    MMRDA Mumbai Monorail is a monorail system in the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, built as part of a major expansion of public transport in the city. The project was implemented and is currently operated by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). It is the first monorail in India since the Kundala Valley Railway and Patiala State Monorail Trainways were closed in the 1920s.[4][5] The system started commercial operation after partially opening its Phase 1 to the public in 2014.Monorail is running in 2 routes in Mumbai. Its cost of construction is lower than that of an elevated metro line but few companies in the world have this technology. That together with political uncertainty in 2015-18 period caused Chennai to give up (only one party took part in the bid as per reports) on this otherwise by now in two routes, this service would have been available by now

      I think the new Mumbai Metro is also failing because of many reasons such as the locations for the stations is areorly planned and Hardly 2-10 commuters per train being seen. Can u make a video on it as well

    Mono rail is not a failure in Mumbai. Now it's frequency is about 22 to 30 minutes. This is too much slow as per Mumbai standards. If it can be brought down to 3 to 6 minutes it will attract more travelers.
    It is a shame to see authorities are irresponsible in this matter.

I mean that will require almost 3-4x the no of coaches that is too much of an investment not to mention this is non-standardized rail lines and coaches that requires special maintenance staff, special training for such a small subsection of trains, entire staff that is trained with this system needs to be on duty, all in all drawbacks are just too much. Normal standard guaze and broad guaze is much much better

      accept it: dilli metro is by far the best metro & will remain that way till eternity.
      few factors that r important for metro success:
      * mid income working population size (shopkeepers generally live in shops or at walking distance, rich dont use public transport, poor people avoid hi tech things like metros, they live at walking distance or use traditional buses & tempos)
      * visitor population size (official work, job search, sex work, tourism, shopping, business shopping)
      * urban planning of existing city, poor plan affects all add up projects, dilli was well designed by edward lutyens...
      * correct time of implementing, too late for all cities, bcoz all people hav buyed homes & vehicles already as per needs when even metro plan was not there plus, urban plans were simply made without metro in thought, now the current plans r totally incompatible with metro plans...
      * size of urban sprawl, all cities r small compared to dilli-NCR, mumbai mmr is half the size of NCR core...NCR core population is 3 crore plus & daily outside visitors r in 2-3 million range...daily inner movement is above 10 million...which allows metro to share about 2-3 million passengers daily to keep head above break even point...
      * necessary evil factor, dilli ncr will just collapse without rapid transit system, so dilli metro will b kept alive & gud no matter what r the losses & headache involved...
      no one can handle 10 million vehicles on roads, 10 million plus inner movement, 3 million outside movemnt, VVIP traffic, foreign traffic...all at once and on daily basis...

    Mumbai monorail would have been successful if it would have connected with Ghatkopar railway station. In that case Ghatkopar railway station could become a big transit hub between local train, metro and mono

      no station in vashi naka and shankar deol . frequency is 15 minutes
      no connection to kurla or ghatkoper.
      this is reason of failure.

    In Mumbai Mono Rail roots, there are many Stations located in non residential areas like Pratikshanagar and Wadala free way, most stations are located in isolated areas, Monorails are not failure, there plannings are

    Monorails are perfect to connect Airport to main metro system or like in any entertainment zone or in any Business district because it's looks cool
    i would really like if Jewar / NOIDA international airport have monorail to connect it to Main metro of Noida but i think the metro tender already floated on that section :(

      Transportation system is form over function. No point in building it if after spending crores it fails to serve the main purpose, transporting people.
      Especially in India where we have massive crowds, a high capacity metro makes more sense compared to a weak monorail.
      Sydney removed their monorail after 30 years because of crowds and low capacity.
      Monorail have only seen success in cities where the topography is mountainous, making regular railway tricky to build with the gradient and space constrains.

      Metro System is more faster then Monorail. Especially if we consider Ruby-Rajarhat route.
      That's why government of West Bengal gave more importance to the elevated metro lines.
      But Mono rail will be effective in old city. Like Taratala and other congested routes where metro bridges are hard to build due to lack of Space.

    Have travelled in Mumbai's monorail. It has potential. But sadly, its network is way sparser. Today, its more like a joyride for Mumbaikars

    It can turn into successful project by connecting Wadala/Chembur Kurla BKC and Andheri. Next chembur/,wadala Kurla Kamani Sakinaka Andheri & Powai route.
    At present less connectivity to BKC and from these area. Please study and submit your infra suggestion to govt

    Monorail in Mumbai is built along the harbour railway line to east coast of Mumbai. Harbour railway line is already least crowded railway line, so there is no use of building another one. They should have built it between badlapur to dadar. Pura bharke jata 😅

    Mumbai mono rail is not a total failure, the second phase is now getting popular by locals, specially from wadala to jacob circle. Peak hour monos get full of standing passengers. And moreover, mono has frequency of 18 minute's! If that is reduced to 10 min or less, this would be even more popular. Yes the initial phase is disaster. Mono runs almost empty but after wadala stn mono actually recives good number of passengers

    Main Failure Of Monorail In Mumbai Is The Route....It Would Still Work If They Connect Mumbai Central And Vashi!!!
    After Frequent Failure & Loss They Are Running Short Of Coaches...Now Frequency Is Almost 30Mins Adding To More Loss!!!!

      It'd make big difference if they just extend it to Vashi. Also it passes through mostly industrial areas and big efforts were probably made by lodhas to aid it's township planning in Wadala. They just started it between chembur and bhakti park in 1st stage like why lol.

    Monorail was mostly used to transport people nonstop between two very populated regions. They have very few or no stops and many run non-stop and are a bit on the pricey side.

    Monorail did not fail 'Management' did.
    Yes, it is inferior to metro in many ways but Mumba's 'failed' monorail can easily be fixed by increasing FREQUENCY and ACCESSIBILITY

      @@AllInOne-bv1ti in chennai some areas are posh while some are old. This is similar in all metros. Tamil nadu has high GDP and per capita not because of one city. If you look closely there are so Many industrial cities specialised in a specific industry. In india average 34 percentage live in urban area while in TN 55 percentage is in urban area. More people in urban means more urban activity and more GDP.

    This mono rail is a right transport at wrong place this should have been from Thane Station via kalwa, mumbra ,shilphat towards kalamboli where it's needed the most with congested area and till today they are using maharashtra bus as their means of transport and this root will be the future extension of 2nd vashi

    monorails can be used in airports or in connecting lines of western central herbour or in places like csmt station to gateway marine drive etc near by places...its most advantage is it takes less space...in these places it will make easy also as from directly station to gateway or marine drive..like in these type of things we can use mono..in gateway it will give it a futuristic look also... u can make a metro bridge there so mono is best for conjusted places like these/...

      This is not the problem, the main problem is the population of where the monorail travels which is very low, and no commercial Office's or no expensive highlited resturant or places.

      It's not like this.
      But it's save cost and time.
      It's need of India.

      This train used by China for cheap transportation of goods, another reason Chinese books are cheaper than Indian goods. Chinese good extra tax compare than Indian goods if compare in percentage.
