    I love Ruger firearms. I have a few guns by them already, and their customer service is awesome. You're right, an AR is an AR is an AR but to me the customer service and quality are the best. Don't mean to sound like an employee of theirs but I've never had any issues with them.

      daniel oblinger I’ve heard this multiple times Daniel. I for one agree with you entirely. They’ve taken care of me every time I’ve needed assistance. It’s been just a couple, and both times admiringly my own fault, but they’ve held up their end of the bargain and more anytime I’ve reached out. Glad to hear it brother!

    Seems like you got a pretty good deal on that Ruger. The 1 in 8 twist rate has nothing to do with 8 seconds as you said in the video, the 1 in 8 twist is one full revolution of the bullet for every 8 inches of barrel length.I really like my Ruger AR 556, seems to be a good rifle and it shoots well. The only thing I don't really like is that the bolt carrier has the an unshrouded firing pin, not that it has caused me any problems. Good looking rifle, I think you will enjoy it, thanks for the video.

      @wtfjoe3276  4 года назад +1

      I had to rewatch that part just to hear what you could have mistaken for “8 seconds”...but no, I most certainly said that. Lol ..I definitely meant inches. Thank you for pointing this out. I was fast talking and looking at the phone screen and totally didn’t hear myself. Lol
      For the record .. 1:8 = how many spins:how many inches of barrel it takes to do so

It too has it. I’ve actually not seen that style for quite a while..odd, but Even the cheapy off brand ar’s I see locally have it. Be sure to check your bolt carrier group on your new ruger ar556! I shot mine about 40 times and when i cleaned it i noticed metal flakes! Got to looking and the lip on the front part of my bolt carrier was flawed and it had been chewing the hell out of the upper! I bought a new nickel bolt carrier from palmetto and its working fine now but was not pleased with this Ruger! The reason i bought the Ruger to begin with is because its supposed to have the best bolt carrier group out of the cheaper ARs..... I wasn't going to send it back and wait 6months to get it fixed or replaced by ruger so my 700$ Ruger has now cost me 900$!

    • @Mahasattva27
      @Mahasattva27 3 года назад +1

      Actually, Ruger is really good with these kinds of problems. I called them about buying a part on my Ruger 22 handgun which recently broke. I bought the gun 32 years ago. They told me to send them the part and they would replace it. It took approximately a week to get it back. I was amazed at their service. Never expected them to replace a part on a gun I bought decades ago and shot 1000s of rounds through.

    • @MikeNaples

      Maybe I got a lemon (new 556 MPR a few weeks ago) but my impression of the Ruger BCG is that it is poorly machined. A high quality BCG can be taken apart and reassembled without a f@#king hammer and a pry bar. I realize they can be a little stiff when new but this one is near impossible. No complaints with the gun though, using a bolt from another AR and the MPR runs like a charm.

    • @heavymetalredneck7973
      @heavymetalredneck7973 3 года назад

      @@MikeNaples the BCG in mine was definitely flawed so i had to replace it with a nickle BCG from palmetto armory, the rifle is working great now but I sure wasn't happy with having to buy a 200$ BCG from a different company. I will post a video on my page later showing the flaw in the BCG that I found and what it did to my rifle.

    • @heavymetalredneck7973
      @heavymetalredneck7973 3 года назад +1

      @@Mahasattva27 it wasn't that i was worried about dealing with Ruger it was more not wanting to wait an extended period of time for a replacement part being there is/was a global "pandemic" that had basically shut the world down. I bought my rifle about a week before the "pandemic" was mentioned on the news and I had it for a couple of months before i noticed the flaw while cleaning the rifle.

    Both my 5.56 caliber AR-15's are made by Ruger. Like you I have the 18 inch 556 MPR and the regular 16 inch AR-556. Only difference i see from you is my standard AR-556 has a carbine length gas system and had carbine length handguards as well as an A2 front sight post. Looks like you have a free float handguard similar to what's on the MPR. The front sight post does make it a little front heavy but for now i'll keep it. I put new handguards in and put a Vortex Spark II on top, as well as upgraded the trigger. The trigger on the MPR is excellent, the trigger on the standard is mehh, kind of heavy. The MPR is good to go, there's very little to upgrade on that gun besides getting an optic.

      fireguy964 yep..the mpr trigger does indeed break cleaner , reset sooner , and I know by measuring the break that it’s lighter. Not enough for me to notice, but I’m sort of spoiled by geisselle triggers in other rifles that I shoot more often.

      In comparison to 2019, yes. As of now, well you can still find some cheaper depending on where you look. Check some local gun stores. One with the metal handguard should go for $899.
      However, if you are concerned about not getting one before a potential ban, then you decide whether it's worth it.

    I have the same one but having issues when I go to load and shoot the round seems to get stuck like its not ratcheting from the mag ,also have had a couple miss fires where the firing pin would hit but wouldn't go off any suggestions on the problem?

    • @wtfjoe3276
      @wtfjoe3276  4 года назад

      WOLF _GAMING1987 my guess is with the light strike by the firing pin is that it was the first round of the mag, is that true? I say that because typically that will happen only when your bolt carrier isn’t fully engaged to the front of your chamber. How does this happen you ask? Have you ever loaded your fresh mag into the rifle, grabbed the charging handle and pulled it back, then “rather” than letting it go while pulled all the way back you sort of gently let it slide forward while maintain control of that slow steady forward stroke? That causes this issue, then typically once you actually fire a round, the rest of the rounds shoot just fine, does this sound familiar? The mag issue not cycling I would guess it’s because it needs a bump to the bottom. That’s also one of those things that you need to be aggressive with especially with fully loaded magazines. When inserting the magazine hit it with the palm of your hand like you are slapping it up into the rifle. If this keeps happening when you are shooting then I would consider throwing marking that mag “training only” so that you can practice only with it and don’t use it as a self protection type item. Try loading 29 rounds in your magazine instead of 30. This is something I do to make it a little easier to get a good seat on the mag as well. I hope this helps. Feel free to let me know if none of this sounds relevant and I will figure out something else for you.

      Wolf Gaming 1987 take the BCG out of the weapon strip it down and soak it in mineral spirits, or 90% rubbing alcohol use a stiff toothbrush to scrub all the part and q tips to swab the inside of the BCG after everything is clean dry the parts off and use compressed air or a hair dryer to ensure there's no moisture left behind, oil everything down with your chosen gun lube and reassemble the weapon, sometimes the shipping oil used by the manufacturer dries out and becomes caked inside the BCG similar to Cosmoline used to preserve military surplus weapons causing the issues you mentioned hope this helps.

    That's not a model 8514 as you said because 8514 is the MPR with 18'' chrome moly barrel and 452 trigger. So what model is it?

    • @wtfjoe3276
      @wtfjoe3276  3 года назад +1

      Joe you’re correct. This rifle was however the 8514 mpr, with the chrome “lined” barrel. The thing that threw a few viewers and myself off when I was talking about it is that the rifle previously had the upgraded stock as seen on a factory mpr on it while in this video one of the mil spec type stocks like what is found on the ruger 8500 models was what was on it. The factory mpr flash suppressor was also swapped out for the more standard bird cage type one that again was on this rifle at the time. A couple of small details that would’ve been noteworthy when I spoke about this and likely confused a few people who look at it as though it came in this exact form. Also, while rugers “elite 452” trigger comes factory in the mpr line, I haven’t found it to be night and day better than the rest of the single stage triggers offered in the rest of their line. Have you? Anyways, Thanks for the question and input, I definitely appreciate any information that helps me pass along more accurate reviews or tips to fellow 2a folks.

    • @Sword5000
      @Sword5000 3 года назад +2

      @@wtfjoe3276 That is actually a model 8529. It has the standard single stage 7.5 to 8.5 lb milspec trigger. It has the 16 inch barrel. I have the 8529 and the 8514 MPR 18 inch barrel. Yes the Elite 452 trigger is fantastic at 4.0 to 4.5 lb trigger. Both are great guns but the Elite 452 trigger will spoil you the first time you shoot it. But I prefer the 16 inch barrel of the 8529. So if I put an elite 452 trigger in my 8529 it will be my gun of choice. The Model 8542 is just like the 8529 but comes with the 452 trigger, 16 barrel and a longer hand guard and longer gas system.

    I like the look of the free float handgaurd, okay, a lot better.
    The mpr has a midlength gas system which I desire to have
    So, I guess I'll just have to get 2 more. Done and done
