So many people need to speak up. As a police wife, I know how hard it is, but it needs to be done. If more spouses spoke up, perhaps fewer officers would deal with alcohol and drug addiction, burnout, and depression. Change is important and officers should embrace it, too. We need to get away from the militaristic, hierarchy stance within the institution so when someone spoke up, they aren't pegged as problem officers and prevented from moving up in the ranks. There should be independent, community based oversight committees that help construct the policies and procedures on behalf of the cities.

Thanks for contributing to the problem and not the solution. I got the impression that her message was for the entire graduating class, not just a specific group of them. Maybe all of the girls would like to think that she is a positive influence for any one of them regardless of their skin.
