    Kreator is so underrated . They should be right up there up there with Slayer and Metallica

    • @bschuler6216
      @bschuler6216 7 лет назад +24

      They surpassed Slayer about 15 years ago, and left Metallica in the dust 25 years ago. Kreator reign supreme atop Thrash Mountain.

    • @420MusicFiend
      @420MusicFiend 7 лет назад +10

      Oh for sure. I meant in a worldwide recognition sense - not in a musical sense

    • @bschuler6216
      @bschuler6216 7 лет назад +12

      Oh, I see. Yeah, you're right. I don't think Kreator will ever be as popular as Metallica or Slayer, particularly as far as name recognition. That ship has sailed. But within the metal community, I think they get a lot of deserved credit; and, as time goes by, I think their reputation will only grow stronger, as more "popular" bands' reputations will diminish, for those in the know.

    • @420MusicFiend
      @420MusicFiend 7 лет назад +6

      Yeah that's a good point. In the "popular opinion" they may be lesser known but I think most hardcore metal heads would/do give Kreator just as much credit as any commercially well known band.

    Satan is Real could be Cheesy but those riffs and legendary chorus make it so epic and evil. I love this album

    • @LosTroopos
      @LosTroopos 7 лет назад +2

      Well that's Kreator for you... On the first few albums there was Total Death or Pleasure to Kill, on later albums you got Enemy of God or Amok Run. all cringy typical topics the angsty 18-year old would write about. But boy, do they make them thrashy and epic.

    This is an excellent review and reviewer. I like the approach, the way this review is cut and I think the reviewer Sam Dunn here has an excellent method of telling this story. I never knew about this channel unfortunately but I'm in. Subscribed. This is excellent content, I like the album but I like the prospect of this channel and Sam Dunn doing metal album reviews even more. Fantastic upload. 5 of 5 skulls on my review scale.

      BANGER You are welcome. If Sam Dunn's documentary "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" is any indication of the quality and the approach to the reviews then there is a lot of content that I am going to enjoy on this channel. Shame on me though for not knowing about Dunn or Banger. Just one of those things that shows how big the internet is, I suppose. I'm a huge lifetime metal fan and a documentary nut -- and yet somehow still never saw that doc (maybe because of where I live or something?) and until today didn't know about Sam Dunn. Shame on me. I've just been really impressed at the quality of what he puts together - from what I've seen so far. Thanks for taking such an intelligent and methodical approach to reviewing metal albums. I'm glad something like this exists in glad to take part in it. Metal is one of those things that I constantly hear is on an upswing. Instead I think of it as one of the more steadily impressive genres of music and it needs the intelligent & detailed journalistic coverage I've seen so far here. If something is always on the upswing to me that it means it's always performing pretty well and gaining new fans. Slowly, but still. The race is not for the swift but for who can endure it, right? New Sepultura and Kreator albums coming out in quick succession makes that race a lot of fun.

      I was searching for reviews on an album that I hadn't given enough of a chance, and it wasn't even Kreator it was Mastodon. From there I found myself on TheNeedleDrop and you guys were in the sidebar. I clicked on it because it appeared to be a high quality clip and high quality channel and that's exactly right on both fronts. I like technical reviews, and appreciate the song-by-song breakdown like you did in this Kreator one and it made the album sound excellent. Other outlets just don't cover music like that and the format really resonates with me. Not to mention that as a video editor I know how much more work that makes the thing as a project. I swear it is worth it because the quality of the review is 10/10 because of the interspersed clips. If this is Sam Dunn that I'm speaking to, Hi - you and your team are doing excellent work.

      Krzystov Mrozla arguably, along with Testament and Overkill.

      Normally, I would argue for OverKill, but Kreator has been putting out superior albums since 2001. I love OverKill, and I do kinda prefer OverKill's 80's output to the mighty Kreator. I'll give the early 90's to OverKill, too, while giving the later 90's to Kreator. Over all, I'd have to say that Kreator stands alone atop the Thrash heap. Testament is not on their level. Just my opinion, of course. I would also recommend checking out Dust Bolt from Germany, to all Kreator fans.

    As someone who just 'discovered' Kreator with this album I can understand why the fans of early Kreator don't like this. But since I'm usually listen to more modern metal, this album and its production blew my mind! The guitar tracks are nicely split between left and right, all the layers are crisp and clear and give so much depth. This was easily the best listening experience I had in years! Modern/young thrash metal bands need to take example, this is how you record/mix dual guitars. This album is so good!

    Fantastic review, very well thought out and seemed as objective as you could've been with this. The fact that you're also knowledgeable in some of the musical influences and what some songs reminded you of is a plus. I would've liked to hear what your favorite and least favorite songs in the album were and why, but it's not a big deal that it was left out. Kreator is, in my opinion, one of thrash's 80's original bands that really came back with a vengange in the 21st century, however, ever since 2001's Violent Revolution, Kreator kicks our asses harder and harder with every release. Loved, loved Enemy of God, then Hordes of Chaos, my head fucking blew up with Phantom Antichrist. But man ... Gods of Violence, again my opinion, may be Kreator's best album of the new millenium. Awesome band!! \m/

    I love this channel, and Sam Dunn is great! However, I must say I completely disagree with this review. I think the mix of thrash and power metal elements totally works! I mean, they haven't just tried to re-create what they did 20 years ago, they've added new elements to their sound, which I totally dig! To be honest, this may be my favorit album by Kreator -The melodies and Maiden'ish harmonies are something I hope they expand on through their next instalment :)

    The best Metal videos are almost always subversive on two levels. On the surface there is the subversive imagery, often having to do with the occult and then, just beneath the surface are the lyrics which can either be blatant or cryptic and filled with
    Metaphor. Either way, Kreator have mastered this.
    Love me some Kreator!

    The complexity of the riffs, added singing over them, specially in Army of Storms only proves how far fetched oblivious "thrash-elites" are. Dwell on criticizing one of the greatest bands, while I sit down and meditate to this majestic piece of work. Given, my favorite album is Terrible Certainty and I am familiar, like most people in this forum, with Kreator's past albums. Album of the year and along with Vektor's album last year, I will be good til I die.

    3 Satan is Real/Worldwar Now
    4 Gods of Violence (why the added acoustic intro :/ )
    The album focused too much on melody (literally every track). I could have used an extra heavy riff, bassline+drums or tempo change, but instead some melodies does not differ much from the others imo. The rest of the album is ok, but not so unique. Also, why have 3 acoustic/clean intros on an album with 10 songs? It doesn't add much, if it always has to FILL out some space.
    Still preferring Coma, Extreme Aggression, Pleasure and Terrible Certainty, but they definitely added some good songs to future setlists here! The solos are better than before!

    4:30 LOL ... Anyways, I like the variety of styles and moods, there were couple of pretty neat grooves too. Vocal parts sound brutal, and the overall sound is good. So I guess this is worth listening.

    Well, talking about thrash-legends... Why the hell were you not talking about the german thrash bands in your documentaries? Don't get me wrong, those documentaries are very useful. But why the hell did you not mention KREATOR, SODOM,TANKARD, DESTRUCTION or DESASTER? Those bands are the essence of thrash. They were coming from a real underground. There was a dying industrie in western germany in the 1980th and all the power and anger of the youth got together in this music. Have you ever benn watching "Thrash Altenessen"? I realy hope so. This was a time of legends with bands like RAGE, BLIND GUARDIAN etc.Please do not forget them!!!

    It's too cleanly produced. I went back recently and listened to all the old school thrash/death albums that defined the whole genre and they all had flaws in their production. They all had that low-fi feel and it gives them character. It gives them that flavor of aggression and the listening experience of being there with the band at a show.
    Albums like this one are just too polished in production value and it detracts badly from the feel.

      Teutone I love the more clean production. It fits their new, more melodic sound very well.

      I think we're on completely opposite ends on this. Clean production values have their place, but for stuff like thrash and the like, i find it completely lifeless and sterile.

      Teutone I know what you mean. The last album they put out with that sort of feel was probably coma of Souls.

    i mean sepultura doesn't even have any original members, plus there hardly even thrash anymore.
    i think the fact that kreator sounds more like iron maiden now is like the most og thing ever
    but like i said im just a dumb kid take my opinion with a grain of Jesus
