 3 weeks, for me, the Advance’s extra features are all good and worth the extra. Full leather electric seats, panoramic sunroof, beefy Bose sound system, matrix headlights (a real boon for country night driving) Haven’t used the heated steering wheel much yet but I’m sure it will be worthwhile in the coming months.
Amazing to think only a year ago you could get a new Advance for under £35,000 now it's over £40,000 and with metallic paint they are nearly £41,000, that's a huge increase in 12 months though I've just bought one (Advance, metallic red) with 350 miles on the clock for £36,000, so bargains can be had if you look.
And let us not forget that when you go even £1 over the £40k limit....... you pay £410 a year extra road tax, on top of the normal road tax for that car...... for 5 years !!! That then becomes an issue (for me).
The Civic looks very 👌 there's a lot of competition in this segment with the Golf, the latest Astra etc..great review & you are making a good channel & getting better as time goes by..practice makes perfect me thinks 👌
Looks superb. Much more appealing than the equivalent Euro boxes that litter the roads of the UK. Being a Honda it will be built and engineered to last too.
Very gorgeous car.... Those Silver trim accents does it.... Lead times??? If I have to wait a year for this. Civic or one month Seat?. It would be Civic anytime.
I'm definitely shortlisting the civic as a potential next car. It's a longer cat than golf and focus rivals, but skoda octavia is still a bit bigger in this class.
Yes. I’ve shortlisted this one too. Although I might wait for the facelift in hopes they’ll make some more improvements. I can wait another two years. The other car I’m waiting for is the second facelift of the i30 due in late 2023. It’ll be the final hurrah for the i30 as we know it and have been told that it’s going to be a significant update. The hybrid drivetrain in the civic is such a temptation though. Don’t think i30 can compete in that aspect.
I see here in Europe, we’re stuck with the liftback hybrid version for the normal Civic (not that it matters to me). In a lot of other markets, they get a sedan version with small turbo engines, for example, a 1.5 turbo making 180hp for a lot of other markets, and an Si model in the USA/Canada making 200hp/260Nm and a 6MT. In the USA/Canada, you can also get a liftback, but with a small turbo engine and a 6MT or CVT. But I am quite excited for the new Civic Type R to be launched here in Europe.
I’m not really sure we need the second engine option here in the UK although I do think a lower entry price for say a manual standard petrol would have been good. I’m very excited about the type R too!!
Quite like this although it does seem quite expensive now, but as a mk9 Civic owner the biggest problem is how big this is! This is more like an Accord replacement now than a Civic!
It’s interesting how Honda approached different markets with the Civic… North America got the hatchback and a sedan with no hybrid yet, but 4 different petrol engines: a 2.0 158hp, a 1.5 turbo with 180hp, a 1.5 with 200hp, and a 2.0 turbo that makes 315hp. The hybrid you reviewed is coming soon, however, in addition to all of the above. You’re right about the gear selector. The CRV hybrid had it and everyone hated it. The new CRV hybrid has a normal gear selector now. It’s silly they didn’t update the Civic with it… perhaps saving it for the refresh.
I have seen a few manufacturers push fake sound into the cabin and that would really put me off as its an unneccessary gimmick, overall i like it but it should have full leather seats and considering the price does feel under specced to rivals
A nice review, i am looking at a new car and this (at the moment) is top of my list, but in the Advance form due to the sunroof and the Bose sound system. I had been looking at a Skoda Superb, but they are just a little too big, so this and the possible Skoda Octavia are the two front runners.
Very interesting video. I have 1.6 CRDi I30 Sw 136 hp, 50000 km since 2021 and three times a problem with the service belt tensioner @15000 km, 30000 km and 50000 km. Too sad cause the car is lovely and has a low fuel consumption 46 mpg all around. But I need a reliable car, so I'll surely go to the Civic, Mazda 3 or Corolla.
No magic seats as this is still based on the 10g platform with extra inch wheelbase added for the battery under the rear passengers seats and slightly less boot space too than the 10g. I presume your coming from either the 8th or 9th gen civic with magic seats?
How durable/reliable those gear selector buttons are? Few months of normal operation and then one day amidst traffic they will stop working! Wobbly centre console shows cheap quality plastics which haven't been screwed together well enough! Really liked it at first and then got put off by those two things.
Thanks for the thorough review :) Just wondering what you thought of the analog speedometer alongside the digital display in the cockpit in the Sports model? I've waiting for my Sport model to arrive, I got to test drive the Advance model but this was with a full digital display.
Great video as always Tish. I have test driven a Civic and it's clearly an excellent car but agree with you about the dashboard having a "chicken wire" look. I don't like the boot high loading lip either. The other thing that astonishes me is that the UK warranty is only 3 years, which seems rather mean these days, especially when Honda cars have such a good record for reliability. As a result I've decided to go for a Toyota Corolla Touring Sports instead but there is a six month wait for one. I also got a much better PCP APR on the Toyota.
I think it's a good overall package at that price... Seems expensive but every other car has become more expensive too.. Apparently economy and driving ability are very good..
It’s interesting how the exterior looks older and less modern than the previous generation. I guess because the last gen was a lot more sharp and angular lookijg
The prices are a bit excessive I feel like. I know there’s probably good kit as standard but now it’s the same start price as a Mercedes a class sport and 1 series m sport
Good review! Have to agree those seats are a tad bland for a Sport. Was thinking of this car next, random question, could a medium sized dog fit in the boot ok, like height wise.
Same here, it's not a premium car brand. For these prices you're looking at Audi BMW territory, and I'd argue you're better off getting one of those over a Honda.
The faux leather tells us Tish is taking this one seriously! Finally finding out Honda is pissing on VW same again dull efforts. This is the car for NOW!
What do you expect from a mid size hatch, looks that rival a Ferrari 812?! It's definitely more interesting and attractive than tedious German boxes like A3's and Golf's.
I'm sure it's a well engineered, reliable car, but boy, is it bland. Price wise though, even for top spec trim, it's around £35k, which is pretty cheap compared to most EV's on the market today, especially for a hybrid.
Another cracking review Tish. To me this looks like a tad toned down version of the Romulan Warbird styles of some of the previous models that in theory at least might prove to be more appealing to the wider demographic and it's arguably more practical as well. I like it but like you I'm unsure of the gear section buttons as I'm more old school but like you mention it should not take an age to get used to it. That dashboard with the chicken wire ventilation looks OK for me and the whole thing looks like a very well executed blending of modern and classic. I like it along with the physical controls that some manufacturers have decided to switch to touch operation, good lock with that if you're wearing your thicker warm gloves in the winter. For my creaky skeleton I might have to pass on it though, the boring SUV suites me better than the normal lower cars of just a few short years ago and I really miss them.
Great..I can now use a honda with 180 bhp to go to the shops....sledge hammer to crack an egg 😂😂😂. Why are manufacturers obsessed with cars being able to get to about 140 mph...crazy
I totally see your point but I also think by offering this engine combination Honda is targeting those people who like a more powerful car….. even just to go to the shops. I’m with you, I find the power unnecessary but it definitely appeals to lots of people.
@@AutoSocialUK Given the nature of electric motors, there would have been no gain in sizing this powertrain for a lower power: its efficiency at an easy pace remained just as high, so it fits well also for users not really interested in performance. I like it for its flexibility and readiness
