I did the same, and found 1 small villange and 2 big village. I connect it with a railways that span over 2500 blocks. But after that i stop it. Because its hard to maintain it.

It could be functional, for example with the new 1.7 / 1.8 mountains, it would be an easy addition to a community base / city / public area. You may connect it to different places! Ideas: Underground - This is like the London Underground. Goes around the city, different locations Tram - This links around the city and is on top, not under. Mountain Railway - This goes to high areas. Underground Railway - This would go somewhere underground. Other city / countryside / protected forest Railway - It would lead to the countryside and would be like an attraction, or a slightly used but practical transport method.
this is how my worls is based around, my main rails are undegound and my rails that distribute to the station on the ground and the attraction lines are scenic routes as well,

I started playing my old creative save-file, and now I’m digging/building my own underground railway system twisting through caves and tunnels I dug. It branches off in several places, so it’s slowly growing and getting more complex.
There are some that are powered by torch, but as for the other rail, there's a glitch in minecraft which allows you to power the power rail without the torch. There are several YT vids out there that explain the glitch pretty well, if you're interested in replicating it.
I have also made a rail system in a flat world. Don't laugh at me l have created my own mountains and buildings and the tracks don't go straight. There are the three routes in my rail system. One consist of 3 stations, one with 4 stations and the other one with 6 stations. The last route with 6 stations is the longest it takes about 20 minutes from the first station to the last and it has tunnels, Caves and my own created cities. I have also created some metros too in those cities which consist of 11 + stations. But those stations are close to each other.
I still don't understand how to make the powered rail 😭 like do I need to use redstone apart from the rail to activate it? Or just a torch will activate it? I'm new. Nobody explains how to do that! 🤦🏻♀️ Besides that, nice work!
favorite part is around 8:55 going through the dense forest with the tunnel cut through the foliage. sooo satisfying. this is incredible, i plan on doing something similar in my world! i have about 5 bases, most are 2000-3000 blocks apart from each other.... furthest away (perched cliffside over a river cutting through a rainforest biome, with a lush cave biome directly below it) is about 8000 blocks from my home base and where i spawned into the world. traveling between them all is a major chore even with flying. i still somehow manage to get lost even with coordinates lol. a rail system would be a lifesaver. thanks so much for the inspo!! edit: ok 13:20 going through the rainforest is even more stunning than the regular forest!

Over the last year or so I've created my world and done a huge minecart rail system on ground , underground and raised areas over the whole world as well . Very satisfying but unfortunately the only videos I can upload are from my phone so quality isn't 100% but it's still turned out pretty well . Longest for my video is 8:15 . Keep up the great work 👍
My longest rail streaches 27,772 blocks long. I use it to get to my most useful biomes, 4 64x64 mines, and 12 or so farms. Also I keep my pyramid in a dessert which is 2860 blocks away

Unfortunately, this seems to be the Legacy Console Edition, which had faster minecarts. For Minecraft Java Edition, there are mods to get faster minecarts that you can download
Put this up in a secondary monitor with RainyMood in the background and you have the perfect relaxing background for programming. Can you please make a 2-3 hours long one as well? (Just loop around the track of course, no need to build it).
I'm also building a long rail (not as long as this but I'm building it from my house to my Nether portal which is roughly 4000 blocks away). How do you keep mobs 9ff the tracks? I'm thinking maybe a wall? But will this be effective? I'm worried about creepers blowing it up

How do you power the rails without the torch?

A redstone torch next to a powered rail will make it functional. It looks like the poster is using redstone blocks underneath them.
