This is a terrific video. The narration is not annoying, the scenery is gorgeous, the trucks are awesome, yet still relateable to mortals. Reminds me of the wonderful Rick Russel videos back in the old days.
@@J87169 Mosaic is a conglomerate corporate entity of several forestry companies that operate on Vancouver Island. They have put up gates all over the southern island. In other words, they are a primary reason we cannot access the back country like we used to.
I’m building a 71 gmc suburban and I was pausing the vid a lot to see what’s underneath your rigs. Side steps etc. I’m blown away how capable your trucks are. Great driving as well. My suburban won’t be hard core but able to flex a little, cheers from Alberta. Go Flames
In my late teens and early 20s I spend hundreds of hours offroad with my buddy in our toyotas back up behind youbou and in the hills behind shawnigan....all lost now..its so sad. Not just the logging companies, but people wheeled back in there and set fires, dumped garbage etc etc and ruined it for everyone. I would love to get back into the hobby again, my wife doesn't like the risk ;) but she's never been on a solid offroad trip...heck if we hit gravel in her 4runner thats risky for her ;) Great videos, and they make me smile with amazing memories
Ah man, to have wheeled on this island before all of the mess humans have created. Too bad. Take her somewhere with less risk, like MOAB lol! We're happy you're enjoying the films!
I had a stroke on 2/1/2024. My right side was affected. After months of rehab i finally can walk and use my right arm again and am looking to get back to the trails again in 2025. thisis a wonderful inspiration. You have such a calm narration voice. mine was also affected by the stroke . im finally speaking like i dont have a mouthful of shit.. thanks for sharing..
i loved this video. took me back to my island days in my 86 Yota with 35s and a welded rear diff. as much as I've always loved your touring the globe videos, these are my favorite because i get to see the best parts of home again.
Good evening from the south Okanagan, thanks for taking us along on the off road adventure. It's amazing what the stock axles can take - absolutely so in fact. All the best to you two as we head into winter - there's a foot or better of snow up top here already.
I remember exploring the backroads on butler ml etc.. with my dad in the early 2000's, its a shame we cant get back there like we used to without a access card. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great vids, brings back great memories!
As a mainlander, the whole existence and operation of Mosaic blew my mind when trying to ride forest roads in the South Island. Closures here, closures there.
@ There’s essentially no public land on the island. Mosaic owns the majority of it and entrusted to “ethically”manage it (forestry). Residents are supposed to have access for recreation but it’s always a subject of controversy.
You are right, sometimes you have to clear you head to see things clearly I have just returned from the jungle of new Guinea With my Range Rover V8 1996 And I my self have also had to fight an obstacle every now and then toget through or over it Your concentration goes entirely to drive in a safe manner I wish you many beautiful riding hours with manny obstacles and hurdles Have FUN and be SAFE
There's cool led headlights with the turn signals built in to them these days. You have to get the led headlight wiring kit as well for toyotas because of the reverse ground. But they are awesome for running custom bumpers. I have them in 3 of my toyotas.
The voice/cadence of the narrator sounds just like the host from Huckberry's Dirt. Feels like a perfect mashup of a show I like & some awesome wheeling! Great stuff!
Epic 🤘🏻 Those trails past Sooke are some of the best. Need to build myself a wheeler again. It’s been way too long! Also yes Mosaic the no fun police 👿
@ToyotaWorldRunners I know it's not technically island spec, but I'm building a 94' ext. Cab with a 1uz-fe turbo and solid axle up in Skagway, Alaska! I definitely plan to do a trip to vancouver island when she's wheeling worthy.
Moved to VI last year, lots to discover here. But my truck is far too new and expensive to tackle those trails, need a rock truck I guess. If you ever plan a tour on less technical/potentially damaging trails, I’m sure a good number of your local followers would jump on the event.
This was awesome. But I’m surprised on the tred of some of these trucks.. duratacs with 40% tred and 35 psi no wonder you’re slipping so much 😅 still made it through awesomely
Great video:) you are super relatable and easy to watch. That rock at the lake has been on my list for a while. I’ve got a Gladiator on 37s Think I’m gonna give it a go. Just got hit it at the right angle. Maybe my famous last words.😂
Вы просто молодец, такие машины строите всесте с супругой (девушкой), один автодом чего стоит, восхищаюсь Вами, продолжайте в том же духе. Привет из России.
Yes we are, blue truck was at 10psi, red truck was at 5. These are light trucks, takes a lot for the tires to flex, and especially on a hill climb where the weight isn't over the axle, they rarely looked aired down.
Well as a west coast road builder myself I have pulled many bridges that aren’t safe anymore. The logging company is liable for it and by the looks of that old Sill log she looked pretty rotten
As with most things in life, it's all about compromise. The red truck is a beast at off-roading, but not so good for anything else. Yeti and the other truck are a bit less capable, but much easier to live with day-to-day. I tend to travel, and off-road, by myself requiring a vehicle closer to stock and terrain less likely to break the truck. To me, that is why the old "What is the best vehicle?" question impossible to answer. What do you want to do, how much money due you have and what is your risk tolerance. The best truck is the one that makes you happy and if you can have two or three, that will make you even happier.
If you could put a rough $ value on your rig, what would it be? Been looking for a hobby to get into since being out of college. PS, it was a blast hanging out with the two of you in Cancun earlier this year. Let’s connect again sometime. We’re only a few hours away!
Hey Travis! I've spent more than necessary on this truck as I've bought and replaced things repeatedly. If I had started with the end in mind this truck is worth about 15k. You can get similarly built trucks on marketplace for 7-10 grand. Highly recommend as a hobby, which will likely become quite addictive! Would be great to connect again!
Ive been wheeling these trails for years your in my backyeard. 😂 Its kinda sad what theyve done back there in the last 10 years though, that trail used to be waaaaay longer!!
My dad had a 1982 I think Toyota truck 4x4 with 6 inch suspension lift 3 inch body lift had a V6 turbo gm motor out of a grand national was a regular cab long box 5 speed he had to get rid of it because it didn’t fit me my brother with car seats
The red one... where the hell did it have the front springs? I didn't see leaf springs poking nor did I see coils on the dampers or a cross-axle single leaf setup, so where were they?
Go to 6 yotas I run 6 in the front 8 in the rear on 37s. Maxxis at 811s never had a drama! Wheel hard tracks in Australia with it monkey gum and 6 stage were no drama
The sounds of nature in concert with the hum of the rigs was all the music this video needed. Fantastic work 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This is a terrific video. The narration is not annoying, the scenery is gorgeous, the trucks are awesome, yet still relateable to mortals. Reminds me of the wonderful Rick Russel videos back in the old days.
