Correction. You can aim the Nikita missile in first person in the original.
But you still prefer this to the original. It's fine. But this one can never top the original. Still This was a video I was looking forward to. I know a lot of people are probably going to prefer this one to the original. I can see why though. The looks, the new gameplay features, and the over the top cutscenes. It's just the original had that once in a lightning in a bottle that's never going to be recaptured by a remake.
There are other games I'd like to see you review. Have you thought about reviewing all The RE games? RE1-8 Village. Those are some games you should play and check out. It was the original that pioneered the Survival Horror genre. Funny the original RE started out as a remake or spiritual successor to a Famicom game titled Sweet Home. Love to see you cover each of those games.
Your breathing can be edited out, you know. I don't mind this version, especially since I use an 8bitdo PlayStation retro receiver plugged into a PS2 to GameCube adapter. The button layout is different, unlike RE GC games having identical button layout as the PS2 with the adapter. The team didn't run out of time. They just had that moron Dennis as their CEO, and that's why Silicon Knights went out of business.
@douglasmonroe7417 relax it's a game, you literally calling RE4Remake a masterpiece when it's just a reskin re8 smh
@@MrDumdumkilla I didn't even make this about RE4. Or it's remake. For me personally though, the original RE is also where it's at. All I did was ask him if he'll do a RE marathon. That's all.
You could also control the remote missile in first person in the original game.
I've always liked the "explanation" for the differences in the cutscenes between the two versions is that the PS1 version is what actually happened, and the more over the top Twin Snakes version is being told by Otacon.
More like solid snake
To this day, its still stuck on the Gamecube.
However with emulation you can get proper 16:9 and 4K Resolution.
Yeah I liked this version. It was fun. I didn’t overthink it. I just enjoyed it. I did miss the voice of the ninja though.
Still like it. Still have it. Still play it. GameCube👍🏼
damn this brings me back… while i never played twin snakes i played metal gear solid so many times when i was kid. had to hide my tears each time from my parents or friends whenever the sniper wolf scene played out.
ill always defend twin snakes. Overall i still prefer the original game, especially for the OG voice acting and general feeling/tone of the game. but i love how twin snakes plays and its still nowhere near as much of a mess as something like mgs4 where the plot went completely off the rails.
It is a gem in it's own right. But the original is still the definitive version.
I don't know if it is different in the PC version, but you could absolutely control the Nikita missile in first person on the PS1.
Correct. That was a mistake.
Twin Snakes should be remade.
This is the best way to play the original mgs in my opinion. Wish this was added to the mgs collection
This was my first exposure to Metal gear solid 1. To this day I have still never played the PS1 version. I just never had it. I started with MGS2 on PS2. So this one and MGS3 were my favorites and I played both of them over and over again. I have heard the complaints that people have but obviously they just didn't quite register with me and I don't think they ever will considering I played this one first. As such this one will always hold a special place in my heart and I really hope that someday there's going to be a way to play it on modern hardware without emulation
You can play it on a potato on PC from GOG version. Just download the fan made launcher that adds higher internal resolution and good controller support, few other things and it's a good version of the original. I still generally play it on my OG PS1 actually though. Just brings me back to being a kid in my buddies living room, eating noodles, making banana PB&J etc
Love your detailed reviews looking forward to more in the metal gear series
Still have this masterpiece in my collection
As a fan of the series especially the original, Twin Snakes is my absolute favorite
I don’t care what everyone thinks, I still think this is a great remake
You can control the Nikita in fpv in the original too
Nice review.
I need to check out this game
Please don’t you will be disappointed
The cutscene with Baker after the Ocelot fight still makes me cringe to this day. They make Snake look like a child who’s been told he can’t have a cookie.
I think it was great! Japanese humour is fantastic!
The ultimate MGS1 experience (for me)
Snake? ....Snake? Snake!?!?!
MGS: The Otacon cut.
Love this game. Good memories of a sheltered childhood
I always thought the complaints with this game were overblown, especially ironic because now everyone's apparently ok with ff7 remake completely changing genres into arpg and taking insane amounts of liberties with the story but twin snakes does a few cheesy matrix slow mo shots yet is otherwise a 1:1 faithful remake and people lose their minds.
Twin Snakes is my preferred version overall. There are aspects the original does better but the improvements outweigh the cons.
Twin Snakes was my first Metal Gear. Loved it. Jank as fuck as a game tho. It's so great, I'll never play the original from PS1.
Well you're missing out if you don't play the original.
Metal gear solid fans complaining that anything is over the top is a bit laughable. The entire plot is a jumbled, ridiculous mess.
What's even more hilarious is the lack of self awareness when MGS fanboys make those comments.
This is Kojimas true vision for MGS1. With the GC Silicon Knights did the things he wished he could do on PS1.
Twin snakes Lets gooooo
I used a GameCube to PS2 controller converter back in 2003. The GameCube controller is the worst, it’s unusable. Except the N64 which goes without saying. What, you got three hands?!
thank u
Being able to aim in first person fundamentally breaks the game.
Just don't aim in first person then if ya think that.
@@WllKiedSnake The fact that you can is dumb and a design oversight.
@Kousaburo Or it's optional and you can use it or not.
@@Kousaburoits pretty dumb thinking Shake can't aim his gun up at cameras and other stuff, it's one of the reasons why MGS 2 and 3 have aged so much better, it's more options and more realistic even Goldeneye 64 let you shoot cameras before they spotted you
So you’re saying you defend this remake?
It's pretty good!
Why do you hate things?
Nice to finally have a review that doesn't vehemently oppose this game. MGS1 is one of those games that I respect because of what it did, but as a game find it very cumbersome and unfun to play. I really dislike it as a game. While I don't think TS is a great game either, it being more in line with MGS2 makes it much better to play and go back to.
Even if it was too easy on all Difficulties??
@@douglasmonroe7417 Doesn't bother me. I'll take the better mechanics rather than the clunkiness of the original.
I'm not a huge fan of MGS1 regardless tho.
@@Obbie40 If you do get a chance, give the original another chance. It might hold up better than you think.
@@douglasmonroe7417 I played the original last week. Was not a fun experience for me man.
But I'm personally of the opinion the only fun games in the series are 2 and 5. I'd count 4 if it had a bit less cutscenes.
@@Obbie40 That's Kojima's style in a nutshell. He loves Cutscenes.
Someone in a comment made the perfect Twin Snakes review in one sentence: "Twin Snakes is the Hot Shots 2 parody of MGS1"
If you look at it in that light it's good. If you look at it as an actual remake or even replacement for the original, you need to go to jail.
Edit: Ok, you officially lost your game reviewing credentials. This channel is now a paperweight
LMAO you dont even like Kojima's actual vision? if he could THIS is the game he would of made, man it makes sense why you cried over so many metal gear games you dont even really like MGS at all you like 2 games(MGS! and MGS2) from what i can tell and one of them is this over the top but hey why would i expect consistency from you now?
The Twin Snakes is just better period. Especially if played on Hard difficulty
I played it on all difficulties. It doesn't even come close to the balance of the original MGS. Partly because they didn't revamp the perimeters of the original around the new gameplay. But also you start out with Maxed out health. The original started you out with a small health pool, it was an extension of the MSX games. Can you defend that if it's a design flaw?
Edited: Also adding the non lethal guns kinda interfere with the story. It contradicts Liquids monologue about how many people Snake has killed to get to him when all Snake did was let them have a long nap. Are we supposed to ignore these inconsistentances? This is the same issue, not as bad as TLOU2. But still pretty bad. A thing called Ludo narrative Disonises.
@@douglasmonroe7417 the health thing I get.. but both are nitpicks. To me TTS is just more fun to play nowadays. But both are great of course
