      @lunastarwater9856 True, I use a quality drugstore, not just a drugstore. For exapmle L'Oréal everpure(bond repair shampoo and conditioner, and color caring leave in) kristin ess(clarifyingshampoo), ogx oils(coconut and argan), and for skin is cera ve (cream to foam cleanser, daily lotion and healing ointment) and vaseline(cocoa lip therapy.) If you are for some reason wondering, I have a dry scalp and skin.
      Edit: Also keep on mind diets take a huge role in skin and hair/scalp health, I'm not on a strict diet, but the diet I follow keeps me healthy, happy, and balanced.

    Here where I live everyone uses drugstore haircare products, it’s not even a question. Not many people have the money to go after high end products when it comes to cosmetics, and even if they do it’s just easier to go to the drugstore and pick up some shampoo and conditioner. High-end brands simply use more expensive alternatives to what is already available and proven effective at a lower price point in drugstore brands whilst turning up the free-from natural claims to the max to fit their marketing. So unless they come up with some original innovative ingredient like in Olaplex and change the way people do things high-end brands are not worth it.

Someone using Pantene or herbal essences hair will disintegrate right before my eyes but someone using better quality shampoo/conditioner will hold up 10x better. I don’t even have to ask my client when they are using I’ll be able to tell once that foil is pulled. I don’t recommend using drug store shampoo. Over high end.. @@SB-ny1pr live and learn? For whom exactly? I realize that no one was forcing me to buy products, but she was giving completely different information than she’s giving right now. That’s the problem that I have, is the complete 180. I’m going through breast cancer treatment and trying to save my waist length damaged hair. She claimed the only way to do that was with high-end products and pH balanced products. She claimed that only the high end products had proper pH. And said to stay away from drugstore products, if you were trying to heal your hair. Along with of course other advice, such as soft, scrunchies, pillowcases, hair oil, etc. she claimed that she healed her own hair from damage and breakage with these high end products. Now she is saying the exact opposite about drugstore brands and saying Pantene has essentially the same ingredients as like pureology for example. In essence, changing her entire hair history? I get why you’re trying to defend her, because you’re a fan and you love her. But I’m not attacking her. I have been a fan too, and I’ve watched all of her videos for over a year and I’m allowed to be disappointed and confused at the contradiction in advice. I’m financially strapped from medical bills… now I’m wondering if I wasted my money on expensive hair care for no reason. Can you possibly understand where I’m coming from? Like quite a lot of people on this and her other post, we are wondering the same thing. She’s here to give advice specifically on hair care… all we expect is honesty, integrity, and accountability. That’s not too much to ask. Especially when dealing with influencers who make money off of this. And thanks for singling me out when a ton of other people are confused as much as I am. Especially since this is far from how she was explaining dupes before. She specifically explained in prior posts that the dupes aren’t nearly as good and never will be as the top line products. Anyway, Please try to understand where someone is coming from and what they’re saying before you just assume their intent is to attack and your immediate reaction is to defend and attack back no matter what the situation is. ❤️ Peace to you, honestly. I just lost my breasts, I don’t need the stress. So I hope I explained that well enough and this is squashed. Lol

      @@vanbriannemodel First let me say I am so sorry for all you have been through and pray that you’re cancer free now. I’m sorry you were offended by my response which I really didn’t intend for it to be an attack in any way. I’m not defending her just because I like her. I feel like at the time she made those claims they were her beliefs and her experience with the brands that helped her. She did say they were expensive but for her worth it because she only washes her hair like once a week. Everyone’s hair is different and unfortunately not everyone will have the same experience with a particular brand. Again, this is not to attack but she does always put a disclaimer that she is not a professional and that these are her opinions. She posted a video not too long ago addressing how since she’s taking a trichology class she has learned more and that is why she has changed her views. The hair care industry and beauty industry has made claims about “clean cosmetics” and how sulfates are bad for our hair and silicones and I’ve seen multiple RUclipsrs, not just influencers but estheticians and dermatologists, who say that sulfates aren’t bad and there really is no definition of clean beauty so what one brand claims is clean can be different from what another brand claims is clean. I guess what I’m trying to say is with science we’re always learning new things and even professionals and doctors find that after new studies they realize there are sometimes better treatments or they don’t recommend a product they used to. I’m really sorry that you spent a lot of money on products, especially if they didn’t work for you. I do hear a lot of good things about Pureology and I know it’s pricey because my daughter uses it. Abbey did do a dupe video for Pureology with the Kirkland brand moisture shampoo and conditioner, but she did show that it wasn’t exactly the same and Kirkland had some things Pureology didn’t and Vice Versa. I don’t think she said Pantene is a dupe but she did say for a while they got a bad rap because that’s when everything about sulfates and silicones had come out as being bad and Pantene contained them, but now they’ve learned that they’re not all bad. I hope that maybe explained things a little better and again I apologize if you thought my first response was an attack, I really didn’t intend it to be. I sincerely hope you’re ok and wish you the best with your recovery and your hair care journey.

    I don’t understand then why you urged us a year ago to purchase shampoo and conditioner from companies like Pureology, which I did and cost me $70. All because you said back then that the pH of the shampoo and conditioner was absolutely the most important thing you can do for your hair, and that the high end products are the only ones that have proper pH levels. Now you never mention pH and are basically saying that these cheap drugstore brands are almost as good and make your hair look beautiful, when you claimed that you got your hair to where it is today by using products that have ingredients that drugstore brands don’t possess along with changing some of the ways that you treat your hair such as soft scrunchies, no high ponytails, etc etc. i’ve watched all of your videos for over a year now in an attempt to heal my waist length damaged hair, and your recent videos completely contradict your previous advice and explanation as to how your hair is as healthy as it is compared to what it was. I’m sorry, but this is incredibly frustrating and I’m just confused and baffled. I’m in the middle of breast cancer treatment and struggling financially with medical costs and attempting to still save my hair and now I’m wondering if the couple hundred I spent on hair care per your suggestions was never necessary? And if so, then how did you heal your hair from the photos you show from years ago to how beautiful it is now? Because in this current video, you’re showing how beautiful a five dollar shampoo has made your hair. I hope you and others are able to understand why I’m a little upset and frustrated?

    • @jjayjae_
      @jjayjae_ Год назад +6

      She’s studying to be a trichologist now, and I think this is why her views on many things have changed; she just has new information that she didn’t have before. There is one category where more expensive brands were succeeding, and that’s bond builders. Those are the products that helped her hair recover from the bleach, and it wasn’t until recently that there were bond builders available in the drugstore. So combine her new knowledge with all of the innovations we’re seeing in drugstore haircare lines, and you get the basis for this video.

    • @vanbriannemodel
      @vanbriannemodel Год назад +1

      @@jjayjae_ That’s not exactly the issue for me. The issue of “clean beauty”, sulfates, and silicones, etc she has always given the same advice on, the same advice as scientists in the industry. I hold no issue with that. And the products that damaged my hair were the “dupes” that she was suggesting such as the OGX coconut oil, and the L’Oreal shampoo and conditioner she suggested, etc. Actually Pureology was doing nice things for my hair but I also took that suggestion from a chemist. However, she always warned that these cheap alternatives were not exact dupes, and if you really wanted truly healthy hair, you had to buy top line products. Which is what she claimed healed her own hair. My issue is that she used to agree with professionals and scientists in the industry who said that top line brands have better and more beneficial ingredients. She said that pH was THE most important thing in hair care. She hasn’t spoken about pH in quite a long time. And I take issue with her not doing videos explaining why such a sudden change in what she claimed was proven scientific fact. Now she’s not even calling brands like Pantene dupes. She’s claiming they are basically as good for your hair as top line products. Which wreaks of sponsorship to me because she’s holding every single shampoo and conditioner that Pantene produces and showing us that it has all the exact same ingredients as the top line brands. Maybe Pantene isn’t a terrible brand and it’s ok for some people? But how can she just erase what she claims is her own hair history, and what healed her own hair? She used to claim that brands like Pantene were one of the reasons her hair was damaged in the first place (as well as other general bad hair treatment), thus switched to top line and ta da! Beautiful hair! That’s my issue, the complete turnaround that she’s done is the reason that she was the last influencer that I even watch on RUclips. I’m afraid I’m just done with influencers. I’ve switched to all beauty chemists, dermatologists, etc. I don’t trust influencers. I work in the entertainment industry, and I know too much about how it functions. They make their living by promoting brands (the ads during their videos don’t pay anything). In order to make a living (which she does) by solely YouTubing, you have to endorse. And I’m just no longer interested in not being able to trust an influencers suggestions while having no idea which opinions are biased. And I think the age of the influencer is on its way out, because professionals have started their own channels, and are calling influencers out. So she’s smart to be studying for a degree (which I knew, and don’t understand why people keep pointing out to me since I’m watching all her videos too). However she’s still making her living off of endorsements. There is a learning curve for people like her without degrees, and perhaps she’s learned more. However she can’t claim to change her own personal hair history, and journey. And I’ve tried several “dupes” she’s recommended that caused a further 3 inches of breakage and damage to my waist length hair. I chopped it up to people’s hair being different. But at this point I really can’t afford anymore damage in my situation (currently fighting breast cancer) while she’s learning, or I’ll lose my hair completely, especially when I can watch a scientist who already knows the answers without having to google the ingredients list. I’m very happy if she is helping you and others in their hair journey, but from my own personal experience, and her recent videos, I’m just not on board anymore, and I’ve seen quite a few others with the same concerns. It also concerns me that a ton of women take what these influencers suggest as gospel, especially when very often a year later, whoops, that info was WAY off, or again, they are unaware it’s just a paid sponsorship. But it’s all good, to each their own, 😉. It’s no worries all around, she has plenty of followers and likely doesn’t even know or care about little ol’ me or my concerns, or whether I go. Haha. I understand from personal experience that once you get up into the 5 to 10 thousand digits or so range of fans you don’t notice nor care when some leave, more will follow. MY fans aren’t following me for advice or healthcare though. Thank God 🤣. As far as my Cancer journey, unfortunately I’m having bad complications since my Mastectomy which has been incredibly difficult, and at this point I’m just trying to survive it. A lot of people might think that my hair concerns are ridiculous in the face of Cancer or that I’m overreacting to her posts… but when you’ve been a professional career Model most of your life with waist length hair (relying on your looks essentially to make a living), losing your breasts is bad enough, and now I’m desperately trying to hold onto my hair. I literally can’t afford even the slightest possibility of bad hair advice right now, any more damage could quite literally push me over the edge, as I’m barely hanging on. A five dollar bottle of shampoo could ruin me, lol. I guess everything is a matter of perspective. 😊 So, no. I’m not going to rush right out to excitedly purchase Pantene like many women on here are doing as we speak 🤣.
      All the best to you in life and in your own hair journey my friend!

      @@vanbriannemodel you keep repeating this everywhere. When people learn and have new knowledge and experiences, they will change what they’ve said. That’s how life works. End of the day you have to find the products that work for your hair type. No one told you to buy this or that and no one promised you results. It’s trial and error along with understanding your hair type, needs, goals, etc. She said what worked for HER hair, you copied and didn’t get the same results now you’re mad. You have health issues so that will affect your hair. You can’t expect the same results as anyone else. There is a difference between drugstore and salon quality hair products. I’ve used both and only the high end made my hair look and feel good.

      @@Aphrodite01 I am so sorry to have offended you. It was not my intention at all, however, I just finished having a mastectomy, and in the middle of complications, and on heavy medication, regiment and treatments. It’s very difficult for me to think and process at the moment so conversations are very difficult for me thus I copy and paste a lot. I know that might be hard to understand, and I’m sorry. At the same time I have a different perspective from you and I started her hair treatments and suggestions before my cancer diagnosis, thus I’m not sure you understood what I was saying in my responses. I understand that different things work for different people, which I also stated in my responses. My issue is with her doing a 180 and not explaining it in a video about why she no longer believes in PH or her other perspectives. This is simply my opinion and you do not have to possess it. I have already moved on and people keep responding to me because they are upset and are fans of hers so people naturally defend her. I have also followed her for a year and a half. I’m very happy that she’s helping you, this just isn’t working for me and that’s OK too. But I do have every right to question influencers, and ask about their advice and perspectives especially if they change so significantly.
      I also cannot risk further damage to my hair as It’s hanging on by a thread, bald spot included. I’m not sure if many women on here understand what that’s like, and I do feel like I’m being attacked for simply stating that I’m confused and upset. I did it non aggressively, I did not attack her, and I’ve had civil conversations with others, who share the same opinion, but then people such as yourself thinking that I’m attacking her, and coming at me (perhaps it’s not what you intended) I just don’t share your view in regards to this matter. She’s here specifically to give hair advice and she’s admitted to giving bad hair advice in the past which is appreciated. I’ve just switched to watching professionals instead of influencers. It’s all good. I’m having an immensely difficult time at the moment and would appreciate if we could just move on and go our separate ways. I’m terrified of losing my breasts and now my hair, i honesty don’t need the stress of people yelling at me on RUclips because I politely questioned and/or disagreed with an influencer. My apologies once again for the misunderstanding and I hope you have a wonderful day!

    I really hate when hair stylist/others think they know everything...🙄 How about: everyone is different? I've been using sulfates for at least 35 years, and my stylist always goes on to compliment how healthy my hair and scalp is. Saying that sulfates are "bad" is disingenuous. Not everyone's hair will react the same.

      I use those and prefer them over drugstore. Use what works for your hair type. Stick to what works don’t change it to something that may ruin your hair.

    I think it depends on the hair type. Low porosity hair seems to benefit more from clean ingredients or natural products. I have low porosity hair and i once used Loreal fall resist conditioner. This left a waxy residue on my hair though it made it more manageable and less tangly.

  • @21hairgirl

    Actually sulfates are bad for your hair (overtime). They are very drying to the hair and scalp. They can cause scalp irritation. Sulfates make my scalp very itchy. I have been sulfate free for many years. I’m a licensed cosmetologist.

    Are you a licensed hairstylist??
    If not, please stop giving hair advice to people. It's not just the silicone and plastics in hair care products as to why we advice people not to use drugstore brands.
    Who is the one that's cheering you on for your upcoming job interview and you want your hair to look good?
    Going through a rough breakup and needing some encouragement and want to look your best?
    Are you expecting a child and maybe nervous?
    That's right, Amazon, Walmart, Dollar General, etc. isn't going to do any of those things for you. But a stylist will🙂 When you buy hair products from a salon/stylist, you're supporting a local business and helping them out. Not all of them are money hungry people. We have bills to pay and months to feed also.

    NOT TRUTH. For her straight hair is gonna be ok or just ok to use sulfate shampoo, she might not see or feel ir for some months maybe but definently is not scientifically healthy for hair, sulfate kills my natural hair, if she's in for a blowout or just brushing straight hair it won't be that noticeable, maybe a deep mask a few times gonna do the trick but is absolutely unnecessary damage.
    Also, the fake wax stuff she's referring to is SILICONES and it's literal make up for hair, it will fill out the cuticle till the next wash day instead of a protein that will strenghten it, but it eventually break and damage most types of hair on the long term.
    I have hips length natural hair and is ALL about the details and research, not short term but long term,
    Generalizing that drugstore is all bad is a LIE but don't mislead people.
    Actually, thr must important thing is to know what KIND of shampoo your hair needs at the time: hydrating, treatment, chelating or moisturizing, it comes in any price !
