Raw Craft with Anthony Bourdain - Episode Six: Dufftown

- Опубликовано: 6 июн 2024
- In this episode of Raw Craft, Anthony Bourdain heads to The Balvenie distillery in Dufftown, Scotland to explore the magic and tradition of whisky making practiced there since 1892. Meet the special group of Scots who have kept the age-old process of single malt whisky making alive over the generations. Episode directed by filmmaker Rob Meyer.
Hundreds of years of experience go into making of each batch of whisky. From the cooper to the malt Man to the coppersmith - it's a craft the whole way through. Legendary Malt Master, David Stewart in his sixth decade, guides the ship making ground breaking whiskies along the way. Each craftsmen is dedicated and serious about their work resulting in some of the best whiskies in the world.
The Balvenie Distillery alliance with craft is a result of the brand’s choice to embrace the old way. Balvenie is dedicated to the process of using the five rare crafts of Scotch whisky making to create The Balvenie’s distinctive taste and exceptional quality. It is the only distillery that still grows its own barley, malts in its own traditional malting floor, employs coopers to tend every cask, a coppersmith to maintain the stills and a malt master to ensure the resulting spirit is consistently excellent.

How every company should advertise. Give me some value instead of slapping me in the face with stupid ads. Great Work!
Pituvision well put
I’m so happy I found this series by accident, I miss Anthony’s style, he has an amazing way of telling a story!
I had no idea this show was on. I miss Anthony Bourdain.
I'm the same. Completely stumbled across this, even though I have seen pretty much every other show he's done. I'm so glad I did.
What I was just thinking
Ditto
Same here. He is so deeply missed. I found it interesting that Anthony was such a fan of whiskey from The Balvenie, my favorite.
Anthony, I miss you so much. Your taste and knowledge could not compare to anyone. Your eloquence, your compassion , and understanding of the struggle of all who work in the kitchen is unknown to any who have not been in the kitchen. God bless you and your family.
This episode is why I love Anthony Bourdain. He's the perfect guest to meet and converse with the men and women at distillery such as Balvenie. I can't think of anyone else who could do it better. My thoughts go out to you and your loved ones. I'll raise a glass of Balvenie in honour to you. Thanks for the memories. Slainte Mahath.
well said,.......'
Slainte!
The world misses him.
You had a gift, Tony. You really did....
What they do is what they are. That's what he will be remembered for. He put the people who do great things first in all of his shows. And he was one of those people himself. without eveb realising it.
This series was absolutely wonderful, more please Mr. Bourdain!
Sadly our friend has left us!!
Straight from the cask! Those samples must have been beyond delicious.
Buying a Balvenie just for Bourdain
I just bought the 21 yr port finish. My first Balvenie.
He just had this incredible ability to find heart in everything he did and everything around him. It's like he could reach in, touch the soul of these wonderful people, and bring it out so we can all feel the same. I truly miss this man.
I like when the dude at the end pulled the whiskey out of his pants and Bourdain drank it. 10/10, would watch again.
This has been really wonderful to watch. I am glad there are people who still do things the right way.
Enjoying a dram of Balvenie 12 Doublewood and raising it to the memory of Anthony Bourdain!
🍻
If I drank whiskey, I would be having a shot of it in honor of you Anthony Bourdain. My deepest condolences. Wish we were still hearing your voice.
Wow, that was amazingly crazy good. Indeed
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SERIES. Anthony Bourdain narrates the best. He is the next Morgan Freeman!
I wait patiently every few weeks for a new episode of Raw Craft and it is truly awesome the people that keep these traditions alive. I really hope the series continues as its something I have shown so many people and they all love it passionately. Please please please make more!!!
Miss this guy. Love The Balvenie.
Malt master. Damn, that is a title of honor!
I miss him so much i started to read his work in my 20’s and was a huge fan of his shows. I’m 45 now and when I watch his television work it’s like hanging with an old friend I really am so sad he’s no longer with us.
Always appreciated how much Tony enjoyed Scotland.
This whole series is awesome but I really like this one.
Who the heck thumbs down this episode?! Why! Oh the humanity.....
a child
Baffling - perhaps it’s some sort of ‘dislike’ Tourette’s syndrome ( with apologies to genuine Tourette’s )
Please. Please. Please. Keep this series going forever!!! All of the episodes were done with spectacularly!
Fantastic series, RIP Tony
Man do I miss Bourdain. Would have loved to have a glass of Balvenie and a five minute conversation with him.
Sir Anthony, American royalty, showing the best of the world , with style ,charm ,humor ,and grace!! Thank you sir !!
RIP! One of my childhood heroes. You have inspired me to travel and discover new things.
I think Mr. Bourdain told a story like no other human being, dead or alive. The artistry and craftsmanship displayed in this series can be found in his writings and careful narration. Yep, he also certainly did it the right way....
Love and miss you, Tony.
Excellent production, thanks for sharing these. I'll likely add a Balvenie to my (mostly Islay) shelf next week.
I think you could have paid more homage and respect to David Stewart's immense skill. He is an absolute legend and one of the world's greatest masters, in my opinion. The degree of experience, nuance, and focus it takes to develop such an acute nose and palette is underestimated. It's a lifetime of dedication, like most crafts.
Balvenie is way above my pay grade, but this series. !! Wow.. Found number ONE, and then just let RUclips go from 1, to 2, to all six. Very enjoyable
I have to say thank you so much for bringing this absolutely wonderful show to us all. It has been an amazing experience as always with you Tony. Just like everything else you do, I can't not watch it. From your stories with people to the production value that you and yours bring to the table. It is always a joy. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Bourdain was the best ambassador of people and cultures because he celebrated people and the special qualities. He was an amazingly talented storyteller.
Go to Scotland, see Dufftown and the surroundings with your own eyes. Such a nice little quiet town. Friendly people and slow pace.
Plenty of family owned B&B to stay and relax.
This is beautiful and those guys are awesome. -- The old school way, the stupid way. I just love it!
Just a phenomenal craft...✊😎💯 Respect
I visited the Balvenie Distillery just a couple months ago. A wonderfully beautiful town, and a real once in a lifetime experience going through their facility. It was really cool seeing Bourdain checking out the place and showing real appreciation for the way they do things.
After watching anything with Anthony Bourdain I can find.. RUclips threw me a bone with this series. What an unbelievable loss to the world. You are missed. Incredible how you feel like you know someone personally through watching his life on camera. He had an amazing gift. So sad that light was taken 💔
Such a surprise.... how did RUclips know I would love this?
This is my first episode. It won't be my last. I love this kind of stuff! Thanks for this!
I have no problem at all with this sponsored stuff. Actually it worked, going to buy a Balvenie to try.
+Lars Nilsson BBQ n Balvenie Rules ;-)
+Lars Nilsson lets us know if its worth a try ?
steelnerve I was a fine whisky, though I more like smokey ones. Since I enjoyed the "commercial" it felt good to sponsor it a bit ;) Will probably buy a new, when this one is finished.
Lars Nilsson
cheers mate!
+Lars Nilsson Its almost certain you couldn't tell the difference in a blind taste test between this shit and cheaper shit, so why waste your money?
holy shit I miss this man.
Bravo!! Thank you Balvenie and Anthony!
I REALLY hope we can expect more of these. Absolutely some of the best, most important stuff on RUclips.
Season 2 is finished! Coming soon :)
is it old school? Is it magic? All I can say is I TRULY hope that crafts like this and the others shown continue to have teachers and masters so it is never lost. Absolutely beautiful.
nothing like coming across an old video of your favourite celebrity chef and all round amazing human being, visiting somewhere you yourself have visited in your own country. Anthony Bourdain was and always will be an absolute legend.
6:50 is a very interesting scene to me. Japanese whisky lurking around the corner of the Scottish masters. What interesting times we live in...
Man, what a good segment. I almost clapped when it was over. RIP Anthony.

Such a wonderful man, such a sad loss
I'll have an enhanced sense of appreciation the next time I enjoy my Balvenie. The love and commitment these folks have for their product is incredible.
This was a perfect collaboration for Anthony and Balvenie.

i cry when I see him. Years later he's still my boy. If he'd been my friend, I believe he'd still be here. Rest easy my friend.
So happy I found out about this show. Thank you so much for posting these videos, I love all Bourdain shows and I really appreciate people who take pride and care in the work they do......I don't care if you are flipping burgers or building NASA space shuttles take pride in what you do and since you are there doing it anyways why not do it to the best of your ability?
