Hi misses good evening.

As a person who has been using English for some 40 years, I know these differences pretty well, but I could even "learn" the alphabet when Lucy explains it due to her charming voice, pleasing demeanour, and pretty face. :-)
As an American English-language teacher, I love to show my appreciation to you. You saved my life and my students love your videos and happy they at last they learning!
Lucy, great lesson! So true about native speakers struggling both these words! As an American, I'm glad you showed the difference between British and American English
I am so familiar with American English accent, but because of you, I'm starting to love British accent. Thank you Lucy. You really were born for teaching!
Another great lesson Lucy, thanks! My rule of thumb: "You lose an 'o' when spelling lose."
I love that Simon!!! thank you!

You are a luminary here in Kenya and the best English-teacher on RUclips. And the accent, God it's angelic...your beauty:is heavenly. Amazing work you do. I can't afford to miss any of your videos. Always on point.👌
What makes it especially confusing is that lose is pronounced with a longer sounding o than loose
A very large percentage of British people cannot spell those words correctly for the reason you mention. They write "loose" when they should write "lose", as Lucy mentioned.
Actually, the long 'o' in "lose" causes the 's' to become voiced, as 'z'; whereas, the long "oo" sound in "loose" preserves the unvoiced 's' sound. Orthography in English is nasty, but not horrid.
@@argonwheatbelly637 Also lose Has a deeper sound in the o
@@MuhammadAsif-ek6ep : No, today both use the long "oo" sound, as in "pool". It's whether or not it's an 's' or a 'z' sound.
Omg am i falling in love with this teacher? Love her voice and accent

You really make things much more understandable and less confusing because your vocal and comprehensive explanation is just superb... I don't find any difficulty following your lessons though I'm second language speaker (I mean English is not my first tongue).. And more frankly I find that nowadays generations in UK tends to show off and make it even harder to the second tongue speakers.. It's a bit annoying but due to geopolitics and it is not a general rule anyway, I find you very informative and tolerant, so thank you, you made me like the UK English language.
You didn't include "off & of".
The lecture is very nice and so educative.
Why do Americans say 'off of' instead of just 'off'?
thank you for being a blessings for many people around the world,Don' t stop doing ,what you loved to do..
These words are confusing indeed, each one teaches one. Thank you Lucy
Most British people don't know the difference between "inquire" and "enquire". It's difficult to expect people from other countries to know the difference!
Thank you Lucy. I was having confused earlier when I speak these words with same meaning but with difference. Now I know them how to use correctly Lucy

I use “inquire” frequently at work because my coworkers use it. And I’m in charge of Indian customer. Indian people definitely use “enquire” to ask something. I wondered what the difference and thought this may be the difference in British and American English. Now I’m really happy to understand this pair!😊
Suggestions on "difference or comparison between words series":
1. Intensive, extensive
2. Later vs. Latter
Great lesson Lucy! As a native French speaker, all those words make sense, since we pronounce them differently in French. Yet, it will help me teach English to my native German students :)
Hi ! To my mind it would be great if you could make one reading video, where you will give us a text and then you pronounce it .Then we will all repeat it during your video. It would be amazing . Thank you Lucy

Hi Lucy
FYI regarding Insurance verses Assurance, and insurance pays out 'if' something happens whereas an assurance pays out 'when' something happens.
That is life assurance pays out when you survive for a given period or die during that period, one o the other will happen.
Assurance policies will pay out.
Insurance will only pay out if the event insured against happens
Lucy: pair number 5 is inquire and enquire.
Acquire: *hello there*

Don't apologize, please. I believe you say both, don't you ? British people are known to be the epitome of politeness and aloofness, but in fact, you Americans are not bad at it, either. I think it's both cultural and favored by the English language itself.

In Canadian French, especially would be ''surtout'' and specially would be ''spécialement''. I never realized that! Thanks, i won't make the mistake again!
Please explain the difference between “despite of” and “in spite of” and also, is it “cancelled” or “canceled”

You're doing a good job
Mam, I realy love your teaching style. I'm Sri Lankan and trying to learning from you.
Thanks a lot, Lucy! It's a great helpful video indeed. Merry Christmas!
I submit that 'inquire' ought to stay if we had to pick one. This being due to the word's origin and it seems that 'enquire' is a variant. However, if we keep both words then I suggest 'enquire' when one is asking for one's self and 'inquire' when one is asking on behalf of someone else.
You're surely a life saver Lucy! I've learnt a lot from you. But if anyone would recommend me a channel that teaches and speak Northern English accent I'd appreciate it a lot.
