Hey Mambo, I made it to Peru. I'm sorry to hear that you got bit of food poisoning (or got sick from eating one of the strawberries). This video is a great reminder for me to be careful with the food. I had experience with the wrong kind of food in China where a "fancy" restaurant didn't cook a blue-cheese hamburger correctly. So, that taught me to be careful with food EVERYWHERE!!!
But heyyyy, I made it to Peru. So far so good. Well, guess what! LOL This place is A LOT like Thailand (I'm always using Thailand as an example lol 🤣). This place is like a Thailand where instead of Thai, people speak Spanish. And it's like a Thailand closer to home and where I don't have to travel as far (YAYYY lol) and here people don't bow to each other like they do there (out of respect of course). But, so far so good. I'd say if somebody likes Thailand, then they'll probably like it here too. This is my first day here and I got settled in pretty quickly. I'm near a HUGE grocery store called "The Playa" so getting food and everything was super easy. They even got my favorite coffee and the club sodas that I like drinking! And yes, again, I'll be careful with the food. I'll probably try SOME restaurants to try some of the food Peruvian that we can't get back at home. But, I could also cook at my hotel too (to again also avoid the food poisoning that you got and like what I had in China).
The only thing that I'd say to people who want to come here is knowing a bit of Spanish seems to go a LONG way. I'm not good at Spanish. But, I'm learning as I go; even on my first day here. I just forgot a lot of Spanish. Because, I lived in China and it was overtaken when I was learning Chinese (if this makes sense). If one had Spanish class in high school, LOL it'll come in handy here. So, this is how it is going so far. I'll keep you all updated. And man, thanks for all of the ideas and tips that helped me to take the plunge in coming here. I'm probably going to try some tours either tomorrow or Monday. Yes, some are expensive. But, it seems to be a fast way to see things since I don't know too many people here yet.
By the way, I'm sorry for the long post lol. But, so far it's great here on my very FIRST day!!

I am so glad you are loving Peru. To be honest I’ve never ever had a problem in Lima with food poisoning. I’m not saying don’t be careful but I’ve ate some questionable food there and been fine. The food in Lima is pretty good all things considered
I love how you keep comparing it back to Thailand lol

@@mambokambo LOL 🤣 Yeah, Thailand is a very very cool place! And that seems to be one my markers for how good a place is. Thus, I see this to be like a Latin version of Thailand and it's kind of closer to home.

I've had food poisoning a few times in Peru, all three times in Piura. I eat pretty adventurous too, so it's bound to happen.
Here in the US, I'd have to make a sick appointment with a doctor, get a prescription for medication, and fill the medication. All that time driving and waiting and explaining things to people while I'm violently ill. Hours later I finally have medicine. Total cost: $150-200, plus an extra $80 bill a week later for a test no one told me would cost more.
In Peru I go to the pharmacy up the block and tell them I have food poisoning. I walk away with a regimen of Cipro and an Inka Cola to drink it with. On the road to recovery within minutes. Total cost: $2.50.

100% lol it’s so much easier and cheaper here to get treatment. Very rarely do I actually have or talk to a doctor here

What does a tapeworm have in common with the Eiffel Tower?
    They’re both Paris sites.

I heard if you dont want to get sick from new country food is the first thing to eat is raw scallions or leeks onions will save you from getting sick. Peruvian food is much healthier and cheaper than us food
