This game was basically the original "Unreal Tournament" of consoles, packed with content, customisability and innovation that even modern games haven't bothered to match. Remember back when developers empowered players to play the way players wanted, not just how developers wanted? This was that game.
Yep. Sure, it didn't have all-new rendering, lighting and landscape technology allowing 16 times the detail. But at least the bloody game worked upon launch.
Free Radical were some devs from Rare's N64 Goldeneye project. I noticed the status bars on the screen are very similar to Goldeneye, as were many of the animations, fonts and other assets etc.
If this game was released today, half the weapons and game would be DLC, a third of it would be on a Special Edition and there would be no bots or local multiplayer... But there would be microtransactions, loot boxes, season pass... And patch after patch needed to get multiplayer working.
The graphics were good, the gameplay was fun, the story was interesting, so many characters, weapons, game-modes, etc. Why don't they make games like this anymore? Cause lootboxes, corporate greed, and safe samey games released every year. I sure do miss the mid 2000s
It's an inevitability at this point. Their whole business model is buying up old IP's on the cheap and releasing ports/remasters of them (which isn't a bad thing, IMO).
They *MUST* release an HD Remastered Trilogy of this series. Not just release one game. While one TS game can provide many hours of content, having all three will simply *TRIPLE* those hours. The days of couch multiplayer will truly return.
THQ *MUST* release an HD Remastered Trilogy of this series. While one TS game can provide many hours of content, having all three will *TRIPLE* those hours. The days of couch multiplayer will truly return. And most importantly: If this is marketed right, this could teach a lesson to the modern gaming industry that there were days when games were jam-packed full of content with zero DLC and *ESPECIALLY* zero microtransactions. I can easily picture a selling point/slogan for the Remastered Trilogy that takes the piss out of modern gaming with something like "Remember when games had so much content and charm? No DLC, no Microtransactions, everything is yours right out of the package."
WTF?... Great graphics, great campaign, Arcade mode, challenges, Bots, local multiplayer and no patches needed!?... 15 years later, technology has improved but standards have gotten ALOT worse! 🤔
That was quick, but hey you did an incredible job with this review. I hope you do a review of Future Perfect sooner or later because both TimeSplitters 2 and TimeSplitters Future Perfect are among my favorite first person shooters that I've played back in the day.
Loved this and future perfect. Also another good game i liked was Metal arms: Glitch in the system. Gotta love the early 2000's, lots of good games back then.
Actually you are Cortez in Single player but in co-op the second player just plays a random character that Cortez encounters in that time period, kinda like in Future Perfect
Have you checked out Xlink Kai? It lets you play online so you can experience 2 and FP against others. At this point, I watch TS2 videos to stroke the idea of it being the ultimate game. Nostalgia's strong.
It's worth noting that THQ Nordic recently purchased the Timesplitters IP. That likely means we'll see ports to all major platforms within the next few years.
When did this happen? I remember there was some rumblings about Timesplitters being bought out along with a bunch of other IPs (like Company of Heroes), but that was nearly a decade ago. I remember listening to one of TBs videos on it, and he was of the opinion it meant that Timesplitters was basically dead.
Shit! One of my first PS2 Games that I played. I would love to play it again, kill some zombies in this Church or follow this asian chick in Neo Tokio. Great game and so many memories :)
I really wish the actual gameplay felt better in this game cause the amount of content is great. Sadly I honestly feel the shooting is really bad and ruins most of the enjoyment.
I find the "aiming" rather frustrating, 'causing me to rage-quit so much, that it has put me off this game completly. Aiming is far better in Doom 3 - JMO
You gotta love seeing AI friendlies and enemies carrying out objectives in a game from 2002. Unfortunately, today's development teams seem to be completely incapable of emulating this feat after nearly 23 years of hardware advancement. Look at Payday 3 for an example of AI that is so brain dead that they couldn't take on Timesplitter 2's bots. What a pathetic state gaming is in today. But hey, at least we know what the development teams political beliefs are.

UT was on dreamcast))
You and I might be the last generation to remember what a Dreamcast is. To my knowledge, only 60 exclusives were ever released for that platform.

The Time Splitters series was the extension of the Perfect Dark/Goldeneye lineage for me. I really want modern game with similar sensibilities.
I got this game for my kid bro for his 10th birthday. This is what led him to have a life long passion for game design
Oh how we desperately need a TimeSplitters 4.
This game is amazing. I'm praying for a remaster release by THQ Nordic.
It's an inevitability at this point. Their whole business model is buying up old IP's on the cheap and releasing ports/remasters of them (which isn't a bad thing, IMO).
It might save THQ Nordic from that awful game they just launched.
Edit: Not as bad as 76 though so there's that.
@Jgamer930 That was my point.

I think they are coming out with a remake or remaster I saw it online the other day

Welcome to the early 2000s every good game released complete jam packed with content ... Was the peak of videogame industry PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era

The soundtrack, gameplay....memories.
Alright, time for the warriors on ps2
And perfect dark zero
An absolute gem of a game. They really don't make them like this any more.
This was so much fun to play.
I have it on both consoles and noticed the XBOX version is cropped (missing some picture off the top and bottom).
Someone bring these games back already!
Loved this and future perfect. Also another good game i liked was Metal arms: Glitch in the system. Gotta love the early 2000's, lots of good games back then.
It would be cool if you could create your own character in these guys too.
why the fugg is this not backwards compatible or on the Xbox Live Marketplace
I passed this game by when it first came out because you can't jump. Looks like I need to go back and see what I missed because I was young and naive.
they need to add this to the xboxone backwards thing :(
Actually you are Cortez in Single player but in co-op the second player just plays a random character that Cortez encounters in that time period, kinda like in Future Perfect
This channel reminds me of GGGManLives.
GGGmanlives is great
Great upload. Hope someone tweets Phil Spencer to make this backwards compatible

God I miss this game
Favorite game of all time.

@@DrearierSpider1 That's awesome, hopefully something comes of it, and that "something" is worthy of the IPs name.
Ports?... PORTS? Dude, even mobile games look better these may get remade, but definitely not ports worth money.
@@unsubme2157 At this point, everybody is just hoping for a 1080p re-release of the games.
Shit! One of my first PS2 Games that I played. I would love to play it again, kill some zombies in this Church or follow this asian chick in Neo Tokio. Great game and so many memories :)
meh i think ill avoid future perfect just because ea is associated with it love this game tho
You'll miss out.
I remember being 6 and seeing the zombie and just threw the controller down in fear in the demo (i think it was a zombie in an elevator...)
Are you from New Jersey?
Maybe the best FPS of its era. Story, editor, co op, local multiplayer...

since the acquisition by thq nordic, i have faith in it.
I really wish the actual gameplay felt better in this game cause the amount of content is great. Sadly I honestly feel the shooting is really bad and ruins most of the enjoyment.
I always was ticked off these games were never on PC. Makes no sense to me..
When gaming and politics never entered the same room
That never happened. Can you stop trying to bring politics into gaming?

Rare makes shit games today and Free Radical is dead
what a horrible fate for both of them
