The Kriegsmarine wolfpack Hecht discovered and attacked the Allied convoy ON-92 heading west across the Atlantic on May 11th, 1942 sinking 7 ships. U-569 makes contact on the 11th and leads U-94 and U-124 to the convoy. The boats attack in the night and U-124 sinks 4 ships in 2 approaches, U-94 sinks 1 and U-569 gets a hit on a ship. The next night the other U-boats reach the convoy but only U-94 is successful, sinking 2 ships in 2 approaches. U-406 misses an escort due to torpedo failure. Then contact is lost in bad weather. The USS Destroyer Gleaves and USCGC Ingham are part of the escort along with the British rescue vessel Bury. Bury is the only ship equipped with a HF/DF unit.

@@sausageilluminati2602 that won't help against sonar, well ASDIC had a small range, so to evade them you need to be as far as possible. Preferably on or near on the seafloor to blend in. If there is no seafloor and it's close, dive to 200 meters as a last resort to hopefully be under the acoustic layer.

Tho, I'll note, Bury was not damaged in this engagement (none of three Destroyers were) I think 'Bury stands in flames' is like, the Bury is sorrounded by burning ships, not burning itself.
Bury was a rescueship, and carried a HF/DF device that should locate ships in distress. At this mission it failed.
The "Bury" was taken out of service in June 1958.
Adding another note, Ingham was not a destroyer. United States Coast Guard Cutter Ingham was a Treasury Class Cutter. After World War Two she would begin regular Coast Guard service until being called to serve again in Vietnam. Returning from combat in Vietnam she went back to Coast Guard service again until being decommissioned in 1988 with two Presidential Unit Citations. At the time of her decommissioning, she was the second oldest commissioned warship in service, second only to USS Constitution. She is preserved as a museum ship, you should go visit!

So, music has extraordinary power to express what cannot be said. Sabaton expresses that strength of the music. Wolfpack is an extraordinary song, but there would be no fullness without this perfect film montage. An outstanding project.

Well many UBoat crews are buried in Hampton Roads Virginia and they were buried with honor and the local German community takes care of their graves even to this day

note the terrible extent of convoy losses, sometimes a convoy lost a third of ships like ONS-154 which lost 14 out of 45...
but wolfpacks paid terrible price as well, out of 4 sailors serving the u-boots 3 died
