There are more of them out there than most folks can possibly imagine but unfortunately stories like this most media doesn't consider news worthy. It's not sensational enough for them, only the bad stuff is. Almost every town that I've lived in, and at my age, that's A LOT, there are always some good ones, most are just somewhere in the middle and a handful of bad ones. maybe many do but all the media shows you is the cops relationship to criminals and those who don't follow lawful orders. This cop has these extra social skills, that's a bonus. The solution to current problems isn't for every officer to be able to clown around with the kids and locals. But just remember, his job includes disarming and apprehending DANGEROUS criminals, and in many instances, the criminals are gonna die... no matter how much clowning the officer dies in his spare time.

I thought they had like these local police programs that tries and actually befriends the more "troubled" areas? 🤔 I mean, I know someone who lives in these section 8 apartments. And her kids the only white kid. And I'm not that person... But sometimes, it really is just what is. According to her mom, they're extra nice to her. These cops are black tho., I believe. But they just don't let other ppl know that. It's just she's really small and gets picked on alot. But her mom's too much so I don't really chill w/ her anymore. Her husband is a murderer... I just can't really say that I find that exactly normal. I mean, I could know some, be associated w/ some & blah. But I still don't really wannabe around them. Especially the ones who had no real purpose

A shout out to this officer. Kindness goes a long way. Even if they show up in the mist of a conflict, if they show level-headedness, I guarantee it helps calm the conflict itself. I know many many people who encountered police who showed up to a conflict already in play and they were level-headed in handling the conflict. Those very same people walked off giving compliments to those police or even talking amongst themselves on how cool the police were. And if you're from a neighborhood where kindness, etc from the police is rare, I bet you'll agree with everything I'm saying. If so, please give your comments. Maybe we can change the views of some officers who are not like Officer Norman. He has developed the people's trust and in turn, it will make his job easier, even less stressful. He is taking time to know the people he protects.

I just sat here and cried. I know that he feels the same because I used to be an EMT on the ambulance. You just want to take all of these kids home, and love them, and you cant, one because real medics make squat, and two you cannot save them all. Not like you want to or how they need you to. Look at it like this: If a member of the Crips held doors for old ladies, walked the elderly across the street, and played basketball with kids in the hood, but he was still a part of the Crips and supported them as they committed gang murders etc. would you co-sign him even though he belonged to a dangerous street gang.

This is how policing should be if You treat everybody like a criminal it ain’t serving. Sometimes protecting and serving starts by treating everybody like your neighbors
K Sozo I think we all hope no officer ever has to use deadly force, but if any police officer is in a “them or me” situation I think they have the right to use deadly force. It is a job. They have the right to expect to go home at the end of their shift. I believe Officer Norman has either retired or transferred to community service work; certainly his calling.
K Sozo But Is that a reason not to do the good community work he’s doing? Yes, it could happen, yes, it would be tragic. But I think some cops have never done a kindness since they got in a patrol car. I wish I recalled the number but the % of police who never fire a gun in their career is incredibly high. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy when cops are rude and self important “everybody has it in for us”. Maybe they need to look at why?
K Sozo No, I understand you. I was giving you my personal view (which you probably don’t get often from a 73 year old grandmother). I agree - his life could turn around in a heartbeat. Frankly, ours could to - we just had a schoolbus driver hit a car with four kids, killing one. Hope that text was important. But no, that driver wasn’t demonized as severely as a police officer would have been. I was in the middle of the Detroit riots in 1967. Check that one out! I was visiting my Brother who was interning there and couldn’t get out of the city. Even the airports were closed. Point I’m making is civil unrest is nothing new. I come from a wealthy superb of Boston that was lily white so I got my eyes opened fast but I wasn’t raised with cop phobia. Yes. I know. White privilege. But I digress. I can only say any cops life could end in a flash or their career end abruptly. We can only get through today hoping everyone stays safe (I’m not optimistic for the fools in Tulsa). I’m hoping that when they start to see a cop with four or five complaints against them they won’t ignore it. If police were licensed, they couldn’t get fired from one town and move to another. They need to tighten up on the losers but things will settle down. I’ve seen this drill a lot unfortunately.
