***** Very true! I used to hate camera and recording anything with me in it because it was weird as hell and then I started vlogging and now I absolutely fine in front of a camera though only by myself so far. It's a good way to let things out too :)
I kind of like the awkwardness, it's kind of cute.
I used to be shy and nervous when I started making RUclips videos back in 2007, but over the years, I got a lot better at it.

I used to be awkward when I first started RUclips, I still am sometime but the best thing you can do is keep practicing. And definitely listen to your videos, keep note of things you want to work on and try to work on them next time.
And you're right Meg, talk about things you enjoy and try not to script too many things. Eventually you will feel comfortable.

I love that you say you started out being awkward, yet in this video you talk about how you get really excited about grading papers, that you're obsessed with socks, and describing how your ankle feels like an even point in your body. Are you sure you didn't plan this?

I have selective memory--I may have taken a few too many headers in my soccer days--so here is all I remember hearing from Meg's story about starting in college:
"I got started doing on-camera work in college" [portion erased from memory] "I did something dirty on camera." [portion erased from memory] "I got it off." [portion erased from memory]

That's how you know a book is loved, Meg! When they're lined and worn out. It's a sign they're well read. Many of my paperbacks have spines that are so lined, I can't really see the title on them anymore. I re-read my favorites every few months cos I can't help but to emerge myself in those worlds again! =)

Great video, Meg! Grading homework is why I didn't go into teaching. Reading and critiquing essays for English = too time consuming. Too bad there aren't Scantrons for that ;) Awesome thoughts on making RUclips videos. As usual, you rock.

Hey I'm on the second book too, and I've also been on it forever haha. Ask Meg is probably my favourite thing you do. As for timelapse suggestions, I'd love to see a timelapse of you making cosplay, or maybe take a photo an hour and put it together in a video so we can see the progress you're making.

I agree with all of these fellow vloggers. When you first start it can be a bit weird (especially when you have roommates or family who think you are weird for talking to yourself.) but over time it just becomes normal.
Something I did when I started was talking about set topics and writing down little notes. Over time I just kind of let my thoughts ramble on and let them take form in the video without writing or thinking of them before. Yes I am a small RUclipsr but I don't try to go big here.

I can tell you the show and the books have already deviated fairly significantly in a few areas though the basic idea of the story is the same. There are characters that do completely different things though. So I imagine you could go nuts with both and get the same level of enjoyment. I've just finished, and I still enjoyed 404 just as much as the last three seasons.

I understand completely. Whenever I have to wear mid-calf socks, I roll/fold them down to my ankle.

My uncle is kinda on the same career path in the way that he got a degree in education then became a dinner theatre actor, then toured East Asia with a cover band, but plans to become a teacher to "settle down" someday.
I saw that old footage, Meg lol you introed yourself as Megan Turney. You were adorable. (I like how Penny's like, nope she's talking to that big plastic thing again, I'm out)

I have to wear midcalf socks every day in the spring because i have lacrosse practice, and the cleats I have come up a little bit so I don't roll my ankle, so I have to wear the midcalves so I don't get blisters, but now I litterally have the worst tan line in the universe...
Actually, I one up myself because I have a solid stripe of tan on my forearm between where my elbow pads stop and my gloves start, and the rest is white, and a single dot of tan on the inside of my elbows where there is a vent in my elbow pads!

How does liking a video or subscribing to a channel help? Does it make it more likely for things to show up in my feed if I like a video? Is there any monetary gain for having a video liked (as opposed to viewed) a certain number of times? #askmeg

Don't forget that youtube is nothing more than a private social medium and doesn't exist as any entity which would support a professional career. Use it to advertise yourself and enhance your professional profile but don't make it your primary activity.
Side note: Protect your skin, the burns will result in severe damage later in life. Minimize exposure and use heavy sunblock when outdoor activity is necessary.

I'm the same way Meg!! When it comes to sock it has to be near a joint. If its not a knee sock, it has to be an ankle sock. :D
Also, I mark up really easily. So if I wear mid-calf socks I'll have sock marks for the rest of the night. Bleh.

Time lapse making a cosplay from start to finish.
My first video was a silly song I did in the middle of my local Starbucks. A friend had to hold my phone, film, and post it for me so I didn't edit it into oblivion. It's gotten easier since I got "Nerdy-o-Things" out of my head and onto film but it can still be tough to hit that record button (Followed quickly by the Upload) As always Just trying to help

Keep your pale skin. Don't try to tan. It's bad for your skin plus you're beautiful with pale skin...
there's nothing wrong with tanning every once in a while. as long as you can't be mistaken for an old leather purse or a dorito, you're pretty much in the clear.
do you make things other than costumes? if i could sew that well, i'd make all kinds of things!
