    Hi Sam,
    First, "A Headbanger's journey" is my fav metal doc ever but I dind't know you had a channel here! definitely I'm subscribing.
    And second, I like your review, and I appreciate you are playing the excerpt of the songs when you are referring to them, that helps a lot to catch the point.
    In my opinion "Brotherhood.." is the best metal record in 2016 (so far), it's a strong and solid release with many highlights: title track, "Pale King", "Seven Seals".... THRASH METAL!

      IMHO its legendary. Some more and it would be big 5. Anybody got reference in one song from Vektor? Absolute vektorsong. IMHO T evolved to big 5. What I love about mtallica is - constantly trying to create something genius. Sometimes, it kicks ass, sometimes I sit and think - nah, just another song, but how genius there are some parts though

    • @Gregbaltzer
      @Gregbaltzer 7 лет назад

      not even close. There's a lot of thrash records better than this. I'd put Exodus' Exhibit A and B above this. I'd put Sodom's new album. and self titled above this. The new Kreator is better than this. The new Sepultura is better than this. The last Voivod is better than this. The problem with this album, and I probably need to sit with it more, is the same problem that exist among many new thrash albums, there's absolutely no variance. Every song is approached the same way...straight head thrash attack. It's fucking boring because every song seems the same. I prefer albums that mix things up, and this album doesn't do that. It makes me miss the Testament of old. Early Testament had interesting riffs, and groove, and songs that weren't all the same tempo. This album seems for forgo great riffs in favor of blistering solos and fret work all over each song. It's an impressive album from a technical stand point, but as far as song writing goes I want memorable songs that I sing in my head after the album is over with and this, and the new Death Angel, once their over with I can't remember a damn thing from what I just listened to. Like I said maybe I need to sit with it more, but after 3 listens everything just seems the same. 5-6 songs in and my eyes start to cross because I feel like I've been listening to one long guitar solo.

    I wish you would talk more about the cover and the producer. A metal album is much more than just the musicians and the songs. it's the whole package, a Gesamtkunstwerk if you will.
    Think the album has a weak production but a great cover.

    "Muzzle the dog" Sounds like a great album/song title. I might use that Banger lol
    I dig this album a lot. In myopinion you can NEVER go wrong with the rhythm section they have right now if the song's are written well and indeed these songs are written well. Nice to see Chuck Billy diving into some David Icke territory and Peterson and Alex S are an incredible guitar duo. Dark Roots,Formation and now this album are all incredible!

    It feels good to hear Chuck really back in melodic territory. He was always one of the better clean singers in thrash to me. I especially go back and listen to the vocal work on The Ritual and it just blows me away. I know his voice has changed over the years (for a few years, when James Murphy was with them, he was doing a lot more death metal stuff, then he had the cancer which affected the voice a bit, and in general he's just not a 26 year old young dude anymore. His voice has deepened a bit as he's matured, as tends to naturally happen. Look at Robert Plant for God's sake!), but to hear him still have it after all these years just makes me feel good inside.

    2016 was a fucking great year for Thrash metal! In 2015 we had Slayer's new album which got us ready. Then 2016 brings us Testament, Megadeth, Metallica, Lost Society, Anthrax, Vektor, Death Angel, Sodom and Destruction. 2017 brings has so far brought us Sepultura (their best album in years), Kreator, Overkill and Havok and Reign of Fury have announced an album so thrash metal is definetly doing good

    Dude, your critique is absolutely spot on. Totally agree about the melodic parts- especially in the Pale King. They just don't fit and seem to take an otherwise head-pounding song in another (wrong) direction. Otherwise, this band is still incredibly talented and haven't lost their love for thrash. They played on the "American Carnage Tour" which rolled through Sacramento and positively destroyed both Megadeth and Slayer. Wasn't even close. Thanks again for your insights on this record.

    The entire album is based on the ancient aliens theory..
    Billy has stated that the album draws lyrical inspiration from the ancient astronaut hypothesis, namely through the Ancient Aliens television program. Furthermore, he said the title comes from the name of an ancient secret society.
    Which is fucking awesome 🤘
    My opinion, one of there best albums to date.. with the edition of Steve Digorgio (spelled wrong I know) and Gene Hogland on drums this has got to be one of their best lineups
