- Alvarez Live presents J.P. Cormier, recorded live at SoundCheck in Nashville, TN with LR Baggs, hosted by Head of Alvarez Chris Meikle. Canada's legendary multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer, teacher and popular RUclips personality, JP Cormier is a 35 year veteran of the Canadian music scene and is known the world over for his heartfelt songs, electrifying live performances and his genius-level instrumental abilities. He has won 13 ECMA's, 5 Music Nova Scotia Awards, a Canadian Folk Music Award and has received 2 Juno nominations. He has 17 solo albums to his credit, has produced well over 100 albums for other artists in his own studio and has launched the careers of many artists by producing or touring with them. He still tours 200-250 days a year.

HEY, I just picked up a used MD60BG for about $26 bucks because there was a big crack and loose braces on the soundboard. I repaired the guitar and it sounds incredible. I can’t believe how beautiful it sounds especially for the price. What a great guitar Alvarez! I want one of your Laureates now! Well done Alvarez well done!

I love the way that JP looks at guitars. His reviews are very informative.
Have a DYM60HD and it has the resonance of a piano and the punch of a heavy weight. Also have a GYM70CESHB and it is very balanced with a sweet yet haunting quality to its tone. I had a M60BG and it punched waaaay above its weight class. Only reason I got rid of it was because the fret board edge does have a sharp angle and I play with my thumb a lot. Alvarez guitars are absolutely fantastic!

Wonderful video! I first purchased an Alvarez in 91 an artist series that played and sounded awesome! It was my main acoustic for 25 yrs. I currently own and play an ad70, Sitka on rosewood and I'm quite pleased with it. I recently viewed an Alvarez video that showcased a new dreadnought that really intrigued me. I hoe it makes it to production! Alvarez lover for life!

I just put my DYM60HDE away and opened up me email to find this video waiting for me. 👍🏼. Great video! My 1990 WY-1 was my main guitar for years. Yairi guitars are awesome.

I played a MD60 recently and was amazed how great it sounded and even more amazed when I looked at the price tag.
I normally don't watch other guitarist as seriously as I do you JP. I have been playing for six decades and do say Alvarez guitars are at it. I have 2 of them alongwith 3 Yamahas.

Great video. Did not know JP's history...very talented guy! Love my 1990 Alvarez Yairi DY-77. It has been my main guitar for the last 33 years. I am coveting the DYM60HD....I hope you haven't run out of that 50 year aged Honduran Mahogany yet.

I am fortunate enough to meet Chuck Brodsky when he comes over to Scotland a couple of times a year and he sings a few songs at a session I host in a little local bar called The Captain's bar. We chat and he told me about recording at your place with you. I couldn't believe it. He told me how you helped him out and I mentioned his lovely Gibson guitar. He said, JP gave me that! Wow how nice of you. I love your playing and so interesting to hear you can see notes etc as you play. Amazing. I'm afraid I will never master the guitar skills that you have but I love playing and that's what it's all about I guess. Take care! Best wishes from Scotland.

It was due to the super review of the Alverez Yaʻiri Hondurian Masterworks that got me interested in these guitars🤙🏽🤙🏽 As well as Jp always saying that great …”instruments do not have to be a well known name “ nor as expensive…. and
after watching all I could find on this Brand…. as well as the reviews over and over again…
I finally sold my last guitar I had bought So I could buy the FYM 66 HD as my last one🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼.. I called Musicians Friend. and my guy, Daniel Refsdale… we discussed it… I had to back order it… got the payment plan… Late Oct. I think 2021…
I recieved it many months later…. A bit fustrating…but set a K & K 3 contact pick up to the top (inside) and Pz under the saddle.. 2 vol controls….
Wow! So powerful! Clear. Solid notes over the fretboard! A real Killa! I am sooo happy!

2nd got moved to the 3rd spot .. my Takamine LTD 1988 🙏🏼 still beloved but the sound is out classed by the 66 HD…

I have two Alvarez-Yairi guitars I bought new in 1982; a DY60 six string dreadnaught commemorative special run with ash back and sides and a DY76 twelve string dreadnaught with rosewood back and sides. I will never sell these beautiful instruments.

Big fan of jp, bigger fan of Alvarez. Played them my whole life. I have an artist series I played throughout my adolescent ignorance. Got drunk and stomped a hole in the back…. years later liquid nailed it back together and I’ll be damned if it doesn’t sound better now. My baby is my well broken in md60ebg and I’ll own it forever. Also have a ‘73 yw1200 Yairi that is for soft playing. Alvarez has made it possible for us broke folks to play a beautiful instrument without having a car payment for a guitar. Thanks to you guys for this beautiful video!

I know I'm late coming to this presentation/show........but Man, I gotta tell ya.......after seeing JP perform Foxglove for the 1st time on his own channel, and then seeing him perform it here as well, it has quickly become one of my all-time favorite tunes. I'm going to learn this song if it kills me, lol. I know it's gonna be difficult at first, but I'm confident I can eventually pull it off with flying colors ( like I have with so many other "not so easy" tunes over the years. ) I say this because now I have to learn it. After all, I've always strived to be a man of my word.

I bought my MD60ebg after JP’s video and I have not been disappointed. It is just fantastic. I now own 2 Alvarez acoustics, the other being the AP66 parlor, which is also fantastic. I am about to purchase my 3rd Alvarez, the MFA66SHB…The Masterworks series by Alvarez is the best value for acoustic guitars available, IMO. I’ll put them up against anything.

I'm subbed to JP's channel and learnt about not having to lay out massive cash for massive over inflated fanboy hyped up big name brands, I came across an MD60 in my local shop accidentally a year or so ago, I fell in love with it but in no way in a position to buy it, later....maybe a year I was in a position but was devastated the MD60 was long gone, it took me over a month, 7 shops and well over 30 guitars test playing and short listing until I came across an Eastman E6SS-TC that I could not put down, I've had it 3 or 4 months now and play it every day, it wasn't super cheap at 1800 au dollars but compared to Martin or Gibson at over 5K it is tremendous.
The loss of an MD60 sounds like heartbreak, but glad to hear you have found a new love! Thanks for sharing @fourocker 🙌
Great video! Love the sound of these guitars. Bought my first Alvarez AD60L two years ago and it is my go to of the 6 guitars I currently own. Just ordered a new AD60CEL in February but it will take 6 months to receive it. Mingo Music is getting it for me and it is hard to wait. Thanks for the music guys.

Synesthesia is when you hear music, but you see shapes. Back when I was a kid I would see visual representations of music coming out from the speakers but that was during the 1960s after ingesting heroic doses of LSD I didn't know there was a name for it.

While I LOVE my Yairi guitars, and I have 3 of them, my 94 Martin D23HD is still the best. Even Alvarez guitars are pretty good, considering how inexpensive they are. I have two of those, also... JP does seem to have a gift, because I sure don't.... I wish he could teach it.
