I confirmed the pay band and let her know that I was at the higher end of it. Believe me ... I was bringing that to the table. But she kept insisting I through out a number.
So when you give a range you give what you are willing to accept as the lowest number and if you miss out because you are above their budget, well the job was not for you anyway.
Here's a better idea - find out the salary range BEFORE you even accept the interview. This way nobody will waste any time.
I agree, if the info is there definitely get it. Always inform yourself if possible.
Colorado and other States have laws requiring that. Very helpful.

A hiring manager can insist on whatever they want. You have no obligation to comply.
So when you give a range you give what you are willing to accept as the lowest number and if you miss out because you are above their budget, well the job was not for you anyway.
