@@taconomad Start exploring! I'm in your neck of the woods, and I'd love to explore there but I think finding the gems is an enormous part of what makes this special.
That shelf road is no joke. I could see pebbles slipping off the slope above the road when I was there earlier this week. It's only a matter of time before more big rocks come down, or even the hillside, itself. The lake is something special, but it's for the best that it remain difficult to reach. Been a long time since I was last at that lake. Last time we came in from the Oyster river side June 1998. In a 1987 Ford Ranger. Used to have to hike in the last km or so. There was some old boats that you could use. Some cabins near by too. Thanks for the memories. I may have to bust out the truck and dirt bike.

You should see how they do forestry in Nova Scotia - no clear cuts! Or tiny clear cuts surrounded by contiguous forest. They had to figure out how to be sustainable long before it was cool. That lake was seriously amazing. Shame it couldn't get proper protection, it's amazing how the interests of business always seem to valued higher than the interests of literally everyone else no matter how big the majority. In Nova Scotia, you will never see forestry scars while standing on the shore of a lake. They are very careful about that.
@@krishilgersom8132 I can definitely find lakes without the need for logging, it's as easy as Google maps. Driving to them on the other hand... That's where it gets complicated. The question is do we even want a road to go all the way to the lake? Or should we leave the last bit as a hiking or 4x4 trail? Leave the wilderness around the lake intact, life is more fun that way.
@@CanadianSledDog there’s no leaving the last little bit. Not one klm of that road gets built without the logging industry. Very very little of the island would even be explorable without the roads built and maintained by the logging industry. Which has been doing so since the 1800s on the island. All those cool little forest service campsite? Ya those are built with logging dollars too.
@@krishilgersom8132 you seem confused, like you're not really reading what I wrote. I already know how logging roads work - I'm a forestry worker - so please don't explain the basics to me. There is absolutely "leaving the last little bit" - you make it a protected area, you DON'T build the road to all the way to the lake. That's the alternative. It is fairly common practice in BC and extremely common in NS.
