Sour eggnog is a note ill have to remember and dwell on a bit more. That might be the note I have been trying to pinpoint in a few rums. Have you ever gotten that note on cachaça
Sounds great and if it’s going to a great cause I’d buy it. Having said that I most likely won’t see it so I’ll live through your experience. Thanks I subscribed so hope to see more!! Enjoy!!
@@umami0247 oh so cool 😎…really appreciate your support 🙏 Cheers 🥃
Hi John great review and I am currently enjoying this whisky and I have to say they are doing things right at Ardnamurchan. Slàinte
Wow....I guess that's why so many different scotches are available. I am COMPLETELY "upside down cake" from your rankings. Excluding the 2024 (which I'm in the process of acquiring), my top to bottom is reversed from yours, which I find very interesting. I do enjoy them all though. Cheers All!
@@dramyankee2914 it takes all kinds to ride a bus… subjective for sure! Enjoy the new one! Cheers 🥃

Nice review, John. I had a single Oloroso cask (59.8%), and it was pretty hot. This batch sounds a lot more integrated.
@@whiskywhereabouts thanks… too bad about your cask… they are still a young distillery… a few more years and they will be hitting their stride hopefully but yes they make great whisky. Cheers 🥃
Sweet with a pleasing bit of sour/licorice sounded nice. Add a dash of cigar wrapper and it's winner! Cheers!
@@WhiskyNeighbour wrap it up and take it away 😅 This is Whisky… Cheers 🥃
Hey John, So glad you got around to reviewing this one. Like the first batch, I really enjoy this one. As long as they continue producing high-quality stuff, I hope to always have their cask strength batches on my shelf. To me, the 05.23 has some slightly darker, deeper notes than the 02.22; I think the "sour" note in that first batch was a little more pronounced--overall, more trebly, not as much bass. I wish I was able to try the second batch, but I snoozed for a minute and when I looked up, it was just...gone. Not surprisingly, I heard only solid reviews. Both that I've had play a bit coastal to me, too. A little buttery with time and air. There's a difficult-to-define oomph factor in it, perhaps it's own Western Highlands funkiness (?) that's just lovely.
@@andynelson5864 well said Andy… I couldn’t have said it better! Like yourself I missed the 11/22 second batch… would have been nice to see the evolution…but here we are enjoying an almost perfect whisky…. Definitely improving with time… my prediction is 12 yr will be the sweet spot. Cheers 🥃
Great review John and nice to tell us about the comparison with the previous releases. This one sounds like a delicious one. I'll be looking out for it, cheers!

Oh I wish this Ardbeg was $92 here!! Way more! Coreyvreckan is almost $200 with taxes. Having said that we just opened a new bottle! Love having 3 Ardbeg BizarreBQ on hand! I wish it was part of the core lineup!!
@@christinecamley $92 not bad price…. Corry here is still under $100… Cheers 🥃
@@justwhisky I love my Canada - no Trump!! - yay!! - but I wish we had more affordable scotch prices and a stronger dollar!! 🙂
I don't worry about the NAS. I liked this Ardbeg special release. Yes I am very cautious about buying special releases but I had fun with this one! NAS peated whisky can be damn delicious! I do wish Ardbeg would skip the gimmicky writing and focus on their core line up!! Sutty, ashy, delicious!!
@@christinecamley I know you are an Ardbeg fan…I am overly critical due to their mostly overpriced marketing. Have you noticed any drop in quality in their core range? Just curious… if it’s still at the level it once was? Or maybe batch variations? Cheers 🥃
@@justwhisky I agree John. Their gimmicky marketing drives me insane. I don't want to pay for Ardbeg's ridiculous marketing. I have noticed a drop in the Ardbeg Ten. Perhaps slightly so in the UIG. I recently opened a new Coreyvreckan and I found it lovely right from the neck pour. I do hear several people speak about a drop in quality in the core range and IMO that's where Ardbeg should be focusing all efforts to make the best scotch possible - high quality! I am with you in agreement! I hope you are having a lovely summer John!! 🙂
@@christinecamley thanks Christine… you echo what I’ve been hearing lately… much appreciated! Cheers 🥃
@@justwhisky You are so welcome John! I always enjoy chatting! Have a lovely day! 🙂
Great review. Always helpful to compare the new one in the context of the prior releases ... Cheers!
@@whiskywhereabouts my pleasure 😇 Cheers 🥃
I agree with your review 100%: I like the '23 more than the '24. Maybe it's because sherry and peat are not my favorites (the '24), and maybe because wine finish/maturation and peat are some of my favorites (like the '23 and many Port Charlottes). The '24 is delicious and nicely balanced, don't get me wrong, but the '23 is extra special for me-it's like a Laphroaig take on the Port Charlotte formula.

Great review John. Glad to hear you've enjoyed last year's as that's the bottle I managed to get hold of a few months ago. I have been on the fence for getting this year's as it's not available locally. I will have to source it from out of province so the additional cost of getting a bottle has kept me away. Maybe I will wait for a few months to see if it shows up to avoid the hassle. Cheers to the summer🍹

You're bang on John on the reason for watering down, above 60% is super heavily taxed in India. Almost 9 years puts this whisky pretty close to the age of the Greedy Angels releases. I'd say this is a better buy. Cool whisky, even cooler reviewer. Great work man.

You can being that Redbreast back to band practice anytime! As a bourbon drinker i will say it did NOT strike me as an Irish Whisky at first. Wasnt extremely peety for me which i enjoyed. Also the sherry finish was very calming on the pallete

It’s a lot it’s pricey here in Vancouver!! Cheers! Oh! Have you had Loch Lomond 12? Yikes!! A friend suggested it’s awful! I will give it away! Hubs dislikes it too!
Hmmm….. I quite liked my L12 from 3 years ago… especially for only $32 at the time. Maybe you had a bad batch ? Happy to hear you are enjoying the R PX!!! Good juice! Cheers 🥃
@@justwhisky Thanks John! he LL is about $75 here before taxes and that's a good price for scotch locally but it was just very unpalatable. It certainly could be a bum batch. I should try another bottle to see out of interest. I am happy you had a good experience! Wow $32!! Amazing! I hope you are having a terrific summer!! 🙂
holy shit man 7 minutes of gibberish, fellas save your time, video starts at 7 minutes
This was fun to watch :) I've always been curious about that Springbank Rum cask but like you said, mixed reviews. I completely agree with you on Springbanks needing to increase their abvs slightly as they get older. Man I really need to get my hands on an IB Jura, seems where the party is at. That Old Pulteney 17 was a beauty. Cheers John, some great whiskies meaning some great memories. 🥃
Thanks 🙏 These are fun to do! But probably be another year until the next walk down memory lane… Cheers 🥃
At first glance, my initial thought was, "So THAT'S where all the Campbeltown juice is going!" Impressive! Me? I'm quite fond of the Kilkerran Heavily Peated batches. As for Ardnamurchan, that 02.22 was well beyond 8/10 for me. I blinked and missed out on the 09.22 but have been loving the 05.23 (I bought a backup recently from a slightly more expensive local shop I use for such emergencies). I'm sure you had a great ride getting through all those bottles! Imagine the price those 18-21 year-old Springbanks would fetch at, say, 50% ABV. Like, horror-flick scary!
Greetings Andy, Yeah that A 02/22 could probably score higher but if that was a 9, and the 09/22 was a 10, and the 05/23 was an 11….😳 If/when they get into age statements…. Spinal Tap scores I’m sure! Cheers 🥃
Excellent walkthrough of the empty bottles, John. To bad that the older bottlings seem to "drown" a bit for you being too quiet or subtle, lacking "oompf" to really impress you. I think, I understand you, actually. even if I don't experience the same. Cheers! 🥃
Thanks Benny! I enjoy doing these trips down memory lane. I have high expectations for older SB’s and K16’s… especially with the high prices… and for me I find they lack that Wow factor with standard 46%. Cheers 🥃
Wish more distilleries would give us residual ppm. Do you know if they measure the phenols after aging or before? I only ask because it seems that the CS is 32% more ppm than the non cs, which correlates with the whisky strength being 32% higher than the non cs.
Pre distillate peated barley vs Post distillate ppm. Cheers 🥃
