    Kris, I agree with you totally. The S90 2018 model year is also quieter and more refined. The gearbox also responds very quickly even in comfort mode. Nice review on improvements.

    Volvo is great at improving there products. My Polestar is a older platform but you'd never know it because of the constant improvements. It also has the laminated windows that keeps the cabin quiet but the 20 in PSS tires produce some noise though. Volvo4life

    Excellent video , I am so pleased that Volvo have been working hard in the background improving the cars problem areas ! and to be fair to them, they haven't hung around in sorting out these highlighted design faults.
    I was so impressed with the electric v gas engine comparison :-) maybe they have not only improved the sound insulation, but it is possible they have done some engine tweaks to smooth out the running, especially at higher revs !! either way the car is so much more desirable as a result ! especially when you add in the suspension improvements, making the car far more refined overall.
    Thank you for that insight Kris, loved it, and so happy Volvo are moving in the right direction :-)

    I have a 2016 T6 and recently drove a 2018 T6, both air rides ... there isn't any difference in noise level . Perhaps it is only your perception fue to D series to T series transition, that you feel ther is one. For a beter soundprofing of the car you can always use some sheets of Dynamat deadening foil on the doors and wheels passage - it costs peanuts,
    The newer interface can be changed agt anytime through a simple firmware update at local dealer shop after paying the a fee for the actual manhours - with the changes of it you will also see the bootloading of the safety services while starting the engine. I have watched 14 minutes this video, learned nothing unfortunatelly. Anyways, congratulations for your new ride!
    (btw, some of the comments are pretty good, there really is some new stuff of there to be considered)

    According to the 2018 Volvo XC90 website configurator, Volvo has eliminated several options and packages in the U.S./North American market. The heated windshield option doesn't seem available anymore and heated rear seats are now part of a luxury package vs the previous cold weather package. The exterior appearance styling package which included skid plates and body cladding is gone as well. My XC90 R-Design has the heated windshield which is a very underrated option in my opinion. I've used it many times in warm weather to clear condensation from my windshield when it rains. I thought the aggressive exterior styling package looked great on lighter colored Momentum trim XC90's.

    • @skibo63
      @skibo63 6 лет назад

      I was told that some people didn't like the wavy lines in the headed windshields. In the US, the heated rear-seats became a stand-alone option mid-year - it doesnt' show up on the website, but I have seen it listed seperately on dealer inventories. I like the body cladding, but it was really expensive ( US$6000 if we are talking about the same thing) - i'm guessing that they were not selling many.

      How is your car. Here in the US, they don’t sell the R design as a T8 engine. I am in the process of leasing a T6 R design with polestar, 22 inch wheels, metallic blue color, B&W Sound system

    Here she is again :D Always good to see the new XC90
    Btw, can you check if it's true that the 2019 T8 has a 70l petrol tank now? I read somewhere that the new 2019 modelyear gives the T8 a 70l tank compared to the 'old' 50l tank

      I haven't heard about a larger fuel tank, but that is a welcome improvement. The 50L fuel tank on my T8 is really annoying :(

    I had a 2016 that was bought back, 24K miles and into brand new 2018 with air suspension. That was rear ended and into Q7 with adaptive chassis and four corner steering. MAJOR difference.

  • @aerotus888
    @aerotus888 2 года назад

    haha I see you commented on the improved air suspension here. Thanks for reading my mind! I wonder what the actual technical improvement was to make such a big difference? I did test drive a 2016 XC90 on steel springs and it felt like driving a bus! It was horrible and put me off XC90s for ages!

    i just go the 2018 XC60 R design last month and the hand break stopped working after 2 weeks. Really disappointed with VOLVO after splashing 60,000 Euro . No wonder it only comes with a 2 year manufacture warranty

    • @TheDefenderSisu

  • @carlcropper4307

    I would love for some of this to be true, having struggled somewhat with ride and road noise on an early second gen XC90, but I am concerned that it's a flawed analysis. The extra weight of the batteries in the hybrid version will flatter the ride. And does the T8 not have noise cancelling technology?

  • @munirshafi2647
    @munirshafi2647 6 лет назад +15

    Kris no offence but I honestly think you are noticing some of these improvements because you have jumped from a rattly diesel to the top of the range super smooth T8 Hybrid.
    I think the Audi is the more refined car but purely because of better sound-proofing and better engines.
    Having said that no car in this class can match the Volvo interior and design.

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  6 лет назад +3

      Your point would be valid if I had only driven my D4 and the T8, but remember that I've driven them all a lot. I've also driven my D4 back to back with both a 2017 T8 press car and then the dealer Demo I tested before I ordered mine. I agree that the Q7 is more refined, and I'm actually gonna drive an E-Tron for a few days in not very long :)

    • @777Outrigger
      @777Outrigger 6 лет назад +6

      If you've ever had a serious back injury, like me, you will understand how superior the XC90's seats are to all others. Produced with the help of orthopedic surgeons, they are vastly superior to the Audi Q7. Who cares about the ride, if your seats are superior. Makes a big difference.

    • @v60polestar88

      Munir Shafi I am not a fan of the new Volvo 4 cylinders. It’s not very refined and smooth. The inline 6 and 5 cylinders were so much smoother and refined. Fuel economy wasn’t great but not bad. Yes the Q7 V6 is better but it’s a optional engine. The 4 cylinder version of the Q7 isn’t so great either in regards to engine refinement. I can’t see myself buying another Volvo unless they offer a 6 cylinder option

    Every year they are working on the software. Not to worry when you do a service they will update it for you. Is free. It is all software, that includes the gearbox. It is normal to do this. This is happening at Volvo since I work for tham. Suspension is the same from 2017 model. Is just in the software.

      I just bought a 05/2017 XC90 T8... I wish I had seen this video before. Are you 100% sure all those upgrades he talks about (besides bigger battery) are only software ? If so I will ask a dealership to check all the updates...

    • @seb1things1
      @seb1things1 3 года назад +1

      @@margauxj-broussel9186 I worked at Volvo in London, UK and it is all software that is updated. The noise will depend on the model the inscription ones had better glass sound proof so it wasn t that noise. Suspension on the airsuspension is a software to. If you have the normal suspension there is nothing to do. The battery is the same on all hybrid xc90 T8 untill 2020 when they ve done a facelift. This clip is not a review is just somebody's opinion. The benchmark in suspension is not Q7 from Audi is Range Rover. And on how reliable they are I can tel that most Audi customers I had at Audi wasn t happy with the Q7. When I was at Volvo I ve never had a complain about XC90. So big difference.

    Have you testet active high beam? The old one is not acive on highways (over 110km/h or so), perhaps in the 2018 models the funktion is better an the lights turn with the steering wheel at high speed. Are you thinking about a screen protector film for the sensus display?

    • @mitchdiaco
      @mitchdiaco 6 лет назад +1

      Matthias Müller: Hello, there! Owning a 2018 Inscription, I could tell you that the active high beam works like a charm, at ANY speeds, even at 120 mph highway driving😊 You can also change its sensitivity in 3 levels!
      Regarding the Sensus screen, there are available Gorilla glass protectors, even for the rear seats temp controls! I hope this answers your questions! Mitchell

    I'm curious what type of drivers side mirror is at the 07:40 videomark? It looks like there is a vertical line to the right of the blind spot indicator. Is that a European feature only?

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  6 лет назад

      The area outside the line is convex to give you a wider field of view, so if that's what a blind spot mirror is - then yes :)

    • @ivanlowjones
      @ivanlowjones 6 лет назад

      Kris Rifa
      Mine doesn't have that convex mirror edge and I've never seen it on a US XC90. My Honda Civic has the same style of convex mirror because they don't offer Blind Spot Monitoring. Interesting that Volvo offers both safety features, in Europe at least.
