  • In this video, I will show you how to repair the #ExpandableHose #Xhose, it is a very handy and light in weight garden hose however, it doesn't last very long. Mine burst a week ago and I only spent $3.50 CAD to repair it and I want to share my experience with you. I hope I can inspire more people to DIY. I am NOT affiliated with any of these products, companies or people, I just want to share my experience as a serious DIYer and try to help other DIY people out there. Great video to help people salvage things from the landfill! You may not need the new hose. My hardware store gave me two brass adapters: One from 3/8" hose (+ hoseclamp, just as shown in the video) to 1/2" threaded connection then another from 1/2" threaded to 3/4" threaded (garden hose size). Then you only have to do one hoseclamp. The rest is solid brass threaded connections. Maybe locktite in between the brass pieces to prevent them from unscrewing when you attach and detach the hose from the spigot. I skipped that. Thanks again for the helpful video!

      You are welcome!!! Yes, it saves the hose from going to landfill. But honestly, the fix won't last forever. The problem is the poor quality material in the first place.... oh well..

    I just purchased 2 and they lasted less than 2 weeks. Will be repairing mine, using your wisdom and will come back to let you know how it goes. Meanwhile, on the commercial advertising, I’ve noticed the actors draining the hose when they are finished using them. I now wonder if this is key to the problem and longevity of the flexible hose. After all, it’s a flexible hose for the purpose and probably not meant to have 24 hours of pressure held in it for that lengthy period of time.

    I am so glad I watched your video before I started cutting... here in the States Home Depot sells the metal connector and the two clamps for $5 in a package. So I already had the repair kit but your tip on clamping the inside rubber hose was a *tantrum* saver. I may get around to the actual repair before the rainy season starts 🤣🇨🇦🇺🇸 Take care!

    Ok, I'll give that a try. I always take mine inside for the winter and I don't have anything to stress the hose out on. I got a year before it leaked. I see the warranty on the one I bought was thirty days. Pretty flimsy product but there so handy to use and space saving. I'll see how my repair job does.

    I had a 50 foot expandable hose where the outside fibers separated about 2' from the spigot. It turned into a water balloon and exploded. Unfortunately, I trashed it. Just 10 days ago, I bought a new 75' hose from Home Depot for $40. I only used the hose about 5 times, ONLY using it to water plants about 10' away and NEVER stretched the hose out. Today, 10 days after purchase, the black outside fiber already completely tore right at the spray end, UNDER the 4" rubber protective cover. WTH? Thank you for this informational video, even though I plan on exchanging it for another piece of crap hose.

    I just got chewed out for leaving the pressure on one of these hoses while I took a five minute break from watering. Did I take a chance on damaging this hose or was it acceptable to leave it on for this short amount of time?

    Well mine snapped at the male end and it went inside right away and its a 100ft. It receded probably 20ft inside. I could cut the mesh at that point if that would work.

    Can I not just cut the leaking section out and use the hose connection that is there?

    • @viewer2759
      @viewer2759 Год назад +3

      Yes, that is what I did. I tried the video's method but the washing machine hose I got did not fit onto the PEX coupling that I had. Either my coupling was too big or my hose inner diameter too small.
      The problem with the Xhose brass fitting is that it is a two-piece unit that requires the black plastic compression ring to seal it. But that black plastic ring also blocks you from clamping the nozzle, because of its length.
      So this is what I did:
      1. Cut the Xhose to remove the leaky part (mine was close to the end where it attaches to the faucet).
      2. expose the inner tube; clamp it in place so it does not retract inside the cloth.
      3. cut the black plastic compression ring with a hacksaw so that it could still be screwed onto the fitting, but leave room for a steel screw-clamp. This compression ring is very important to prevent leakage where the two brass fittings attach to each other. I cut it so that all the threads were just covered, and I could see all of the brass nozzle where the inner tube will attach.
      4. screw the black plastic compression ring onto the fitting, finger tight.
      5. thread the steel screw-clamp over the cloth and inner tube but do not tighten it yet ( I used a 5/8 inch clamp)
      5. attach the inner tube all the way onto the end of the brass fitting nozzle.
      6. Pull up the black cloth "sock" as far as it will go, over the inner tube to cover it.
      7. Position the steel screw clamp onto the brass nozzle area where you have attached the inner tube. Screw the steel clamp onto the end of the fitting, over the area where the inner tube is attached, so that it is tight and will not move.
      8. Make sure washer is in the fitting before attaching it to a faucet.
      9 . Attach to faucet.
      10. Tighten the black plastic compression ring (which was cut earlier) finger tight
      11. Test the connection for leaks, preferably outside.
      I did this today on the fly. Seems to work (so far - no guarantees!).
      Had I known, it would have cost me only 1.29 for the steel clamp, even cheaper than the video, because I would not have to buy the brass fitting or the hose! But I do like the video's method as well, just need to get the right sizes of PEX coupling and hose.
      Another possibility I thought of while in Canadian Tire is to use a crimping device to crimp a seal around the inner tube and cloth. That way, you may not have to cut the plastic ring to accommodate the stainless steel screw-clamp. However, I did not have those tools, and it would have to be tight enough and allow the black plastic to travel over it.
      Anyway hope this helps! Sorry I did not have time to do a video to demo my method.

      @viewer2759 Год назад

      I forgot a step in my instructions:
      1B. Expose the brass fitting by unscrewing the black plastic compression ring, then removing the steel band which holds the cloth and inner tube onto the nozzle. I used a hacksaw and clamp.
