      Yeah, they call themselves nice so often, they forget that 1. Being nice is the bare minimum of being a decent human being. 2. Nice isn't special or amazing, because it is the bare minimum, nice is a given. What other qualities do they have besides being nice? Anything? 3. They aren't actually nice. "I am SO NICE" screams the man while calling the woman he wants to date a b-word to her face because she dares to want to plan a date on a different day than he wanted. "I AM NICE ACTUALLY" says the guy saying all women are slnts for not wanting to date him. So nice.

    • @awfuldynne
      @awfuldynne 4 месяца назад +34

      @@AnnekeOosterink I'm wondering if they're consciously lying when they call themselves "nice"-as if women won't spot that their actions don't match their words-or if they think only requiring a whiff of inconvenience before lashing out with verbal abuse is normal and/or acceptable, and therefore doesn't contradict their claim to be "nice".
      It could also be the double standards of the entitled: "I was nice to you (showed you basic civility*) but you weren't nice to me (giving me everything I wanted) so obviously the social contract is BULL$H!T"
      *several of them don't successfully demonstrate this level of "nice" while they're ostensibly attempting to charm someone.

    • @justacoginthefkery
      @justacoginthefkery 3 месяца назад +16

      I used that even before the date. If a guy asked to meet within the first few days, I would tell them no & I wasn't ready for that yet. Same with asking for extra pics. 99% of men can't respect the simple no & immediately showed they weren't the right person. If they made it past that, they'd get my number so we could move to live conversation. I only met with 6 matches, but did land a very healthy relationship.

The whole point of the chatting stage is to VET to see if they're potentially worth meeting. Proper vetting takes time & patience. When I did start out the way everyone else does things, it was messy af & I can see why ppl have so many problems zipping through countless dates with all the wrong ppl. I also figured out that if they are the wrong person, things can fizzle or blow up quickly whether you meet them or not.

    Gods, this reminds me of a match I had on Bumble. We had some good chemistry and conversation--but then the dude thought it "wouldn't work out" because I thought that hugging should not be forced, especially for kids and adults with sensory issues, that it should be encouraged but not an expectation. (I am autistic, and we were talking about our values). He basically said forced hugs or the expectation of hugs and if you don't hug it is offensive was key to his culture...and like, hugging is fine and I think it's great people are affectionate, but a lack of boundaries IS NOT OKAY. EVER. If someone gets offended because I don't want to hug them, that's not a me problem.
    Dude also thought I was "obsessed" when I asked him why he thought that was okay to force people to hug and he wouldn't answer. I tried asking for maybe 5 min, in 2-3 different ways, and said I needed to know why to understand talk with him. (Again, I am autistic, lol--of course I need the WHY, and I wanted to work it out.)
    This was also after I told him "no, not everyone is neurodivergent in our age group" after he said everyone was, when I told him I am neurodivergent.
    Red flags tbh....HE STILL WANTED TO BE FRIENDS and I said I didn't feel comfortable and cut off any chats with him.
    I also don't have a bumble anymore, thank goodness.

    Yeah, my ex-husband was a "nice guy." I would be so apologetic and think "poor [ex], he doesn't deserve me" because my family was abusive and he had to interact with them too.
    Never mind that I had lived in that family for 19 years. Never mind that he never had to live with them. Never mind that he made me feel like a s*** human being by being born into a family that I couldn't help being born into, and he asked and chose to marry me. Never mind that he compared me to other people to try to make me jealous.
    Never mind that he threatened to take my car keys and leave me stranded at home because he "didn't like surprises" and I had surprised him by spending 5 hours making his favorite dinner and dessert for his birthday. Never mind that every single problem I had with my abusive family and poor mental health, I felt guilty that he'd have to be exposed to a fraction of the trauma I was going through (which for him was an inconvenience). Never mind that I never once thought of myself through this whole time because I was too busy saying "poor [ex]."
    He had the audacity to believe that I was created by God specifically to serve him. He literally made me tie his shoelaces...and he thought he was a "nice guy."

    Honestly glad you called out the fetishization of asian people.
    I think the reason so many people do it, especially white women, is because of the over-feminization of Asia, alongside the trauma and violence we are shown that is committed by white men, and the lack of history known about crimes men of all races have done--especially in the US. So people think Asian men, or other minority men, are the safe option, when in reality anyone can be dangerous or safe and it depends on the individual. Which can be scary to think about--that ANYONE could abuse you. But on the flip side, anyone can be kind too.
    I know I fell into the trap of thinking non-white men would ALWAYS be safer, but had to reconcile that that was just not true, especially after my abuse from some POC men, and that anyone could hurt me, so there was no "for sure method" to avoid abusers other than looking for red flags. It was scary to admit that anyone is capable of abuse and you never really are 100% safe from it (especially if you are disabled), but I'm glad I did and I got past that thinking so I can actually protect myself and not brush off red flags.
    Hope this makes sense. I'm not trying to brag or anything, just glad I grew the fuck up and that I am better at spotting red flags than I used to be.

    gosh the men not reading dating app bios is sooo true,, literally my first sentence is "i am asexual, i want a romantic relationship but anything like under the clothes is a no for me" but everytime i match with a guy and we get a nice conversation going, i eventually get dissapointed bc they DID NOT READ and actual do want sex.... i match with a whole lot less women, so i havent had that happen with a woman yet, which makes me think that women do tend to read bios more than men, i know i do.

    • @Ophiichus
      @Ophiichus 2 месяца назад +3

      Finding a partner on any dating app as an asexual will be a monument of a task for sure. Dating apps are so closely tied to hook up culture that it has ruined the whole point of the dating app. I am personally a demisexual and that wound up weeding out a lot of people on its own with the whole "I will not even be interested so don’t try it until I say otherwise." I wound up talking casually with my current partner for a year before we even met up in person. He is a lovely man and respects my autonomy however I need.
      Women do read through profiles more often, I feel like if you’re wanting to try pursuing a woman to lean towards apps geared towards it. I feel like a lot of women get pushed off of the bigger apps because they are also tired of how over geared they are for fast hookups. (This might also double for men, if you try to focus on lesser known apps)

    Yet once they get into this dating mindset, suddenly, all bets are off and they don‘t have a conversation of genuine mutual respect anymore - they follow a script.
    They think they pay, women are mandatorily grateful, they get to be charming and women have to be charmed. Once you put a single toe out of line, you are immediately punished with verbal abuse (or worse) for breaking the carefully set up rules and your ideologically constructed character, an ideal of a woman that shows the right degree of submission, admiration and, somehow, flirtatiousness. You *don‘t* get to be you in this script, you have a role to fulfil and if you don‘t, you‘ll be „put in your place“ reaaal fast.
    If that‘s not dehumanization, I don‘t know what is.

    I'm in a long term relationship of 8 years and hearing stuff like this reminds me how important it is to always not verbally abuse my partner just in case some sly guy manages to sweep them off their feet with a tip of their fedora.

    You would think you would wait until after you'd done the group project to ask someone out anyway bc that interaction is going to make it super awkward when they have to like meet and do work.

    As a pansexual trans man who transitioned as an adult, I concur with the “men have bad dating profiles thing” but it’s especially straight men. Since I’ve transitioned and put “man” for my gender in dating apps, the other men’s profiles have been so much better. But the women’s profiles have gotten worse. I think it’s just a problem with the straights tbh

    I also don’t get why “niceguys” have to act like there’s only one preference option either. Using the example from the video, I typically find the buff macho muscle guy super unattractive HOWEVER Jason mamoa is hot to me because he also seems really funny and chill. The vibe of the person means so much more than just the physical appearance.

    My life experience showed me that there is also the covert nice guy. The one who will treat you nicely and respect you, even when romantic interest is not present, but only until you set up a boundary or say "no" to something. It can be a family member, a colleague or a coworker. Usually is a man with a fragile ego that is always wondering what benefits he can take from you or your presence. What differentiate this one from just being a general jerk is that this behavior only applies towards women.

  • @Andrew-qw1kq
    @Andrew-qw1kq 4 месяца назад +2

    The consistent element with nice guys is that they don't actually see women as people.
    Talk yourself up early will usually filter them out pretty quickly. Just open with "fuck I'm good" and watch what happens.

    The thing about men’s profiles on dating apps is so real like I’m not attracted to men so I have them turned off on dating apps, but sometimes they slip through the cracks, and one time a guy commented on my voice prompt (which was me playing my kalimba) saying ‘never touch an instrument again’?? Like I don’t get it do you think I’m gonna see that and be like ‘omg this guys so attractive’

    Watching these videos is always such a pleasure. I simply love her reactions to the outrageous posts, just sort of mind blown and double take energy that makes me laugh every time, then how she pivots to a more serious one on one talk with the offender to not only let him know that he needs to get help, but also gives the no nonsense reasons for why he needs help. I've been the same way for so long and it feels so vindicating to see somebody else seeing things the same way I am. Plus, I get hit in the feels at the end when she puts up the dog picture and plays the excerpt from Monsters and Fairies. I love all of her music and listen to it more than I should if I were to be fully productive, but that song is my favorite, and one of my overall favorites.
