- February 14th: a day many people use to express their love for one another with flowers, chocolates, and horizontal salsa dancing. However, to those who walk the Path of Browning, we know Feb. 14th is not to be Valentine's Day, but instead: "1911 Patent Day"! (We filmed this on February 14th, by the way.)
John Moses Browning received his patent for what we know today as the "1911" on February 14th, 1911. While this patent is what gave us the "modern" 1911, there are many other patents that were awarded to JMB along the way that show the progression of our favorite handgun. The 1911's development started in 1896, with Browning filing four handgun patents at the same time. They were awarded in 1897, and the world of handguns has never looked the same since.
Join us as we celebrate the Model of 1911 pistol and John Moses Browning's achievement in designing a pistol still in use over a century after its inception. We at ACW are proud to be among the American companies still producing this iconic firearm.

Time to change valentines day to 1911 day.
I need to make a petition.

Well done. I had no idea there were several patents, and versions that led up to what we have now.
John Browning and his brothers were patent filing MACHINES.
The more you know... Great episode!
Thanks! As popular as the 1911 is, there isn't AS MUCH stuff on the interwebs about it as you'd think!

No, Brown's brain did not work in a crazy way. He was an ENGINEER! He was thinking not only of the gun, but also of the SYSTEM required to manufacture the gun!
What’s up Eli….from NC.

Do you guys only build 1911s or do you take on existing ones and work on them?
We only build them, we do not work on other manufacturers at this time.
