One small play pattern I don't think you really ever caught on to is that waiting until they draw to Surgical often isn't better in this deck, specifically against blue decks. You're opening yourself up to them drawing a force, but much more importantly a Brainstorm. At a time like 8:02 its much better to just do it on your turn. The fact that they are tapped out means its much better against the various taxing counterspells in the format, you don't give them an opportunity to draw force to protect their DRCs in hand, and as ended up happening it opens up Brainstorm not only to get a free shuffle, but remove any value waiting could possibly have because they put away the DRCs they may very well have had.

About the extirpate art: it's a split second thing. All the split second cards in time spiral block had a "split frame" effect. The intent was to show "this spell is *so fast*, it happens halfway through the art"

The original design for the card was an attempt to make a reworded, functional Word of Command. So Extirpate's art is a nod to that classic art. The attempt failed, so it was turned into a graveyard hoser instead, but the art was already in.

@@jackirby6660 Hi, I'm InsertName (the deck submitter) and I've played the deck in many iterations a good bit. Turbo mill is definitely a viable strategy for this type of deck, but in order to play a mill package you need to cut the powerful interactive spells, and the thing with mill is it doesn't do anything unless the game goes long. Court of Cunning really is the best way to mill the opponent, and it furthers the control plan itself. As far as Bridge goes, the trick with a deck built around giving your opponent access to all there cards (especially in a Mystical Sanctuary world) is that they will usually have an answer somewhere, and then you just die. I've never tried Ashiok, but I'm skeptical of it being better then the other options, specifically Court. It is easier to interact with, kills slower, and all in all is probably less value.

I understand your argument about the cards needing to be in the graveyard... but what about the extraction effects where you name a card? More expensive, yes, but after casting a surgical and knowing what threats are left you can just name them rather than trying to get them in the grave first. Unmoored Ego I think is the cheapest effect at 3 mana. It's also blue so can be pitched to force

In the deck tech states "this is a backdoor mill deck that takes out all the opponents threats" takes EI, ponder, force of will...? I think there was a huge play pattern issue with how this was done. The deck is awful if you're trying to one for one your opponent because there's nothing in the deck. I believe this deck could get a couple of non-combo wins if you only take things that can win the game, your opponent drawing into more draw helps the decks game plan.

I assume the play patterns of this deck are quite similar to lantern control. Where the specifics of what you exile are super specific based on the individual matches and revealed information in each game. I could also imagine the exact number of extractions/extripates needed to achieve "critical mass" would end up being super finicky. If you don't have enough in a game, then the opponent still gets to draw their remaining threat(s) and kill you. At that point all you've done is thinned their deck for them.

I played a similar deck years ago with and without Wastelands. I'm not nearly as good of a player as Bosh so take this with a grain of salt: if a game goes long and you've landed enough Surgicals and Extirpates, your opponent inevitably gets flooded with lands instead of cards that do stuff. Then stick a Jace and GG. Also, to win with a deck like this you have to start out fast; you can't afford to lose the mana of "wasting" a land drop on a Wasteland.

InsertName (the deck submitter) here. The deck originally played a more turbo mill plan, with Crabs and Traps, but as time went on it became more and more apparent that opening yourself up to removal with the crabs was not the way to go. Next I started play Tasha's Hideous Laughter and trap as the decks wincons, but Laughter obviously doesn't mill and was often lackluster against many of the top decks. It was then that I tested Court of Cunning, and it quickly became apparent that Court was the best wincon the deck could ask for, also furthering the control plan and singlehandedly winning the game. I was still playing trap at this point, but I realized that I never had trouble winning even in games I didn't draw it. long story short, Court wins enough on its own you just don't need the trap any more. I'd go up to 4 Court long before I play the first Trap.

I honestly think Teferi, Time Raveler should just be banned in every single format - not because it's "too good", but because it just makes games too non-interactive. Generally bad card design, please just get it out of everywhere.

hold up... that menu at 7:53... that really says GetDunked. what??? I don't play mtgo, so perhaps this is a well known thing. but to me, that is hilarious. I guess WoTC has a sense of humor?
