Hi Lucy - I am a native English speaker (Australia) and work as a technical writer. Those confusing words are the very ones where I have to STOP and THINK! Now I have your pdf sheets for future reference.
Using bring and take in this video surprised me because I'd never used them wrongly. Turkish is my mother tongue so maybe it helps to know differences between verbs cause we always separate them by meaning
I remember by associating the E or A with a another word as a hint. So: "thE Effect, cAn Affect." The effect = noun, the thing. Can affect = verb, can do something.
I'm a native speaker of American English and I remember when I was watching one of your videos the subtitles said 'practise' and I was just like "Weird but eh, probably just some thing in British English" AND I WAS RIGHT.
Hey Lucy! I'm practicing English accent your videos are literally helpful for me in many ways. And also your American accent was hilarious🔥. Hearfull of love from India 🇮🇳
@@DaveSmith90559 I can’t say properly how long the time is but I do love watching her videos. And I recognized her as an English teacher on RUclips definitely after Emma and Vanessa.
@@sachiniramasinghe9678 Well, there you go! I've been watching Lucy 'n' Vanessa as from 2015 and Emma since 2016, they were starting their projects as I can remember.
With effect, the way I always remember is cause and effect. examples. 1. Supply and demand: If there is a lower number of a product in the market but a high demand for that product, the effect of the price of that product with raise(this also goes the other way.) 2. Inflation: If there is a too much money in the market, the effect will make price of goods go up so that companies can take that money in.
My neumonic device for "affect" and "effect": I affect others and they have an effect on me. It works in my mind to think of an affect moving (verb) away from me and an "effect" physically on me (thus being a noun as something is on me).
To be honest I think that Lucy not only has got such a great and pleasant voice and the knowledge she supports us with is so valuable but also as a man vulnerable to women's beauty I really think she is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen in my life. Hi Lucy, your videos are really great! Even as a native speaker I watch your videos to brush up grammar. At times, I struggle with using 'is' and 'are' and using plural and singular verbs like 'include' vs 'includes'. Would you be able to do a video on that please?

I actually have a very useful hack which will make it easier to differentiate between affect and effect: when you want to use affect or effect while writing and don't know which one to use, simply try replacing it with the word 'result'. if 'result' fits in the sentence, then you should use 'effect' and if not, use 'affect'. For example in the sentence 'Weather affects/effects crops', replace the word with 'result.' It'll be 'Weather results crops.' It doesn't fit in the sentence, therefore use the word affect for this sentence. If result would have made sense in this sentence, we would use 'effect.'
Thank you for your videos Lucy! I love languages (especially English). I consider myself fluent in it, but this videos are making me aware of a lot I didn't know. So thank you for improving my English, and giving me some headaches as well hahaha. Greetings from Chile!
