Your observations are right on John. I have had both and Clynelish right out of the bottle is thicker, viscous, waxy with ton of tropical fruit notes. The Craigellachie comes off as untamed from the neck pour and then settles down over time. Both excellent choices. Cheers!

I love them both..I have had several bottles of the Clynelish and at present have two 14s open ...one is older with a different label and tube.
I recently ran across the Craigallichie 13 and I love it. I can get it for $47us..the 14 is $45-49..
Two of my least expensive whiskies and two of my favorites.
I would highly recommend them both..
    Cheers.
So great to these side by side.

I was really impressed by the Craigellachie 13 and reminded me of the oil you find working in a chip shop. Great battle and added Clynelish to the watch list. Cheers.

Craigellachie is non chill filtered and hence more oily. Clynelish is not.

Nice comparison. These do feel like almost whisky cousins, but maybe that's because I discovered them at about the same time. Two of my favorites that I'll always keep on hand in my collection. I too would love to try the Craigellachie 17, but the price is a steep hill to climb from what I've heard is the marginal improvement in experience.

Agree the 17 is not worth the $$$
However the 23 is a different animal but comes at a very steep price.

Love that Clynelish 14, get that Prickly pear and definitely some scotch mist with a 2 water bottle caps of water. I have some thoughts but need to do a review soon. Keep it up!

i love them distinctive meaty flavored whiskeys. craigellachie marketers, latch onto your heritage and release a NAS "meat lovers" cask finish.

Hey John nice review. I'm the opposite, the Diageo 14 is way more expensive and doesn't offer the engagement that the Craig13 does.

Definitely 2 camps. That’s what motivated me to compare these 2. I certainly appreciate the dirty complexity of Craigallachie13.

In my personal opinion the Craigelllachie 17 is far better value than the 13 (cost to quality ratio & individual characteristics), the 23yo for me oversteps the the value mark, but we are all different when it comes to whisky. Wouldn’t replace any of my Craigallachies, believe there are better options in everyone of their price brackets.

I’ve heard good things and someday hope to try the 17 but question the hundred dollar increase for 4 more years.
      Appreciate your feedback and nudge.

Or perhaps the 13 is underpriced/ undervalued in comparison

@@justwhisky I’ve taken the dangerous step down the Campbeltown & Islay whisky road, so for the last 2 or so years I’ve been exploring whiskies with the “funk” or peat/smoke influence, which is a very expensive journey. Would place Talisker from Isle of Skye in the same bracket.
Clynelish 14 & I, have a love hate relationship, depends the day, on whether we want to be friends or enemies…. 😂🤣😂🤣

@@janteun3 kinda agree but Clynelish 14 suffer greatly from batch variations… some great some subpar… and that sentiment is wide spread throughout the whisky community including Clynelish super fans… Ralfy being one of the bashers…
