Automotive journalist in the past from certain sources have been responsible for stigma that have stuck to certain cars that some of us have found to be false. I guess they need something to talk about to separate themselves but THIS is why we love EVO. This is focused on what the car feels like to drive as intended. Not much else matters to the functional minded enthusiast. Thank you EVO for staying true to your customers and your own roots. Even thought I love all 3, The GTR R35 is the greatest of them all IMO. It was a record breaker during its time and it still has a very respectable performance 17 years after its first release and with suttle changes. For a very long period it was a benchmark in performance. Till today it is a top choice amongst tunners with some GTR’s reaching 3000hp+. It has a proven record of reliability. And most important, despite being so legendary, the GTR R35 is actually “buyable”.

The creation of the 1LR-GUE V10 was led by Lexus' chief engine designer, Okamoto Takamitsu. The engine starts life at Toyota's Myochi plant, where the engine block is made from molten aluminum. The block is then sent to Toyota's Honsha factory, the same facility that used to house Toyota's F1 engine operations. Here, the block gets milled, drilled, and polished, emerging as a precise engine block. In a sealed room, Takumis hone every sharp edge using precision polishing tools. After this, a highly skilled Takumi pre-assembles the finished engine blocks to check for precise fitment. Disassembled, they travel as a unit to Yamaha's Iwata city plant. It is at this plant that four highly skilled Yamaha Takumis fully assemble the V10. This process takes 2.5 days for one engine. Before the engine gets installed in an LFA, it undergoes a half day of exhaustive testing.

This includes the manufacturing of fuel cell stacks, which are essential for fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).

That unmistakable soundtrack tugs your heart every time you hear it - just think how much they might have saved on marketing ever since! I don't know why car manufacturers don't give sound the respect it deserves while building cars - it plays a very important role. Those are three absolutely great cars. I started getting really interested in cars in the 90s when I started to earn enough money to be able to buy a car. I couldn't afford a 22B but I could afford an Impreza Turbo, which is what I bought. I went on to buy a blob eye STI after that. I've had quicker cars since (e.g. M5 and my current car, an M4) but I had the most fun in my Imprezas. Modern cars are way too fast to be able to drive near the limit on a public road. That's one of the main reason why the Impreza was so much fun. It could move and was up for anything but I didn't have to risk a prison sentence to have fun in it.
Sadly, I've never driven a GT-R (I still think of them as Skylines) but the R35 is an amazing car. My boss used to have one but he didn't drive it to its potential so it was just a waste. The LFA isn't a performance car like the other two but it's beautiful and sounds absolutely incredible.

I thoroughly enjoyed 10 years of consecutive motoring owning three different Impreza Turbo variants (I was on the list to get a 22B Type UK but wasn't one of the lucky 15 to be drawn from that list) and have owned and savoured an R35 since 2009, she's getting on a bit now... The closest I got to an LFA was having a good look around a black one in the car park of Litchfield motors who had just imported one for one of their top clients who ran an F1 team at the time...

    LFA to me because:
    FR layout
    CF chassis
    V10 engine
Toyota budget to orchestrate the fine details to intentionally lose money in the process
22B is a hotted up Impreza
GTR has pedigree with Turbo/AWD to handle, but turbo is an easy way to make power and AWD is a crutch

I lived in Tokyo between 2000 and 2010. During that time i owned several awesome '90's JDM legends including a GCF WRX, Evo VI and an STi RA (which I still own). When i sold my Evo, i test drove a 22B and then the RA, both were aweome but the 22B even then was 3 times the price of the RA and I couldnt justify the cost given performance wise they were so close. To say I regret that decision now would be somewhat of an understatement.

A Hakosuka GT-R could be included in this group of three cars. If it was it would be my choice for dream car. And of course while I'm dreaming the Toyota 2000GT!

I could be misremembering but back in the day a lot of reviewers rated the 22B as a bit of a miss compared to say RB5. Perhaps modern rubber and exposure to 20 years of less engaging stuff in the meantime has changed that. Bloody awesome either way.

I was lucky enough to do a super car track day with multiple cars at Donnington. Driving the Aston Martin Vantage and a Ferrari F430 wasn't much different to driving my own car fast, was in a 330D M Sport BMW with 413lb/ft torque at the time. Held the steering wheel in those cars the same as mine. But when I started to drive the GT-R, I realised it was not a car you can drive normally, I had to grip that wheel hard as it sucked up the horizon under acceleration! It bludgeoned it's way through corners and as James said in the video, I didn't get it either until that day. You had to drive it by the scruff of it's neck. Afterwards I thought to myself that if I ever wanted a brutally capable point to point car, to get me somewhere in a hurry no matter the conditions, I'd get a GT-R.
